How are you guys liking my ridiculously long post titles for Mondays these days? I got bored with always calling them weekend highlights…so, there ya have it.
Hey, Happy Columbus Day! I’m sure many of you probably have today off…alas, I do not…but I hope you all either had a great weekend or are having a fabulous long weekend. While our weekend wasn’t extra long, it was a nice one. Not too many plans, but honestly, there’s hardly going to be a time when I’ll say a weekend isn’t nice because a) it’s two days off from work, and b) it’s extra time spent with my family.
We had a pretty chill, semi-boring Friday night. Ended up grabbing a frozen pizza from our freezer and had that for dinner, along with a couple glasses of wine…which almost instantly had me ready for bed. I’m so old.
Lucas slept in until almost 8:30am on Saturday morning (!!!) so since I knew he wouldn’t be ready for his nap for a while, I took advantage and brought him with me to the Farmers Market.
I didn’t realize that everything was still outside (I haven’t been all year…so sad!) so had I known, I probably would have bundled up both of us better. But luckily we made do with what we had and an extra blanket.
And Cheerios, of course.
I ended up picking up some kale, spaghetti squash, a pound of some grass-fed ground beef, and a 6-pack of our favorite cherry raspberry beer from Brown’s.
I could have bought about 500 other things, but I try to stick with the rule of no credit cards at the Farmers Market. Otherwise, that could lead to trouble with a capital T. Know what I mean??
By the time we got back home, Jay had already mowed and raked the leaves in the front yard (I planned that one well, didn’t I?) so we spent a little time playing in the piles and trying to teach Lucas how to jump in them.
Somehow, I’m the one who ended up in the leaves the most…
But eventually…
He got it.
We were too lazy to do any cooking for dinner on Saturday either so we fed Lucas and then ended up getting some subs from Subway for us, along with a movie from Redbox. We rented Blended, have you guys seen it yet? We both really liked it and chuckled throughout most of it. Cody even hung out and snuggled with us for most of it, too.
On Sunday morning, I had plans to meet up with some of the girls for a surprise 30th birthday breakfast for my friend, Rachel. Her husband Steve arranged the whole thing and she was totally surprised…great job, Steve-o!
I ordered a very veggie omelet with rye toast and home fries, and everything was totally delicious.
Just another reminder that I should really take more time during the week to make eggs. WHY do I not do this?!
The afternoon consisted of picking up our groceries, making Lucas another batch of turkey apple meatballs, and getting a head start on this post (since I always get mad at myself when I wait until Sunday night at like, 9pm, to write the whole thing).
Once Lucas woke up from his nap, we headed over to my in-laws’ house (<—grammar peeps, did I get that apostrophe right?!?) for dinner and to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. How great is that, right?!
For dinner, we had a delicious beef and butternut stew from the crockpot, along with some rolls and homemade applesauce.
The stew had great flavor and was surprisingly filling.
But, of course, there was still a little room for dessert. Especially when there’s brownies involved.
And that pretty much sums up our weekend! How about you guys? What was going on in your neck of the woods??

What a wonderful weekend! We laid low and enjoyed our first family walk with our new son and lots of visitors. It was a great one, indeed!
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
Awww, so stinkin’ cute!!! E wouldn’t have a clue what to do with leaves… aside from trying to eat them. haha
Your Friday sounds like mine, but sub beer for wine. Pizza Friday is totally a thing. ;)
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Oh my word he is so cute sitting in those leaves!!

Sounds like a great weekend! We are fixing up a house we are moving into in two weeks, so our free time is consumed by that. We did get to watch some football though!
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
I’m so jealous of all the fall clothing in this photo! It was close to 90 this weekend in Georgia. When it’s that hot in October, I’m just mad at life. Praying for some cooler temps soon!
Kristen says
Not sure on the apostrophe. I should know too because my last name ends in an S!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
i’m a teacher and i don’t have today off!! enjoy your day!! :) :)

The pictures of you and Lucas in the leaves just made my morning. What a beautiful family you have :)
Torry @ A World Without Wheat says
It looks like you had a great weekend! I need to get to our farmers market one more time before the season ends. I have the only cash rule too when I go there.
Happy Monday!
Monica says
That sounds like a really good, relaxing weekend!
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
I totally agree with the cash only rule at the farmer’s market. Plus, you can only carry so much so it helps prevent you from becoming the crazy bag lady! Everything always looks so good though!

The picture of you and Lucas in the leaves is so heartwarming! My weekend was super relaxed – I couldn’t go out or most of it because my body was feelin sore from drinking vodka martinis Friday night and it took me the whole weekend for my to get back to normal. Don’t know if it’s happened to any of you but that’s the last time I use that as my preferred alcoholic beverage of choice!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Lucas is so cute playing in the leaves! You’ve had so many fall already. Most of ours are still green and I am not looking forward to the raking!
cait @pieceofcait says
love farmers markets and love a good hearty stew!
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says

What a fun weekend with good people and good food! I celebrated an anniversary with my boyfriend- it was food filled and lots of fun!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Love the pics of you and Lucas in the leaves! So precious. :-)
Danica @ It's Progression says
I love the leaves pictures!
And I know exactly what you mean about the farmer’s market – I always bring only a specific amount of cash and then spend it wisely, otherwise I’d get way too much stuff!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
The photos of Lucas in the leaves = ADORABLE!!! I love it. So glad you guys had a great weekend!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Why is it that brunch food always photographs so well? Yummy!! Happy Monday to you:)
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
Homemade apple sauce is the best – so much better than anything you can buy at the store. Lucas looks like he had fun in the leaves.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
The grammar police in me approves!! ;) Apostrophes with the letter “S” can be super tricky. I always have to think more on those ones!
Chelsea @ Chelsea Eats Treats says
Looks like a fabulous weekend! Lucas is just too cute in those leaves!
And yes, that apostrophe looks right to me, lol!!
Alex says
Looks like such a great weekend!! Homemade apple sauce sounds so good. I bet you could make a super easy version in the crockpot! I hope to grab a pumpkin at the market this weekend so we can carve it before Halloween gets here!
Rachel @The Day Tradette) says
Lucas is so cute in that hoodie! Totally know what you mean by the apostrophes situation, causes some serious internal debate before I post. Pretty sure you nailed it though :)
Gracie says
That first pic of Lucas standing by / staring at the leaves is hilarious and adorable :P
ellie | fit for the soul says
Awww he’s such a cutiepie!!! And I totally know what you mean at the farmer’s market. Half of the time I go I end up leaving with nothing because I’m either trying to “save” money or being cheap, or I end up with too much stuff! Not sure if it’s that much cheaper than the store, sometimes.

Nothing better than playing in the leaves with kids, am I right?! It’s just a great excuse for adults to act like kids again and who doesn’t love that? :)
As far as what’s happening in my neck of the woods … I said YES to a dress this weekend!!! I actually got pretty emotional when I finally tried on “the” dress … definitely wasn’t expecting to do that! It’s now hanging in my closet at home (away from the husband) and I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait an entire year without trying it on again. ;)
