Could Not Have Come At A Better Time

by Courtney on March 5, 2012

Well heyyyyy there! Wooo WEE has it been a long morning. Hope everyone’s day is off to a great start and you’re all recovering from a fantastic weekend. Before anything else, here’s what you may have missed around these parts…

So as I mentioned last night, Jay and I ended up making some last minute changes to our plans, so when it came time for our originally planned dinner, we soon realized that it just wasn’t going to happen. Luckily, we had a few trusty standbys on hand, so we were able to whip a healthy little something up in no time.

I know it doesn’t really look like much, but it tasted pretty darn awesome! Just a simple bowl of spaghetti squash, topped with some jarred garlic marinara sauce, Italian-style chicken sausage, and sautéed peppers and onions.

Jay actually took care of a majority of this dish, and I must say that he is a pretty darn good sauté-er…if that’s even a word? Winking smile

We actually ate our dinner in front of the TV while catching up with Saturday night’s episode of SNL. We were both excited to see Lindsay Lohan’s appearance, especially since we had heard that there was going to be quite a few guest appearances, but neither of us were very impressed. She actually screwed up her lines quite a few times and was constantly looking at the cue cards.

The one skit I found the most funny was the one pictured above, when the three actors sitting down there all started cracking up on set. I absolutely LOVE when that happens! Did anyone else watch and/or see that skit?

This morning, I was up nice and early to head to work and get prepped for my first Tabata class! I was a little nervous, but more excited than anything, really. Unfortunately, I only had two girls in the class (who I happened to grab from the stair climber) and they only stayed for about half of it because one girl said she was getting lightheaded. Bummer.

The class isn’t really being promoted too much right now, since it’s just a soft roll out, but I’m hoping that things pick up sooner than later. I have another class to teach this afternoon, so hopefully I’ll get a few more to come in. We’ll see!

Immediately after class (or should I say, half class) was over, I decided to get in my own workout for the day. Today actually started day 1 of Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp which I’m participating in, so I brought my workout with me and did everything there.

Today’s workout was 20 minutes of steady cardio (I ran on the treadmill) + “Workout A,” which consisted mainly of full-body stability exercises, including lots of use of the Bosu ball. It was great, and it’s so obvious that Tina really put a LOT of hard work into this program of hers.

I was actually just telling Tina the other day that this could not have come at a better time for me; I feel like lately I’ve been putting so much effort into OTHER people’s workouts that I really haven’t had any true goals or reasoning with my own. I’ve just sort of been doing whatever comes to mind that day. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing!

Post-workout, I ate up all of my snacks/breakfast that I brought with me to work: a black cherry Chobani, a piñata apple, and a honey graham Clif Z Bar, which actually turned out to be chocolate chip when I opened it. Odd, right?

Thank goodness I checked the schedule before I left for work this morning and saw that I had two group sessions at 9am & 9:30am; otherwise, I definitely would not have brought all of this and would have been one hungry beast.

Once my group sessions were over, I headed back home, reheated the cold coffee that was waiting for me, and snacked on some cinnamon roast almonds.

Again…these almonds? Sooooo good.

(And yes, I have tried the cocoa ones, but I like these ones WAY better!)

Now, I think it’s about time for a shower…yikes.

Question for the Morning:

Do you usually workout with specific goals in mind (i.e., weight loss, build muscle, increase cardiovascular endurance) or do you just workout to do it?

“bad” not “bady” Bady sounds like a name of a kid on “Teen Mom”.

I usually work out just to work out, but recently I’ve been working on more strength exercises and training for a half… I like having goals! :)

Both, the last two years I worked out to train for races, but also to feel good and to relieve stress. Now that I am taking a break from racing I workout (less) just to feel good!

Right I am working out ith a goal in mind, which is probably why I’m so motivated to do them! Please tell me you crumbled the bar into the yogurt :)

But I sure should have!!

7 Caroline @ After Dinner Dance March 5, 2012 at 11:08 am

I like to have goals when I’m working out – especially with running. I’m doing Tina’s bootcamp too!

