Fun Facts Friday {11/1}

by Courtney on November 1, 2013

1. I think we may finally be over the growth spurt with Mr. Lucas over here. The past two nights have been way better than earlier in the week, so I have a feeling we’re on the upswing. Thank god.

2. Because of said growth spurt, this week wound up being pretty rough for me. I totally blame the lack of sleep, but I found myself suddenly super emotional and incredibly overwhelmed. I kept thinking, “how the heck am I going to do all this?!” and was really feeling defeated. Thankfully, Jay was just amazing and helped me out SO much in terms of getting things ready at home in the evenings, and he really did a great job of lifting my spirits. And now that I’m getting a little more sleep, I notice I’m already feeling so much better. So my PSA for the day? Get your SLEEP.

3. We did not have one trick or treater at our house yesterday for Halloween. But honestly, I wasn’t really expecting any since a) the weather was horrible, and b) I think we’ve had a total of 5 trick or treaters over the past four Halloweens that we’ve been living in that house.

4. Today is the day that I (and I’m sure many of you as well) have your willpower tested to the max. Oh yes…today is the day where everyone comes into work with all of their leftover Halloween candy and tries to dump it on their co-workers. (let’s just hope there some 100 Grand’s or some Twix in the mix, hmm?)

5. We have a Halloween party to go to on Saturday and I’m having the hardest time deciding if I want to make something sweet or savory to bring. Oh, decisions, decisions.

6. Next week at this time, Jay, Lucas, and I will be down in New York City for a pretty exciting little trip. More details to come. (I know, I’m terrible)

7. I haven’t worked out since last Monday. And even the thought of it right now makes me yawn. I can’t wait to have my energy back.

8. You guys want to know what my morning music selection of choice has been this week? Oh, that would be the Baby Einstein station on Pandora. We’ve been rockin’ out to ‘Wheels on the Bus’ and ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ in the car like it’s nobody’s business.

9. I realized, as I’m typing these up, that these Fun Facts posts are actually a whole lot like my Tangents posts I used to do. Maybe I should just start calling them that again? They were fun.

10. Last night I got caught up on this week’s episode of Nashville…and can I just say, I absolutely love Hayden Panettiere’s character of Juliette Barnes. Girl cracks me up.

11. This morning, I put on the one pair of pre-pregnancy jeans that I had left that hadn’t been fitting me and I was super pumped to see that they are once again wearable (I missed my black skinny jeans!). And I’ll tell ya something…having gone through pregnancy seriously makes me appreciate my body in a whole new light now. I may not be a size 2 (or even 4, for that matter) but I am damn proud of what this bod of mine has been capable of doing. And I know that probably sounds cliché, but it’s true. I think I’m more comfortable now than I have been in a long, long time and I just love it (and I also love not worrying about any of it one bit either).

12. Happy November to you all! It just doesn’t seem possible to already be this far along in 2013. How many more days should we give before we’re bombarded with Christmas commercials? (I’d say and Christmas décor in the stores too, but that’s been up for weeks…in fact, they were right next to the Halloween costumes in Target. Seriously…can we just get through one holiday at a time? Goodness gracious!).

That’s all I’ve got for ya today, friends. Have a happy Friday and a great weekend!!

Love what you said about your feelings towards your body. I’ve felt the same way since having Addie. I’m more content with myself than I ever have been. My baby weight was slow to come off, but I was OK with that. And I’m still not exactly where I used to be, but I don’t care. My body did an amazing thing, so I’m going to treat it with respect! ;)

So excited to hear about your NYC trip … I’ve been waiting to hear the big news you’ve been teasing us with!
And with respect to your comment about your post-pregnancy body … I applaud you for sharing what you have about your past body insecurities and now your acceptance because it is EXACTLY how many women feel about their bodies at one point or another. I know firsthand how difficult it is to have to gain weight having previously suffered from an eating disorder, but I also know how refreshing and satisfying it is to finally accept your body for what it is and what it can do. I’m definitely not a size 2 or 4 (more like a size 10), but I don’t think I’ve ever been more satisfied with my body than I am now. Years ago when I was feeling down about myself and my body, my boyfriend said something to me that changed the way I view myself … “You’re supposed to look like a woman, not a young girl. I like you just the way you are.” I don’t think I’ll ever forget it and I say it to myself every once in a while when I’m in need of a boost of confidence.
Congrats to you for (finally) feeling comfortable in your own skin!

