So last night, Jay and I did a little weeding in the garden. Actually, Jay did more than I did, but whatever…I got my hands dirty. But those weeds? Ughh…it has gotten bad, my friends. BAD. My goodness those thing can grow at a wicked pace, can’t they?
While we were out at the garden, I happened to be scoping out my tomato plants, and lo and behold…
I had tomatoes! Most where cherry tomatoes, but that bigger one is from my “early girl” plant. I have soooo many other green ones out there right now and it just makes my heart happy.
Needless to say, when there’s fresh tomatoes in the house, they’ve got to be put to good use…so a salad for lunch it was!
Along with my garden tomatoes was also some garden basil, as well as romaine, cucumbers, shredded carrots, avocado, and deli turkey with some Italian dressing. This was one gooooood salad.
For a little sweetness, I also threw a banana SOYJOY bar + a white peach into the mix.
I was going to have a slice of zucchini oatmeal bread, but I ended up caving in to that mid-morning…and I’ll most likely have another one this afternoon.
In other news…I am loving Fifty Shades of Grey. I’m up to about chapter 23 (I think?) and am finding myself totally hooked on the book. I just finished up with one of their email conversations, and for those of you who have read it, did you pay attention to the email subject lines? They are funny.
I will say that there are parts of the book that I don’t love (I always feel sort of awkward for her when she’s in such an, errr, submissive state?), but knowing (well, hearing) that the story gets better in the next two books only makes me want to read more.
I’m hooked.
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I actually didn’t really like the book too much. I guess I felt like nothing really happened, not enough of a plot. I hadn’t heard that the next two books were supposed to be better so maybe I’ll give the second one a shot. And your tomatoes look beautiful!
Lauren @ Chocolate, Cheese and Wine says
I felt the same exact way – it was monotonous and there was absolutely no plot. Nothing made me want to keep reading, the only reason I finished the book was because I bought it.
Carrie @ Fitness and Frozen Grapes says
The email signatures had me laughing pretty hard, too :)
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I didn’t even realize the email subjects/signatures changed from email to email until about half way through. You’re right, they’re pretty hilarious though! I just ordered the second one… I’m looking forward to starting it!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Oh what I wouldn’t give for fresh tomatoes! They are so impossible to grow in this Florida heat!
Janae @ Bring-Joy says
I know, we’re away from our garden for the summer & it’s killing me, knowing my tomatoes are there & I’m not enjoying them.
Your tomatoes are lovely Courtney.
Kaelin says
Our tomato plants having been working hard and we have tons of tomatoes to use up right now. I just made an awesome roasted tomato with shrimp dish last night:

Enjoy your veggies!!
Sabrina @Work It Ms Jackson says
I just finished the first book. I haven’t heard much about the next two books but am going to start the next one after I finish the book I’m currently reading. I need a little submissive break after the first one. lol
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I love fresh tomatoes! They make all the difference in sandwiches and salads :)
Megan says
I found the second and third books to be much more entertaining. A lot more character and plot development which I appreciated. Did you hear they’re making a movie out of this? I don’t know how that will happen ;]
Rachel says
I picked up that book and read a paragraph a while ago… I felt so awkward haha def not my type of book but I’m glad you’re enjoying it! lol
Kim@hungryhealthygirl says
I’m on book two and have been listening to them on my phone. Believe me, that’s a whole different experience! I actually think I would like it better if I were reading it, just no time and I do a lot of driving. Many of the things they say sound a bit corney, listening to it.
Garden tomatoes are the best!!
Khushboo says
Can’t wait to start the book this weekend- i love technology but I think my brain needs a break!
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
Your tomatoes are gorgeous!! I’m so jealous! Our plant died from the heat wave. We tried starting a new one though, so hopefully it will survive!
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance says
I’ve been hearing a lot about 50 Shades of Grey–and can’t decide if I want to read it. I keep hearing about how awkward some parts are. Keep us updated on your thoughts.
Danica @ It's Progression says
How exciting about your tomatoes!! We own a townhome, and though the house is completely ours, we aren’t responsible for/can’t change the outside care of the building/yard, otherwise I would love to have a garden too! I’m excited to see if your tomatoes will turn into a zucchini-like situation…I kind of hope so haha
Linda says
I read all 3 books and loved them…so much that I’m reading them again! The email subjects cracked me up and so did the signatures!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That salad looks great!!!
