As much as I complain about not having our own space right now (which I’ll continue to say…it is getting old!), one of the many perks of living with my parents is the fact that they are more than happy to watch Lucas whenever! So last night, Jay and I decided to take advantage of that and headed out for a little weeknight date night dinner.
With everything we’ve had going on lately, between building the house, moving (x2 so far), and some other stuff, things have just been a little stressful and we haven’t had nearly as much “us” time as we like to. Sure, we’re still together most evenings, but you guys get what I’m saying, right? It’s just different when you’re with other people.
Luckily, a nice little dinner out did the trick. Then again, I should use the world “little” lightly, because our dinner was anything but that!
We decided to hit up a local spot, Jimmy Casey’s, which I realized I actually haven’t blogged about since 2011. But I was happy to see they still serve their fresh homemade bread.
As we sat down and started looking over the menus, we saw that they have a special deal on Monday and Tuesday evenings: 4 courses for $20. Seriously? After seeing the options that they had for it, we both decided it was too great of a deal to pass up so we went for it.
For the first course, we each got something different so we could share; I ordered the calamari and he ordered the crab cakes.
The calamari was simple but so delicious, and the crab cakes were great. Not a ton of breading, lots of crab…and no shells. ;)
My handsome date. He’s been so great lately with all of the chaos.
Cheers to wine glasses the size of my head!
Our second course was just a simple house salad, but they have awesome croutons and a great house Italian dressing, so this salad was totally winning.
For my main course, I opted for the Hazelnut Crusted Chicken. I’d had this dish before, years ago, and I was thrilled to see that it still does not disappoint. The sweet mandarin cream sauce they put on top is just SO good.
In order to save room for our final course, I ate about half the chicken and some veggies because I was seriously losing steam at this point. But I still managed to save room for that dessert!
Which was a simple brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.
Demolished.
Needless to say, the two of us left the restaurant wishing we had stretchy pants and some wheelchairs to wheel us out to our car. But the food was fantastic, and the company was even better. :)

That meal looks fantastic. Good to see you guys are getting some alone time between all the chaos going on. I cannot believe what it would be like not having your own space!

I LOVE that you prioritized dessert over dinner – I fully support that idea and do it myself. “The food will keep for tomorrow, but the dessert will melt.” Makes perfect sense!
Moving stinks, and living out of boxes is stressful, but you’re almost in your dream home!! Have a great day!

Nothing that good food and a little date-night can’t fix. Right? :)

I used to go to Casey’s quite a bit with my family. It was always a favorite. The homemade bread looks amazing.

Ha! Stretchy pants and wheel chairs. That’s when you know it was good food. Date nights are the best. Looks like a great time.
Niki @ Life With Niki says
Goodness, hazelnut crusted chicken sounds so delicious! And that dessert… I can never say no to ice-cream. You got a really great deal for that amount of food- especially with the quality factor in mind!

That dessert though… Can I reach through the computer and have some? Haha. You know it’s a good meal when you are dreaming of changing into yoga pants as soon as you get home!

It sucks that you’re having a rough go of the living situation. I moved with my now husband back to my hometown and in with my parents from Bombay and it was somehow, magically, great! I will say that we did not have a kid and I cannot imagine my mom (who’s a teacher!) watching over my shoulder as I parent. NIGHTMARE!

The food looks great! It must be nice to get random date nights in :)

So nice to get that two-of-you time! I love calamari (grilled, not fried – GF!) and that is an amazing deal.
Jessica @ Our Young Adventures says
Yum! Now I want calamari!! As much as I am not a fan of most chain restaurants, Carrabba’s is our yummy go to date night. Which coincidentally has calamari too ;)

Time alone as a couple is really important. And the food looks pretty fantastic too. :-)

Ooooh! We love Jimmy Casey’s! When we got married, we had our reception at Casey’s Banquet House. It was an endeavor between Jimmy and a few pals to start up a banquet house in an old Elk’s club. Their food is to die for. I don’t know if the banquet house is still in existence but we love their food!
