1. Is today even for real? I still can’t get over the fact that the day is finally here for us to have our own home once again. Two and a half months later, and here we are. Crazy!
2. Umm, so when did the ice cream truck get so expensive? Sheesh! I heard it in my parents’ neighborhood yesterday afternoon after work, so I decided to take Lucas to see if we could find him. Sure enough, there he was!
Lucas had his first encounter with the ice cream man, and thank goodness that he wasn’t overly picky about what he got because apparently, $1.50 can only get you about two things on the truck now…
I can remember back in the day ALWAYS wanting either a chipwich or a wrestling bar, but they were $1.25-$1.50 and that was only for a special treat because we usually only got a dollar. My, how things have changed!
3. My parents and Jay just walked in the door with pizza after their softball game, and I’m totally distracted by the smell of it now as I try to type up this post. Considering I had a lame PB&J sandwich for dinner about 3 hours ago, I’m absolutely going to get a slice of that pizza…
4. Okay, seriously, how adorable are these new sneakers for Lucas?
New Balance recently sent Lucas a pair from their new Kids Vazee line, and I think they’re just so cute. On top of that, I absolutely LOVE the velcro top…no ties = fabulous.
Unfortunately, these were the best pics I could get of him in his new kicks, but we’re all big fans of them over here.
Thanks again, New Balance!
5. So after this weekend, it’s about time I put a serious kibosh on the “buying coffee just about every morning.” The chaos of the summer got me in to the habit of buying coffee at least 3-4 times a week, and as we all know, that really adds up. So once the chaos of the moving weekend is over, it’s time to go back to Coffee Friday. Orrrrr, Coffee Every Other Friday. Orrrr, maybe I’ll just try to ease myself into it again.
6. Earlier this week, I was having some pretty severe stomach pains and acid reflux. So much so, that it bothered me enough to make an appointment to go see the doctor for it, because when it hurts to the point where I can’t eat, that’s definitely a problem.
This was my sad attempt at dinner the night before I made it to the doc
I can’t remember if I’ve blogged about it before, but I developed some pretty bad acid reflux back right around the time in my life when I wasn’t fueling my body properly. From there, I was on Nexium for probably 5 years or so, and about two years ago, I decided to try to wean myself off. Long story short, being off of meds does not work well for me, and after attempting once again to wean myself off of a different medicine, we determined that it’s not working and that my chronic reflux requires meds. So for now, I’m back on it and definitely feeling 100x better. But it’s still frustrating to have to be on anything, because there are side effects and risks no matter what. Can anyone else out there relate?
7. Want to know something funny? I wore this shirt earlier this week for the first time…and I’ve had it for almost a year.
It came in a Stitch Fix back last September, and I just this week got around to taking the tags off and wearing it. Honestly, I had completely forgotten I even had it! But I’m so glad I found it, because I looooooove it. And Lucas loved playing with the holes in it, too.
8. Since there likely won’t be a meal plan post this Sunday (because you didn’t miss much), I do have to share one stellar meal that we had.
That right there was a delicious grilled steak salad with sautéed peppers and onions, feta cheese, and leftover corn on the cob (plus creamy Italian dressing that got drizzled on top after). It was incredible, and something I now want to eat on a weekly basis.
9. I’m super distracted right now, so I think I’m gonna have to cut things short. I’m sure I’ll have some updates on Instagram over the weekend, so be sure to follow along to see what’s happening with the house!
Have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend, whatever you may be doing! <3

I can’t imagine having to deal with acid reflux for years on end! I’ve never had issues with it prior to becoming pregnant, and it’s awful. I hope you are feeling better soon!

Hey Courtney I’m a long time reader and registered dietitian. I work with a lot of clients to help them manage their reflelux. This is a great article about curing reflux naturally and I’ve had gois success with several of my clients following these recommendations. Hope thos is helpful and good luck with the move!! http://chriskresser.com/get-rid-of-heartburn-and-gerd-forever-in-three-simple-steps/

Great article link, Jacqui! I think I recall reading the same article back when it was first published. I can honestly say that many of the suggestions in the article worked for me (I had bad reflux back in 2012). I’m no longer dependent on the daily pharmaceutical drug.

Love that top! It would be on heavy repeat in my closet :)

Girl, you KNOW how excited I am for you! I’m sure you can’t wait to be in ‘your’ space, but think of how excited Lucas will be with a new room!!! ?
Dang, that steak salad looks INCREDIBLE!! I originally wanted sushi tonight, but now you have me rethinking my decision. Way to one up my salad. That feta probably sent it over the edge. ?
That top is so cute on you.
Oh, and I already replied about the article above, but as a sufferer of acid reflux in the past, I can attest to many of the suggestions/changes working! I am no longer needing to pop the daily zantac. Occasionally, if I’m not careful, I’ll need to take something, but so far so good. Email me if you want to chat. And now that I’ve officially blown up your comments, I’m going to stop rambling now……

I am faced with nasty stomach pains when I am dehydrated too. I basically need to lie down until it goes away.

I had the same acid reflux issues and was on medication. I couldn’t eat tomatoes onion garlic coffee etc because they made it so bad. I always ate healthyish but since cutting out all processed foods (including white sugar except on special occasions) my acid reflux is totally gone. I can eat tomatoes on the same day as coffee with no medicAtion! I only eat bread/crackers/granola bars of I make them from scratch with sprouted grains. so so nice not having that constant pain anymore! I’m sure any amount of processed foods you cut out would help.