Lately I feel like I have been needing more of a plan. For almost 2 years, I have just kinda done whatever I have felt like. Except for my running. I have tried to stick to a plan with that, but since I am not currently training for a race, even that has felt hap hazard lately. I would love to have someone write up a workout plan for me, but I don’t have access to a gym (none in area) and do mostly workout dvds with dumb bells at home or go for a run.

9 Faith @ For the Health of It March 5, 2012 at 11:25 am

Some of my workouts have goals (i.e. increase my speed or tone up my arm muscles) but I’ve never gotten super-specific with those goals. Maybe that would help me get more results-focused!

10 Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers March 5, 2012 at 11:28 am

oh my gosh i TOTALLY agree about the bootcamp coming at the perfect time. i’ve been feeling so “meh” about my workouts and needed a goal!

11 chelcie @ chelcie's food files March 5, 2012 at 11:30 am

I need to try those almonds..especially since you say they are better than the cocoa ones!

Have you tried the cocoa almonds…same brand/container. SO SO good. Usually I workout with some personal goals in mind, but lately I’m training for my RKC so it’s all about getting stronger and working on my kettlebell technique! :)

I go back and forth between working out with a goal vs. working out to workout. Generally, I just like working out and find that I can get somewhat obsessive about goals so I tread carefully.

Wow, you must have really given them a great workout! ;) I hope you have a better turnout this afternoon! If I was there, I’d let you whip me into shape haha!

I really want to try those almonds! They look delicious! :)

I have to agree with you on Lindsay Lohan. I was disappointed. I thought the Real Housewives of Disney skit was kinda funny.

I love the cinnamon almonds!! I eat them everyday, in the 100 calorie pack, for my mid-morning snack. I agree with you abou the chocolate ones – i tried really hard to like them, and they just didn’t do it for me.

17 Kim @ The Family Practice March 5, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Ah bummer they left your class early :( I can only imagine how that feels when you put so much effort into preparing for something, get excited/anxious about it and then it sort of fizzles. I’m sure that it will gain momentum as you keep going :)

18 Katie @ Plates and Paste March 5, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I workout to stay happy and healthy, both mentally and physically. I signed up for my first 5K, which is March 30, so recently I’ve been working out with the goal of running 3 miles without stopping. It’s actually a lot more fun to work out with a goal like that in mind! I’m able to push myself a little harder and am pleased with my training.

I so often don’t really have a goal in mind for my workouts. That’s why I started the Live Fit program a couple months ago because i felt like I needed some direction, a little inspiration and just something new. It’s been awesome for that! :)

Sorry about the class- it will pick up for sure as soon as more people know about it! For the past year and a half I have been working out to gain muscle– I LOVE the switch from being a cardio junkie and super skinny to lifting weights and being strong!

Yay for doing Tina’s bootcamp! I am too :). Sadly though I have to wait til Friday to really do her workouts because that’s when I get my suture removed where I had a mole taken out. I hope your class this afternoon is a success! I would have loved to have been in your tabata class this morning!

I am actually with you on liking the cinnamon almonds better! I actually prefer the sweet and salty nut mixes to the plain old almonds too…hello chocolate peanut butter and cinnamon sugar mixed nuts! what could be better?!?
have you tried the iced oatmeal cookie zbar? I LOVE it semi-warmed up :-) seriously like a cookie!

Yum! Cinnamon almonds sound divine. So does coffee….even cold!

24 Paige @ Running Around Normal March 5, 2012 at 1:31 pm

I can totally relate to your workout comment, Courtney! Sometimes I just end up doing the workouts I’ve designed for a client myself, because I’m so wiped! Or, I’ll just fly by the seat of my pants. But it does get tough to focus on both clients’ workouts and your own with the same amount of passion!

25 Casey March 5, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Don’t get discouraged by low attendance at class, people will start hearing about how kick ass it isand word will spread. I enjoyed finding your blog through Best Body Bootcamp and look forward to reading more!

I didn’t watch that episode of SNL but the best one was when Jimmy Fallon hosted in December. Could not stop laughing! His Boston skit is the best. :-)