Jessica @ New Girl, New City says
Fresh tomatoes are seriously nature’s candy!
Sana says
I love that you are eating straight from the garden!!!
Jill says
I’m reading it, a few chapters behind you I think. Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed by the overuse of the word “murmur”? SERIOUSLY…. Stop murmuring all the time!!! Ugh. lol.
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
The awkwardness factor is what is keeping me from reading the series!
I got my first tomato crops too and they are soo yummy!
Kat says
Loved 50 shades! You have to pay attention to the email subject lines and also how they sign off, they always change their titles in their email signatures.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
That book definitely sucks you in! I did find that the actual quality of the writing was atrocious in the first book. In the sense that, a 15 year old could have written something better for a high school essay (although hopefully of a different subject matter, hehe).
The writing does get better in the next books though!
erica says
omg! the emails were my favorite from the subject lines to the closing signatures! HILARIOUS! ;p
Talia @ Bite Size Wellness says
Yay tomatoes! How exciting.
I just finished all of 50 shades…I have to say that I was more into in the beginning than the end. By the time it got to book 3 I was over the repetitive scenes…if you know what I mean!
Megan @ The I Do Diaries says
Nice looking tomatoes! I can’t wait until we move into a house so I can start a garden, just not possible in our apartment :-( I actually haven’t jumped on the Shades of Grey bandwagon yet, I think it almost got too hyped up for my liking.
RunEatRepeat says
I started 50 shades a while back, but still haven’t gotten into it… bah.
Suzanne @ Fit Minded Mom says
I loved all three books and didn’t find them to be awkward at all, lol!! What they do certainly isn’t my cup of tea but the books were very entertaining. After a while, I skimmed right past the risque parts and focused on the actual love story. I cannot wait for the movie but I am afraid the wrong actors will be cast and it won’t be nearly as enjoyable as the books. Of course, movies never are!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Mmmm SALAD for lunch out of the garden. YUMM.
Laura says
Yay for tomatoes!!
I have no idea what that book or the Hunger Games books are about (gasp!) lol I am sure I will eventually read them at some point because I havent heard anything bad about them yet but for now I am tabling them.
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
Your salad looks just fabulous Courtney! And I’m impressed by the veggies you’ve been getting from your garden–I have yet to plant anything!
Malika says
I am currently on the 3rd book in the 50 Shades Series and I loved them all so far….If you take the book for face value, that its basically porn for women (lol) then its a fun read! :)
Melissa @ runscootsrun.blogspot.com says
Yummy looking salad! I started and finished all 3 books in 1 week…I was totally addicted! I was like that with the Twilight series too though, lol. Make sure you read all 3…
Sarah says
I read the first two books real fast but im stalled on the 3rd, i liked them a lot… skipping over some uhhh “scenes” at this point though!
Annie @ What's Annie Making? says
That salad looks great! I’m jealous of your tomato plant. Our neighbors have goats (yeah I know…) that came over and ate our plant so no tomatoes for us. And I am #15 in line for that book at the library. I’m so tempted to just buy it on Amazon.
Amanda @ Let Me Be What's Underneath says
Your salad looks delicious–nothing better than home-grown veggies!! :)
Danyelle Franciosa says
What a great looking and delicious salad. Looks very healthy and good to eat. I will try this at home. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Melanie says
Just wait…one of the signature/subject combos in the second book had me laughing out loud! My mom was next to me and assumed it was something dirty, but it was completely innocent! I love this book too :)
Shantel says
50 Shades of Grey is wonderful! I’m on book 2. Also pay attention to Christian’s signature…he changes it from time to time and sometimes its very funny…like Twitchy Palmed CEO!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
50 Shades only gets better!!!
Jessica says
50 shades is awesome! Im in the 2nd book and stayed up til 1:30 last night reading. The emails are so funny!
Katy says
Book two of Fifty Shades is SO good – I’m halfway thru & just purchased book 3!!! I’m addicted!! I was very hesitant to start, but once I did I was hooked. Hurry up and get to book 2 (more of a plot!)!!!
Diane says
I was cringing about halfway through 50 Shades.. but it got better after! The tomatoes in your garden look gorgeous! How long did it take for them to grow?
Bek @ Crave says
I finished it yesterday- and omg I want, no need the second book! It’s just so captivating haha, I love finding a good book to read :)
