I decided to take the month of August off from receiving a Stitch Fix box, but just last week I received a new one and it turned out to be pretty awesome! I’m still on the fence for a few of the items, so I’m hoping I can count on you all to help me out in deciding what to keep and what to send back. You in?!
In case you’re new to Stitch Fix and how it works, you can read all about it in my first post about the service, HERE.
For this month’s fix, I really didn’t give me stylist too much to go off of. I said I didn’t really need pants/bottoms, but that I’m always open to flowy tops and maybe a dress. I also mentioned that a new bag for fall would be nice…and sure enough, the stylist delivered on all of it. Love when that happens!
Apologies ahead of time for the lack of makeup/glasses/unwashed hair…I was just too lazy to take care of all of that when I took the pics this weekend.
MARKET & SPRUCE Aleah Heathered V-Neck Dolman Top – $48.00
When I first saw this top in the box, I didn’t think I’d be interested in keeping it since I already have a couple of tops fairly similar. However, the fit of this one is slightly different and there’s just something about it that I really love. It’s super cozy too, so for those reasons, it’s a KEEPER.
PAPERMOON Fabiana Dress – $58.00
I’m so, so not sure about this dress. Initially, I thought meh…the pattern seemed a bit older, and the fit isn’t all that fitted so it just sort of hangs a bit when I’m standing.
similar // similar // similar // similar
But then I look at it other times (like when I was taking these pics) and it thought, okay, maybe I like it? Could be cute dressed down with a cardigan and some knee high boots maybe?? I don’t know, what do you guys think? KEEP or RETURN?
41HAWTHORN Moni Studded Short Sleeve Blouse – $54.00
I had a feeling I’d like this top as soon as I took it out of the box and, sure enough, I did.
I love the cut, the neckline, the pattern, and the pretty studded details. It’ll be perfect for fall/winter/spring for work, so it’s definitely a KEEPER.
RD STYLE Chara Open Cardigan – $74.00
This is probably the one item I was most excited about when I first got my fix…but now, I just don’t know?!
I love the cozy feel of it (it’s SO soft), but I’m just not sure about the length…it’s so long! I also wish the sleeves were a teeny bit longer (I’m pulling them down in the pics, otherwise they’re slightly higher than my wrists).
So considering the higher price point, since I’m not totally sure about it, it’s likely going to be a RETURN.
STREET LEVEL Alder Zip Top Tote – $58.00
A new, beautiful plum colored tote bag for fall?
YES, PLEASE! I think the color will go great with brown shades, black, and everything in between.
It’ll definitely be a fun way to add a little pop of color to my typically dark fall/winter wardrobe.
This one’s a KEEPER.
So there’s the September fix! Right now, I’ve got 3 keepers, 1 return, and one on the fence.
So what do you guys think?! Have you tried Stitch Fix lately?
Annie says
I love love love the bag!! Beautiful color!
Regarding the dress, meh. I don’t think it’s particularly flattering and it’s quite expensive to keep it “just in case”.
Annie says
Hi Courtney,
I’m having problems with my gravatar account as it is linked to one that isn’t mine and the wordpress helper has asked me with which email address my comment was posted and apparently the owner of the website can tell me this. Would you be kind enough to have a look and see? Can you see something where “Glameleon” appears? (that name isn’t mine but it seems to somehow be linked to my profile)!
Brynn says
Awesome fix! Love the v-neck and bag. I like the dress but have seen more flattering styles on you. It almost seems too big?
Lynn says
If you question them, send them back. Love the tops but not the dress or cardi. Save yourself the money. Side note, love the pants and I’m in the market for that style, where are they from if you don’t mind my asking?
Courtney says
Thanks Lynn! I got them from the Banana Republic outlet a little over a year ago
Jenna says
Sorry to jump in, but I just wanted to let you know Lynn, that I just bought a similar pair of pants (in the Marissa fit) from Loft! I love them.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
I’d keep everything with the exception of the dress…great Fix! Need me a new Fall bag!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
i LOVE the off the shoulder top!! definitely would have kept that too!
