Well heyyyy there, first bump update for baby #2! Considering I started these at 9 weeks with Lucas, it looks like I’m already following suit with slacking on baby #2. Sorry, kiddo!
At any rate, despite the fact that I was feeling slightly like death the night I had Jay take these photos (Tuesday night, and still today, thanks to a crappy cold that has taken over my entire upper body), here we are.
So if anyone tries to tell me I’m “glowing,” I’m calling you out. Either that, or it’s likely just my nose still running. Regardless, I was a hot mess and it was a rough day…
But anyway. It’s SO interesting to see the differences this time around. My bump at 15 weeks with Lucas was MUCH smaller…this one looks more similar to how I was at closer to at least 18weeks with Lucas?!
Baby is just over 15 weeks today and is about the size of an apple.
HERE’S WHAT ELSE BABY HAS BEEN UP TO THIS WEEK:
- He/she is about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces.
- His/her legs are growing longer than the arms now, and he/she can move all of the joints and limbs.
- Baby can sense light. If I were to shine a flashlight at my tummy, baby is likely to move away from the beam.
- He/she is forming taste buds.
AND HERE’S WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING WITH ME THIS PAST WEEK:
Weight gained: No idea, but I’ll tell you that I’m completely uninterested in knowing. It’s funny, because I was reading my 15 month update with Lucas, and remembering all of those crappy, awful feelings you have when you start to put on some weight around your midsection but don’t necessarily look pregnant yet. It’s a tough time, right?! I was feeling that way around the 11-13 week mark this time around, just because your clothes don’t fit right, but you certainly don’t look like a legit preggo.
I’m fairly positive that my desire to want to eat only carbs and sugar for about 6 weeks straight has contributed to some additional weight gain in the first trimester, but whatever. It is what it is, and I’m sure things will balance back out at some point. This time around, things are FLYING already, so rather than focus on silly things like the weight gain, I’m trying to focus on remembering that I’m actually pregnant. Because there are certainly times I forget since I’m so busy with Lucas/work/life!
Workouts: FIVE this week! And I can’t even beginnnnn to tell you how good it feels to move again. The first trimester was ROUGH this time around (as you already know), and I barely worked out at all. It wasn’t until about 12-13 weeks where I started finding my mojo again. Right now, I’m mostly doing some 21 Day Fix workouts + PiYo, and an occasional kickboxing or barre video here or there. I took yesterday off, since my running nose probably wouldn’t allow me to get very far, but I’m hoping to get back in the game again soon!
Symptoms: Not too many, really. My boobs hurt like CRAZY and I still get an occasional wave of nausea here or there. But for the most part, most of the major symptoms I was experiencing from weeks 6-12 (nausea, heartburn, headaches, dizziness, constipation) are much better.
Food Aversions: I still really can’t do much coffee, although some mornings I try. Fish does not sound at all appealing. And not that it’s food, but I’ve been having a really hard time swallowing my prenatal vitamins at night. They make me want to gag!
Food Cravings: Sweets. Like donuts and muffins and cinnamon rolls and cookies. And anything with melted cheese. And avocados. Oh, and lemonade. Can’t. get. enough. lemonade. these days!
Sleep: Not terrible. I tend to wake up once or twice a night to pee, and this cold has been making things a bit more difficult. But overall, I can’t really complain.
Maternity clothes?: Yep. Not solely maternity, but I have worn a couple of tops (the top I wore on Saturday was maternity) and I’ve most definitely been sporting maternity leggings. I have a feeling they will be a wardrobe staple for the next 25 weeks (wow, that seems long…!).
Stretch marks? Not yet…but things are already stretching so quickly, so who knows?! I apply baby oil after my shower every morning and lotion before bed (when I remember) so hopefully I’ll stay lucky for a while this time around.
Miss Anything? Yes. I miss wine quite a bit. Especially on the evenings where Lucas is testing my patience. I also got a craving for sushi the other day which was a bummer.
Fun & Weird Stuff From the Week: There have been a few times where I thought I’ve felt that weird little pitter patter in my belly, but I still don’t know if it’s a baby or something like gas. Ha! I’ve also had a LOT of people guessing gender lately. There have been many girl guesses, but there’s a big part of me that thinks it’s a boy and I’m not sure why. We’ll find out next month!
Baby Items Purchased: None. I feel like I really can’t until we find out the gender…because if it’s a boy, then we’re basically golden.
