I Squeezed It In

Good news: I managed to squeeze in that workout this morning!

I knew my best chance of ever getting it done was while I was still at the gym this morning and not yet showered for the day. Once I finished up with my group class, I headed straight to the cardio equipment, in my regular work clothes, and busted out a quick, 30-minute workout:

  • 20 minutes HIIT (20 seconds @ 9.0mph / 40 seconds @ 6.0mph)
  • 10 minutes elliptical (alternating forward/backward every 2 minutes)

I tried to really push it with the HIIT since today’s workout had to be quick, and let me tell ya…I worked up quite a sweat! Workouts definitely do NOT have to take up an hour of your day – push yourself and you can have a quick, effective workout in no time.

The one downside to my sudden workout motivation was the fact that I hadn’t exactly planned on the whole sweat factor thing, so I felt a teensy bit bad for the few unfortunate bystanders that may have crossed paths with me while I completed my sweaty, post-workout grocery trip.

Luckily, that was a quick and easy grocery trip so as soon as I got home, I fueled up with a Caramel Peanut Simply Bar, which was leftover from my Blend Retreat swag bag.


The nutrition stats aren’t bad, but the taste wasn’t my favorite. Ahh well.


I’ve got to head back to work this afternoon for a meeting, so I made a quick smoothie bowl for today’s lunch. Doesn’t that lovely, dark green color just make your mouth water? Winking smile


Today’s bowl included:

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 7 strawberries
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 scoop vanilla SunWarrior protein powder
  • 5 drops liquid vanilla stevia
  • 2 handfuls fresh spinach
  • 1/4 tsp xanthan gum
  • 4 ice cubes


I topped the bowl with some cereal and called it lunch…and a delicious one at that!

**FYI: I’ve had many of you asking for some details about my grilled pizzas from last night

I usually just use a store-bought pizza dough (mine was from Price Chopper), let it sit out on the counter for about 30-40 minutes, roll it out (we usually make two because it’s easier when they’re smaller), and then place it directly on the grill grates (*make sure to spray the grates with cooking spray first BEFORE lighting it).

You’re probably not going to get perfectly round/square pizzas because once they hit the grates, that’s usually where they stay, but I’ve never had a problem with the dough falling through the grates – promise! You can also see some more details about how I make/season them in this post.

I JUST tried those Simply Bars this week. I wasn’t a fan of that flavor either but the chocolate pb and lemon ones were pretty good!

I’m guilty of going to the supermarket a sweaty mess after working out, but sometimes you gotta! I love grilled pizza! It’s one of my favorite summer foods.

When I can get back to running definitely going to be trying a few HIIT workouts, been loving the intervals on the elliptical! I’m always that sweaty girl in the store :)

I love green smoothies, even if they look ugly. Ugly foods taste better, its just a fact. I love HIIT, its my favourite style of working out. Its so great that you don’t need to be in the gym for a long time to get in an awesome workout

I’ll be honest… That green smoothie actually DOES make my mouth water. I usually have one once a day but we were away all weekend and I haven’t been food shopping in way too long, so I’m out of almond milk. Need to stock up ASAP!!!

I (sadly) go to the grocery store sweaty all the time… You aren’t the only one! I’ll never forget one time when the cashier pointed out the giant sweat spot on the front of my shirt. She was being complimentary saying she wished she had one too so everyone knew how hard she worked out but I was still a little mortified!

Mine are just whole…I’m too lazy to grind them up, even though I’m sure they’d absorb better :)

Ooh I’ve been wanting to try the Simply Bars. A friend asked for a healthy / safe ingredient bar for protein after workouts and after some research recommended that, but now I’m curious how he ended up liking the taste. I’ll have to investigate myself :)