Amanda @A Latte Learn says
Ooh I love the black and white shirt! If you’re on the fence about the dress I’d say it’s not worth keeping. There are cuter dresses out there to be had ?
Amanda says
Girl, you could make a paper bag look good but on that note.. the dress needs more structure. You’re righr, that it totally just hangs there. It is cute but I think you can do better. :)
Courtney says
LOL thanks Amanda! :)
Trisha says
If the dress were that pattern and fitted, or a solid pattern with that loose fit, it would be great. But the loose fit + grandma-esque pattern makes for a bad combo. I vote return. And the cardigan too. What’s the point of a long, comfy cardi if the sleeves are too short?! For me the sleeves coming over my hands a bit is all a part of the comfort factor.
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says
I like the long sweater over the dress :) and I LOVE that black and white top and the purse! So cute!
Julie VerHage says
I love a lot of the items in your fix, but not the dress. Gives you a boxy figure. And, my number one rule is that if I’m mixed on something, I don’t buy it. Chances are it will be something I wear once or twice and then get sick of.
Courtney says
You’re so right, Julie! The dress has got to go back!
Julie VerHage says
:) I really do love the other stuff though. Especially the blouse!
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
Stitch Fix is so fun! I love the cardigan and think it is a keeper. I’m a fan of longer cardis in the fall/winter. I am not a fan of the dress though. Sorry!
Courtney says
No apologies needed – I’ve decided I’m not either :)
amelia@i_heart_kale says
Dress= no! No offense to the stylist, but you’re not 45 years old! ?
I like the sweater jacket. Athleta has one in their catalog that’s about $150, so depending on the fabric/quality, it may be worth the keep.
Love love love the first shirt!!!! I’d get one in every color if it was possible.
Courtney says
LOL thanks for the chuckle Amelia ;)
Julie says
OMG I about crapped when I read this comment… I AM 45, & FYI I wouldn’t wear that dress either! Thanks for making me feel ancient this morning. :P
amelia@i_heart_kale says
Sorry if I offended you Julie. When I was little, all my aunt’s wore these style dresses with floral print. Memories.
Julie says
No offense taken – it just kind of cracked me up that your example of “old” was 45. Ouch! ;)
amelia says
Crap! That’s my 15 on 30 mindset! If it makes you feel any better, I am a bad judge of age. Just yesterday I asked my neighbor how old he was, thinking he was young, maybe 40? Nope, he verified 55. I about dropped my chin to the road. He must take excellent care of his health. Dude is good looking.
Beks says
I’ve never tried Stitch Fix, but it seems like fun. I just think it’s a bit pricey for me (I’m working towards paying off mondo debts).
I would honestly return the dress. It’s a bit mid-90’s. It *might* look cute with a belt cinching you in at the waist, but as it stands right now, it does nothing for you.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says
LOVE the first shirt and the bag so much! Great fall colors. My general clothes-shopping rule is that if I’m not sure about something, I don’t get it. If I don’t love it at first, I’m probably not going to love it in two months, so I’d say no to the dress.
Courtney says
You’re totally right, Ellen. Dress is going back!
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
I love the pattern of the dress, but think that shift dresses in general can be hard to wear. I do think that dress would look super cute if you belted it and had some boots!
Dena says
You are WAY too cute for that blue dress. NO. It is not flattering on you, send it back ASAP :) I actually love that cardigan, but it is pretty expensive, so I understand why you are sending it back.