Looking Forward To: My next appointment is this Friday, and I’m looking forward to hearing the heartbeat. After that, I’m really just looking forward to Christmas with family!
Questions for the Moms:
- If you’ve been pregnant more than once, did you notice any significant differences between them?
- What did you/do you miss most while pregnant?
- How soon did you feel your baby move? How would you describe it?

Congrats! You do look great even if you don’t feel great! I remember being off seafood for so so long when I was pregnant. Luckily I finally got back into it for summer time on Cape Cod but it took awhile!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
You look great! I think I remember not being certain that it was William moving around in my belly around 20 weeks but I’ve heard you feel your second sooner! You’re probably right!
Brynn says
I’ve been looking forward to an update! I remember craving beer and wine, even though I barely drink, and sushi. Other than that I never had typical pregnancy cravings, which I actually found somewhat disappointing – ha!
Courtney says
LOL – hoping for ice cream and pickle cravings??? ;)
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
your first-round bump updates were so wonderful for me to look back on and read during my pregnancy (but you already know this ;) ) — SO thrilled for round two! and you do look beautiful, even if you were feeling crappy. <3 <3
Courtney says
Thank you, friend! <3 xo
Brittany (healthy slice) says
I’m such a sucker for baby updates- yay!! You really look beautiful even if you don’t feel it.
With baby #2 I felt much more nauseous and it lasted longer. I craved saltier foods. I felt it was different so I thought that one was a boy but nope- a second sweet baby girl! I’m so terrible at guessing ha! I have no mothers instinct.
And oh yes, I totally missed wine!
Chelsey says
You’re glowing! ???? You know I had to put that in there. In still calling girl over here!
I felt the girls move around 15.5 weeks, but I didn’t realize for a few weeks that I had actually been feeling them.
Courtney says
You’re such a smartass. ;)
And I love you. <3
Jana @ Happy Wife Healthy Life says
Love thy your sharing updates! My little guy Jack is 3 months old today (enter sad face!) and I actually didn’t feel him moving until I was closer to 27 weeks! I had an ‘anterior’ placenta as opposed to one posterior so I had an extra layer than most between my baby and outer belly! I was sad that I didn’t feel him early on, but once I did I definitely knew it was the baby! Those kicks sure were strong at times!
Courtney says
A couple of my friends had that before too and they said they felt the same way!
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
I think it’s a girl! I have no idea why, but I just do!
Britt B. says
Do yourself a favor and buy the prenatal gummies…the Up and Up one’s from Target are pretty good! My two (boy) pregnancies were identical, with the exception of really BAD heartburn the second time around. This baby had more hair…but who knows?! I also showed quicker, but ended up gaining 13 less pounds than with my first – yeah! Love the updates…be well!
Courtney says
I was looking at them the last time I was in the store! But then I saw how much more expensive/how fewer vitamins there were with the gummies, and I couldn’t do it lol. That, however, may change soon. ;)
Em @ Love A Latte says
You honestly look great in your photos! I love following these updates so thanks for sharing. I love PiYo and I want to do it while pregnant with #2. Do you modify it or anything at this point? Thanks!!
Courtney says
There isn’t much I have to modify yet with PiYo which is great…although I’m sure the chaturangas will get increasingly difficult with time. ;)
haley @cupcakes and sunshine says
Look at your sweet bump! so, so exciting!!
Kelli Rudolph says
Congrats! You look awesome! I wish my bump looked like yours. I will be 21 weeks along tomorrow and when I’m standing up I definitely look pregnant with a nice bump but when I sit down I get all soft and squishy :( Bummer! I can’t wait for that bump to harden up and be a nice little ball all the time, haha. This is my second pregnancy too and I am noticing I am about 3-4 weeks “ahead” … meaning, I didn’t look this pregnant until about 24 weeks with my first child. We are having a second girl and let me tell you – as nice as it would be to have one of each I am ecstatic that we are all set for clothes for the next baby because we have SO much from our first daughter we are all set :)
Courtney says
Haha ohhh, don’t be fooled. Mine is rather squishy when I sit down too ;)
Congrats on your girls!
