Change of Plans

Well, after all my excitement for 5:00 to come yesterday, it turns out there was a change of plans. Jay got home a little late, we got some discouraging news from the IRS (aka, expected money not coming…), and then, our TV blew up…

Not exactly how I was planning on spending my evening, to say the least.

The two of us actually spent a good twenty minutes sulking around about our bad luck. Really, you should have stopped over…we would have been a blast.

But then after looking at the big picture, I decided it was time to snap out of it. I mean, really; things could be a whole lot worse, right?

Right! So, as my dad would always say, I “turned my frown upside-down” and got to work on making some dinner. Let me tell ya…it was definitely an upgrade from Wednesday night’s dinner.

For the two of us, I first cooked two Italian-style chicken sausages and 1+ cup of brown rice. Next, I sautéed some green and red pepper, onions, garlic, and diced tomatoes in a little of their own juice, along with some Ken’s Lite Northern Italian dressing.

Once they were cooked up (about 5 minutes) I added in the sliced chicken sausage and rice and let them cook through together, about 3-5 more minutes. It was quick, super easy, and honestly, a lot better than I anticipated!

We enjoyed our dinner outside on the patio, and ended up having a really nice time just chatting away. Not to mention, I think we were both a little happier with some good food in our bellies. Food always makes me happy. Smile

After dinner, we headed out to Redbox and picked up No Strings Attached, which was pretty cute. I think it may have been the only movie I’ve seen Natalie Portman in since I saw Black Swan, and I had a really hard time not thinking of her as that character. Talk about a versatile actress!

This morning, I got up and tackled my run early. I knew that if I spent more than five minutes lounging around, it would be that much harder to get up and get movin’. So I got up, and I did it.

(Another creeper spotting!)

Considering I felt like I was in a twister half the time while running, I was pretty happy with my results. Actually, I’ll be honest…it was really just a little windy. I’m just dramatic like that.

After a good 10 minutes of stretching, I got myself some breakfast…starting with the usual. Iced coffee with skim milk and a Truvia,

which proceeded to spill all over my pretty placement as I bumped into the table. I can be such a klutz. Confused smile

Ohhh man, today IS Friday the 13th, isn’t it! Yikes…

Ahh, no big deal. Breakfast made up for it.

A lightly toasted Thomas’ Bagel Thin with almond butter, banana slices, chia seeds, honey, and cinnamon. And of course, a little extra ‘naner on the side with more almond butter.

I don’t know how I got off this kick, but it had been way too long. Its return is happily welcomed. Smile

Question for the Morning:

Are you superstitious? If so, what superstitions do you have?

I’ve definitely been known to be superstitious. When I play softball, I can’t step on the chalked lines, and I have a particular way to get ready in the batter’s box. When I played volleyball, I had a special routine that I had to do every time before I served the ball.

I dont have any superstitions but my sister has a weird thing about knives and scissors! She refuses to directly hand either to someone because doing so will apparently cause the 2 of them to fight :-s!

I am not usually supersitious. I tend to be a pessimist by nature so I always seem to be expecting bad things. My mom is trying to change my thinking because she says what you get back is what you put out there. So if you are always expecting bad things then bad things will come. But if you expect good things then good things will come. It sounds simple but for someone like me it is difficult!

I’m not really superstitious. I guess none of the superstitions have ended up being true, so I can’t hold them accountable!

I loved No Strings Attached. But that may be because I love Natalie Portman and could not stop laughing during that movie! Is it me or is she EVERYWHERE lately?

And there’s seriously nothing better than food to change a bad mood. Plus just looking at Cody’s face must make you guys happy :)

No fair having bad news ruin your plans! Glad you made lemonade with your lemons, so to speak!

I used to be more superstitious when I was running in high school. For instance, I had to have a good luck note from my boyfriend in my right racing shoe whenever I ran. And I had to wear a certain sports bra and have the same lunch on race days. I also try to avoid black cats, broken mirrors, and walking underneath ladders. I know it probably doesn’t make a difference, but it can’t hurt, right?

Food always makes me feel better too, Courtney! Isn’t it amazing what a full belly can do to your mood?!

I’m not really superstitious, but I always do get a little nervous on Friday the 13th haha… hopefully today will be smooth sailing!

I don’t know if it’s superstition but I always have to put my right shoe on first and I walk like I’m still in marching band even though it’s been over 10 years. Heel to toe, backwards on tip toes and shoulders always back.

Oh and I have favorite racing outfits. I always wear the same thing.

I love creeper cody! I’m always cropping the fritz out of my progress pics, although sometimes they still get sent to my coach with a “excuse my nosey cat” disclosure!

I’m sorry your evening didn’t go so well! Dinner outside on a patio will always do the trick!
I don’t think I’m superstitious…13 is my hubby’s favorite number, so I like to think today would be a lucky day :)

  9. Whitney says

the only superstition that I have is if a black cat runs across the run when I’m driving I have to tear a piece of paper. My mother does this and I got it from her…….not sure why LOL :)

I dont have any superstitions about friday 13th, but when it comes to running in races I do. I have to wear pink. Weird I know haha
Although today really isn’t my day (found out my ex has a new gf, and she is going out of town together with our son..not too happy)
but maybe I need to turn my frown upside down too—it could be worse?? …right?….haha

eek i was born on friday the 13th, and i think that’s why i’m not very superstitious! i’m sorry about your night yesterday, i wrote a post about it a couple weeks ago because it seems like “when it rains, it pours!” as far as crappy things all happening at once! i hope you have a great weekend though!

Aw shucks, that’s a lot of crappy stuff :( Are you sure Friday the 13th didn’t come early at your house?

And, I have a volleyball serve superstition too! Beach volleyball season started for us last week so I am reminded of this again because I have to spin the ball in my hands and get all the sand off before I dare to serve!

I’m a little superstitious. I have certain routines that I like to keep the same, in hopes that bad things won’t happen, I guess? At the same time, I try not to think about bad things happening on days like Friday the 13th and when there’s a full moon..I think that (worrying) probably just makes it worse!