Courtney says
HAHA, this made me laugh out loud. Thanks, Dena! ;)
Cindy says
I have to agree that the patterned dress isn’t a good fit. I love the plum color of the bag and both of the tops look great. I would love to try something like StitchFix here in the UK. With a toddler, I hardly have time to browse around for new brands or new styles so receiving a box of recommendations like this would be great to mix up my wardrobe!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
Keep the sweater return the dress :)
Lisa says
Hi Courtney – Since you asked, this is what I think. I love everything except the dress, and possibly the cardigan. The dress is too “matronly” and I’m just not feeling the cardigan but if you like it, that’s all that matters. I LOVE the bag! Definitely a keeper! :)
Courtney says
Thanks for the feedback, Lisa! I agree, it is pretty matronly…good word for it ;)
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
Cute stuff!! Just FYI – Athleta has a REALLY cute cardigan very similar to the grey one above and it would look fabulous on you! In their fall line – not sure of the name.
Kristin says
LOVE the black and white top and the bag! The dress, not so much. It screams either maternity or old lady. Great fix though!
Courtney says
LOL I agree with the old lady part ;)
Christina says
Love it all except the dress ! It’s just ok and seems a bit on the “older” side. Can I ask what brand /style your glasses are? I’m currently looking to get a new pair!
Courtney says
Oh man…I’m not sure?! And I don’t even see anywhere on there that says anything either?? I got them last year from Empire Vision, haha. Sorry I don’t have more info for you!
Kelsey Bjelland says
That dolman top looks great on you!! Love the color, too! I like the plum bag.. definitely the it color for fall. All you need to make the dress work is a skinny black patent belt to highlight your waist and give it some shape! :)
Courtney says
I thought about that, but belts worn like that actually tend to bother my stomach…so I guess it’s gonna have to be a return!
Ash Diamond says
That dress and that long wrap are definitely NOT flattering! Return!
Courtney says
Haha I agree, thanks Ash!
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement says
You have a great figure and I don’t think that dress is cut right to flatter you. Like your other keepers though!
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy says
Love the green top!
Jamie says
Often times I feel like the pieces in my StitchFix are totally hit or miss. I’m hoping to get a new box in October for some good transition pieces from fall into winter.
Andi says
Because you asked…not loving the dress on you. Pattern is not flattering nor is the style..other items look cute
Mandee says
Hmmm.. To be honest, for $74 that cardigan is nothing special. It looks like ones I see in the juniors section at Kohls… And there’s nothing wrong with Kohls, I shop there, but my thinking is you could get a similar one for much cheaper elsewhere. As for the dress, it’s a pretty comforter pattern or accent pillowcase pattern, but it’s just not really flattering. I think that’s a hard outfit for anyone of any hair color/skin tone/body type to pull off.
Brenda says
The bag is so cute!
The sweater and dress and both unflattering. I would return both.
Brenda says
*are
Taylor says
Love you, Love the blOg but hate the dress! Everything else is fab!
Courtney says
LOL! This was hilarious, thanks Taylor. The dress is heading back ;)
Lisa says
I received my fix last week (kept everything…my stylist is great.) I’d return the dress. It seems kind of boxy and not much shape to it. Love the tops.
Erin M. says
Not a fan of the dress, but I love the cardigan! I think it looks great paired with the leggings and boots you have it with.
Elizabeth says
The dress seems like it’s too big or something? I’d return it. The cardigan isn’t that great either.
Josie says
Man, I love that bag!!! I say pass on the dress and I like the sweater on you.
good luck!
Nancy says
Agree with others to return the dress. As for the cardigan I’d probably pass since it’s not a perfect fit and on the pricier side. These are fun posts!
Darrecia says
Looks like everyone else beat me to it… Lol happy you’re sending the old lady dress back!
Gail Gullotti says
I also received the exact same tote which I also love. However, there’s a fishy smell inside. Does yours smell that way? I’m on the fence about keeping it because of that.
Courtney says
Hmmm, no mine didn’t have any funky smells?! That’s odd!
Jessica says
I just got a faux-leather jacket in my Stitch Fix. I want to like it, but there’s definitely a weird fishy odor on it.
Gail Gullotti says
I kept the bag and added a sachet of lavender to it and I no longer smell the fishiness. It went away quickly, thankfully.
I’m not sure how you’d handle the fishy odor on a jacket though. You might try airing it out to see if it goes away. If not, return it.