Becky Przy says
You look beautiful as usual! I got much “bigger” with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancy. However, my workouts felt “more comfortable” I had aversions and cravings all throughout my 2nd and 3rd pregnancy as well. My 3rd pregnancy definitely kicked my butt all throughout–but I blame that on the fact it was so close after my 2nd (or that it was a boy vs girl;-))
Kathryn says
I actually started showing before I even got my positive test with my second. Also, my two pregnancies were night and day. With my first, I only experienced nausea around dinner time, whereas with my second, I was nauseous from the moment I woke up until the moment I fell asleep, it was horrible. First I craved salads and ranch dressing, second I craved salty things.
Courtney says
That’s so interesting!! What did you have each time (boy/girl)?
Oh, and I LOVE ranch dressing LOL!
Anisha says
Hey Courtney! I’m 17 weeks pregnant today.. and this is our 3rd pregnancy. (I also had a miscarriage too). I already have 2 girls and everything with those pregnancies was completely different! With this one, it’s the exact same as my last one, but we already found out this baby is a BOY! I have noticed though, with the girls, my acne was like a pizza face, and with the both, it’s like porcelain. How is your skin??
Congrats on baby 2! Hope you feel better soon!
Courtney says
Aww congrats to you, Anisha!! My skin isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely been more prone to breakouts since getting pregnant. Oh, the joys! ;)
Jenna @ Crazy Healthy Fit says
You are adorable! I love the prenatal gummies :) Where do you buy your maternity leggings?
Katy H says
No BS – you look fab! Sick and all! I showed much sooner with baby #2 and gained weight a little faster at the beginning, but ended up gaining about 15lbs less with baby #2!
I had slight nausea in the first trimester with Baby #1 (a boy), mostly in the mornings. But with Baby #2 (a girl) I was nauseated allll dayyy long – and especially in the evenings! Also I was much more tired with Baby #2, but I think that’s mostly because I was chasing around the little turd that is Baby #1 – ha!
I missed lunch meat SO MUCH when I was pregnant. I think I ate a turkey sandwich every day for two weeks after my little girl was born.
Courtney says
Oh man, the evenings were the WORST! And LOL to the little turd comment. That made me chuckle ;)
B says
Oh my. I love these and wish I could keep them up for baby #3 but alas time is an issue. My first two pregnancies were SO different and this one is similar to parts of both. I have two girls and found out this ones a boy! You can never tell IMO. Either way babies are so much fun. I’d have a million if I was able:) you look awesome, can’t wait to find out:)
Courtney says
Haha, a million babies. I love it!! Congrats on your baby BOY!
Heather @ Life In Leggings says
Aw, I love seeing these bumpdates, Courtney! You are defnitely bumpin’ for 15 weeks – it’s so cute! <3
Christy says
All of your symptoms are the same as for me when I had my daughter… The nausea, the not wanting coffee, etc. So my guess is a girl but my sil had two girls and felt totally different for both. I think when I go to have a second I will miss the beer/wine more because like you said you patience is tested a lot more with one kid and I def drink more now that I did before! Bet you can’t wait to find out!!
Courtney says
It’s crazy how everyone is so different! And YES, I can’t waaaaaaiiit!
Katie A. says
I love that you talk about forgetting being pregnant this time around. In the first trimester this time (#2), I had a recurring dream that I would go out and drink beer after beer after beer then suddenly have it dawn on me that I was pregnant!! I’d wake up in a panic before thankfully realizing it was a dream! I’m guessing it was because with a toddler I just was not as focused on the pregnancy? I don’t know…kind of funny though.
Also, I am with you – I have been craving ALL THE BAKED GOODS!! I usually have a sweet tooth so I guess I shouldn’t be shocked, but it’s seriously out of control!
I agree with other commenters – you really do look great! I think we all have a tendency to be our own harshest critic :)
Courtney says
Oh my gosh, HAHA! That is a hilarious dream!!
And thank you :)
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Love bump updates! I’m sorry you’re dealing with a crappy cold right now, and I hope that gets squared away asap!
I love your balanced mindset on the whole pregnancy weight gain deal. I hope hope hope I feel the same when I have a child my own one day. I don’t want sour feelings to negate the wonder of carrying a child to full term!