I’m so glad Lucas is past the growth spurt! You know I was experiencing the same thing earlier this week, so I completely understand! I hope you can get some good sleep this weekend and that next week will be better!

And I love that you’re feeling so great these days. I can totally relate to that as well. Our bodies sure are incredible, aren’t they?!

You know what’s funny? I have had the Baby Einstein Contradance Melody in my head for the past 2 hours. Life of a mom; good times.
Looking forward to hearing about your NYC plans. I’ve already done a lot of travelling with our little guy it’s always been great (except for the 35 hour one by myself to and from Australia…let’s not talk about that)!

I’ve had the same sort of freedom after having kids with how I view my body. Even more so post Braedon. I still have my moments (don’t we all?!) but it’s so nice to know it is not near the level of consuming it used to be. Plus, it’s nice to just LIVE.

And you go girl! So happy to hear your confidence. I’m a size 6 and I just feel like it’s the perfect combo of thin yet curvy. I certainly gained more confidence after having Kenzer and thinking to myself, “This body MADE A HUMAN BEING!!”. Pretty amazing miracle, right?!

Have a great weekend!

OmG candies in Halloween are such a treat! I decided to eat one piece or dark chocolate with almonds last night and some cookies. Today I don’t have to go to work so I don’t have to spoil myself! However, I’m sending blog strength to you don’t over indulge yourself in candies, or maybe yes? Only for the sake of candies! Wishing you a happy trip to NYC! And it is so cool to hear about the way you accept your body, many people need this inspiration!!

I’m so glad to hear that you are doing well in the body confidence department. You looked great before and during your pregnancy, and you look great now! I hear a lot of women say that they appreciate their bodies so much more after giving birth and that they worry less about it than before, I really hope I’m the same way.

I was over at a friend’s house last night to hand out candy, and we didn’t get a single trick-or-treater either. The weather wasn’t the greatest, so I didn’t expect many… but… not even one?! Eesh. That being said, I’m not huge on Halloween so I’m more than ready to bust out the Christmas decor  I’m trying to hold myself back until December, but we’ll see if I make it or not…

Have you tried listening to Rockabye Baby or Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star? They’re lullaby versions of music we would actually want to listen too (my favorite right now is the Coldplay cd). Totally saves my sanity in the car (and is surprisingly calming also!)

At home, all of the kids grew up and not too many have moved in. Sooo there’s MAYBE 3 trick or treaters on Halloween! None come to my street because it’s hidden in the back and dark, so most skip over it. More candy for us! ;) Now that I’m at college in a dorm room that’s on 24/7 lockdown (no one can get in without a key), I obviously had no trick or treaters! But next year once Christian & I are married and living in Family & Graduate Housing with a ton of kids, we’ll have trick or treaters again!!

I’m guessing it’s something for your job that’s the exciting news. I could be wrong but I’m just going to guess it’s something about that aspect of your life.

I’m starting to like Hayden Panettiere’s character on Nashville this season! Last year, she was an overall witch but she comes off as nicer with a few witchy moments now. I have to say : Team Rayna over Juliette though.

I struggled with body image in the past and thought I was at a good place with it before pregnancy…humbling…because it wasn’t till post baby that I realized just how AMAZING my body truly is!!!! Pregnancy reminded me of the importance of appreciating what my body can DO versus what size it is. So happy you found this freedom too!!!!

Make a savory snack! I have been to so many Halloween parties where its all sweets and I would kill for some real food-this year I made some Tofurky pigs in blankets with some hot mustard sauce. Have fun!

sweet vs. savory: go for both-stuff a date with a pecan, wrap in a bacon, bake on a cookie sheet over a baking dish (line with foil-easier clean-up). can be prepped in advance!

We had really rainy weather on Halloween so despite being in a neighborhood with lots of families, we only had 5 trick-or-treaters. I had a feeling we wouldn’t have too many so I only opened up 1 bag of candy. I was so happy the lady at Target took the other bags back today. She was like “you and the rest of the world that overbought”…it’s not MY fault it rained and I don’t want to get stuck eating this all! ;)

Hope you have a great NYC trip! I’d love to go there one day! Congratulations in fitting your pre-pregnancy jeans and still feeling really comfortable about your post pregnancy body. OOh, yes the temptations when people bring candy to work…….well as you said it needs a lot of will-power. I hope you are feeling better now and hope you get lots of good sleep in the coming week!