I love that shirt!! You are just too pretty and Lucas is too cute. Good luck with everything with the house! :)

That steak salad looks amazing!!! Yum. Also, I love when I find random clothes in my closet that I haven’t worn and completely forgot about. That shirt is adorable. Congrats on the new home!! That’s so exciting. One last thing… I love the new sneaks for Lucas. Happy Friday! xo

I am on omeprazole daily for my acid reflux…I think it’s been close to 5 years and I can totally tell when I forget any more than one dose. A previous DR tried to tell me I needed to stop taking it but I still had terrible reflux…she was also the DR who I begged to have my thyroid tested and she refused telling me I just eat to late or a million other excuses. So glad I found a new DR that tested my thyroid first thing and I was RIGHT! He also diagnosed me with GERD. I don’t like having to take meds everyday but they have definitely increased my quality of life. I think having a great DR makes all the difference also :)

yay for closing on the new house! and the mini NB’s are so cute. hope you guys have a great wknd.

Oh how I sadly understand your acid reflux issues. I’ve had GERD(sounds so lovely, right) since I was 19 and I’ve had some terrible flares over the years. One time we even called an ambulance because everything about my attack mimicked a heart attack and I was 27 years old, lol! My poUnt is, I understand your pain!!
Gosh, I think 2.5 months is an awesome time frame to build s house though I’m sure it seemed like forever!! We are trying to sale our home now so we can build but the process will take a loooong 4-6 months. Ugh!!

I don’t know what it is, but I think baby/toddler tennis shoes are just the most adorable thing ever!

YES to #6! I have the same issue for the same reason. I can totally commiserate. And it really, really sucks that I did it to myself.. I had no idea there are so many side effects to underfueling. One doctor I saw really scared me because she said chronic acid reflux can cause cancer. Whether that’s true or not, I’ll just keep taking the only thing that seems to work (prescription nexium) and hope for the best!
Nancy says
Ha ha! Love the antics Lucas gets up to – best shot of the shoes, and him playing with the “holes” in your shirt, so cute.
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Tennis shoes on little toddlers is the CUUUUUTEST thing ever!!! My heart just melts when I see my little nephew rocking his, it makes them look so grown up! Have a great weekend!
Jenny says
I NEED to make that salad! Holy yum!

I feel you in the stomach issues ??. My reflux/IBS really act up under stress. New houses and moving are exciting but can also be stressful!! Congratulations on your new home!
Terry says
sorry about your reflux! I had it for years and due to the long term risks of taking drugs like Nexium, I chose to have surgery to correct my prolapsed esophageal valve and no longer suffer. Plus, my doctor didn’t want to keep prescribing Nexium because of the increased risk for fractures longterm! But, it isn’t the answer for everyone. Hope you feel better

I recently started taking ACV capsules. A TON of people on the reviews swear that they were on reflux medicine for years and have been able to completely stop them by taking ACV twice a day. I can’t drink it but the pills are tolerable, plus they are supposed to help with bloat and skin issues! May be worth a shot??
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Yay for the new house, Courtney! Sorry to hear about your acid reflux issues though. :( Always the good and the bad, right? Hope your weekend goes well!
Denisse Cristina says
Girl yes! I was diagnosed with gastritis/IBS/reflux back in 2010 when I was only 16. I was on meds for about three months and then I weaned myself off from them. However, the pain was always there just more subtle. A year later I had another crisis and went back on the meds and ever since then, I’ve been on meds on and off because I try to wean myself off from them too early or something happens or my IBS is just chronic, which sucks because it strikes when I least need it and when I’m stressed out. Ugh it sucks so I feel you.
Shannon @ A Pinch of Ginger says
im so sorry about your reflux and can tally relate. I was ‘sick’ due to some serious stomach pain for about 3 months and I also did not eat. It turned out I have SIBO. I would ask the doctor to test you for that if you can! It’s just a simple breath test. I now follow a low FODMAP diet and its seemed to really help my symptoms without medication!
Stefanie says
First off, congrats on the big move!! :D I know how exciting it is to build/design your own home and finally move in – that’s what my parents did a few years ago!
I can also relate with the being on meds. I had a bout of gastritis/reflux for a while and HAD to be on my medication. After the symptoms subsided, I really wanted to be off it because like you, I hate depending on medication for long term. So what I did was verrrrry slowly weened off it. I started taking a pill morning and night, cut that down to one pill for a couple months, then half a pill for a couple months, then 1/4 pill for a few months then only 1/4 pill every other day. While weening off this way, I did sometimes get the symptoms show a tiny bit but I pushed through them instead of upping my dose, and sure enough my symptoms went away for good! Once in a while they come back temporarily if I do something to aggravate it with trigger foods (such as caffeine on an empty stomach, for me). Good luck!
Whitney says
I have the same reflux problem! I battled an eating disorder, and my GI system has never been the same since then. When I got mono in college for some reason it got even worse. I went on Nexium a few years ago, and it’s the only thing that works. Like you I’ve tried weaning and weaning to other medications, but all attempts failed. I was at least able to cut down the dose, so I now can take the over the counter Nexium. I also hate to be reliant on a medication, but if it works it works. It really beats the stomach pains.