Kristin says
I love reading bumpdates! Especially since I’m about 5 weeks ahead of you with my second. Our symptoms are pretty similar too – first trimester was super rough, but things got easier at 14 weeks. Workouts came back into my life, but still not nearly as much as I’d prefer. Baby bump is bigger too! I had my ultrasound today and thankfully it looks like baby’s size is right on track, not super large like I was thinking! I too couldn’t stand coffee, but now it’s back in my life thank goodness. I started feeling what I thought was movement around 15/16 weeks. At 20 weeks now, I feel SO much movement. I’m surprised how much more I feel with this pregnancy and how much earlier it happened! Last one I didn’t feel anything until mid-20’s. But this kid NEVER stops moving! We’re not finding out the gender, but I’m excited to see what you’re having. Even though my pregnancy is totally different from my first, I’m predicting another boy for myself :)
Courtney says
LOL…this kid NEVER stops moving. I can TOTALLY relate!! And Lucas was quite active in the womb, too. ;)
I’m so impressed with people who choose not to find out the gender…I’m dyyyyying to know like, yesterday haha!
Hope all continues to go well with this pregnancy for you, Kristin!
Jenna says
Hi Courtney! Love these updates :) question…how long did it take you to get pregnant with Lucas and this baby? We are Ttc currently and just wondering! Thanks so much xo
Courtney says
Hey Jenna! With Lucas, it took us about 6 months. With this one, we had our miscarriage in July and then conceived again in September :)
KatieTX says
I am 21 weeks pregnant right now, and my baby boy is almost 14 months old. I am having another boy. I felt pretty much the same as my first pregnancy, but I was actually bigger the first time around! Baby was transverse with my first one, and head down already this time. Makes me much more comfortable. I was DYING to know what the gender was so we paid to have a sono at 18 weeks. It is so nice not having to buy anything and knowing the boys will be bffs. Hope you get well soon! Look forward to those baby kicks ;) They sneak up on you. I jump sometimes because I forget I am pregnant again, and I am like oh yeah! Nothing like a swift punch/kick to remind you! :)
ErikaMC says
I’m 17 weeks today! I started feeling this one at about 15.5 weeks. It didn’t feel as ‘fluttery’ as I remember my first one feeling but more thumb-like. I love it and wish I could feel it all day (after a miscarriage last year any reassurance is nice!).
I miss runny eggs!
Ruthie Hart says
Youre looking so cute!! I cant wait to find out what youre having! And yes second time around is so much harder to do the updates!
Rebecca says
You look great! I’m 15 weeks along with my first (due June 5th!) and have gone back and read all your updates from when you where pregnant with Lucas. The first trimester all I wanted was pizza, French fries and cheese. Now I want all the sweet carbs like pancakes and cinnamon roles. Thanks for posting and please keep the updates coming!
Jenn@Mark My Miles says
Oh my gosh, I was the same way. Days went by where I forgot I was pregnant with my second due to chasing the toddler and with the first, I counted every little kick!
Karissa says
I am 14.5 weeks right now and have the worst cold, too! I am so nasely (is that a word?!), stuffed up, and just feel bleh. I heard that when you are pregnant your immunity is down and since you cannot really take anything for it, it just kind of sucks and to tough through it. I am sure you are ready for the sickness to be overrrrrr.
Since this is my first, I love reading your pregnancy updates, both now and from when Lucas was born. It is a fun and crazy journey for sure :)
Jessica W says
I had issues with all of the prenatal vitamins I tried making me queasy until I found the rainbow light prenatal multivitamin and DHA softgel http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HCDTCG/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001HCDTCG&linkCode=as2&tag=warfieldfamil-20&linkId=ZZXZOTOBP37JNOMW Take one of each. I NEVER had issues with these but that is probably because they use plantbased DHA. I have been using it ever since and still love it.
Alyssa says
I’m 19 weeks with my second and it’s been a completely different pregnancy. I didn’t have a moment of sickness with my son but this time I was sick the whole first tri. I’m exhausted and workouts are at a minimum now, but I’m assuming that’s par for the course with a toddler/full time job/pregnancy. I miss wine, especially at the holidays, but not as much as I miss unlimited caffeine!! I need it so much now! I’ve felt a few definite kicks but for the most part the movement is more of the “hmmm, was that it, or just gas, or just my heartbeat, or just me breathing?” variety. I’m excited for more consistent movement!
Melissa @ For Love and Travel says
I’m so happy for you. I’ve been following your blog for years, and was sadden by your miscarriage. I too had two losses. We’ve struggled with Infertility for four years, and finally had our son in March (he was born 3 months early). He is our little miracle and is doing well. The Lord blessed us again with another baby, we are currently 12wks, and found out it’s another boy. The Lord blesses you at the right time and I am so excited to follow this pregnancy again with you. Cheers to many more blessings.
