You may remember a couple night ago, I attempted the new “Snobby Joes” recipe I found from the fabulous Fitnessista. Well, can I just tell you that they are 100 times better the second time around! The flavors were unbelievably tasty, and the lentils even seemed to soften up a bit, which I was super happy about.
“Ain’t no knockin’ ‘Snobby Seconds'” with these babies. ;)
Also had some of the Best.Chips.EVER. – Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato chips.
Also making an appearance, my other lover, Chobani.
All rounded out with a little dessert to finish off the meal.
It’s ok to have 5 of these in one sitting, right? Oh, no? Darn…
Zumba Recap
Ok, so as I mentioned earlier, this morning was my first Zumba experience.
Zuuuuumbaaaaaa!!
Well, to be honest, I think the people in the picture look like they’re having more fun than I did…
I don’t know, but I was actually kind of disappointed with my first Zumba experience. I mean, the instructor was pretty upbeat and nice, but she kept going around and almost, dare I say, grinding, with the other class members!?! Excuse me, but I’m here to dance in my own personal bubble, thank you.
A lot of the time, there really didn’t seem to be much of a “routine” so to say – occasionally the instructor would get a beat going, and we’d all finally be able to catch on. But other than that, it almost seemed like 70% of it was just a free-for-all dance party? And on top of that, I barely broke a sweat?
Is that normal?
Maybe I was going about it all wrong — I mean, I feel like anyone I’ve talked to before said they left dripping with sweat and loving it. But I know I tried to put 100% into the entire class…despite watching the clock consistently for the last half hour…
I’m a girl who likes some structure in my group exercise workouts. Tell me what to do, where to step, how high to lift, when to crunch – whatever it is, I want direction. Thank you, BodyPump for that. :)
So despite the less-than-fabulous experience with Zumba, I’m still glad that I tried it. Will I be back? I don’t know, maybe. I guess I’d be willing to give it a go again, maybe with a different instructor and a gym buddy so I can compare instructors and have someone to laugh with?
In order to try to get a little more out of today’s workout, I hopped on the StairMaster for 20 minutes after class, which had my breaking a sweat in no time. ;)
Question for the Afternoon:
Have you ever had a workout experience turn out to be less than what you expected?

Thank you for sharing a out Zumba. I haven’t tried it but I’m a lil dismayed that it wasn’t a great workout. I took a pilates class at a different gym once and felt no results whatsoever. Boo!

I seriously must try those snobby joes. They looks so darn good. Love the “bubble” comment. Too funny b/c that’s exactly how I’d feel about the situation. I’ll be curious to read comments from others who have done Zumba.
Lisa (I'm an Okie) says
You arent the only one. I didnt like Zumba either.
Karen says
I think it depends on the instructor…they offer Zumba Mon and Wed at my gym and on Mon I feel like I don’t break a sweat but I love the Wed class. On that note I also go to some spin classes at my gym and some are MUCH better than others! I hate leaving a group exercise class feeling like I didn’t really work it, kind of a waste of time!

Sorry you didn’t like zumba! I do it for fun sometimes but honestly it isn’t a killer workout from my experience, and sometimes I feel like I’m just flailing about!
Courtney @ Three Months says
Oh that stinks about your Zumba experience. You should definitely try a different instructor – it really can be fun as well as a great workout!

Courtney!
You know Elisha Krafchin works for Food Should Taste Good! You should get in touch with her on facebook and chat…she sometimes sends us new chips to try in the mail! :)
Courtney says
Oooo FUN! Thanks, Danielle! :)

Not to sound like a snob but I never really thought Zumba looked like a stellar workout. I don’t mean that rudely but for me I just never thought it would do the trick.
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I think I’m with ya on that one!

i’ve always wondered about zumba….my friend goes to a class and the way she described it and the moves she showed me reminded me of the “african raindance” from the movie can’t buy me love…you know when dr. mcdreamy was a youngin’….hahahaha.
Kara @ MyWellnest says
I think it depends on the instructor and maybe the class level. I went to a Zumba class for awhile and we never really “got going”, and like you I need choreography and instructions! However, I took another Zumba class with a different instructor and it was a great work out and we never stopped moving.

I’m the same with zumba. I love powerpump so much more. Its quite boring to me. Can’t wait to try the snobby joes they look yummy!!
Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices says
I have to try those chips- I have been seeing them ALL over the blog world lately. & they look so good as well. Double plus!!
Bummer about Zumba..I’ve never been- but have heard similar stuff- ie the “dance party” & i’m not really into that either..sounds kind of odd. But who knows- maybe it is the instructor..?
I think organized group classes are way better.
Fervent Foodie says
You should try another instructor… zumba can be really fun, but you definitely need the right person leading the class. There’s a very thin line between fun zumba and cheesy 80’s workout videos… :)
Jen says
I felt the same way about Zumba. I didn’t even break a sweat when I took it! I guess I just need a more challenging workout!
Lindsay says
Courtney, Please try another Zumba instructor. Some instructors are very organized and give you directions. I have been to quite a few classes and have found about 3 teachers that really help me sweat while having a great time. I hope that you give it another try. But if not, then I hope you continue doing other classes that catch your fancy!! :)

I’m obsessed with those sweet potato chips!! So good! And so hard not to eat the ENTIRE bag! ha :)
