So I guess 24 weeks pregnant would officially be considered 6 months, right? Does that just sound crazy to anyone else?!
Six months sounds so far along…but then at the same time, knowing there are still about 4 more left helps put things back into perspective. Baby is just over 24 weeks today and is about the length of an ear of corn or the size of a cantaloupe, depending on where you read.
And just for fun, here’s a little comparison to my 24th week with Lucas!
HERE’S WHAT BABY TOOTH HAS BEEN UP TO THIS WEEK:
- Baby is growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week.
- His body is filling out proportionally and he’ll soon start to plump up.
- His brain is growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop.
- His lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world.
- His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
AND HERE’S WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING WITH ME THIS PAST WEEK:
Weight gained: At my appointment last week, the doctor said I was up around 15-16lbs, having gained about 4 pounds since my last appointment 4 weeks prior to that. So at this point, I’ve been averaging about a pound a week.
Workouts: Great! I’m still averaging about 4-5 workouts per week, with a mix of mostly barre, strength, and circuit workouts (DVD’s or YouTube – many of the ones from this post!). I’m so thankful to still be feeling really good in terms of being able to move/workout. My sciatica pain has gotten muuuuch better, so I really don’t have anything hindering my abilities at this point…besides the big ol’ bump, of course.
At this point, I’ll just keep truckin’ along as long as I have the energy and will adjust my movements/exercises as needed!
Symptoms:
- Some tightening in the belly on and off, which is most likely Braxton Hicks contractions.
- Still feeling intense pain in the upper abdomen. My primary doc told me it’s likely my uterus pushing up into my diaphragm, but my OB told me that my uterus isn’t that big yet to be pushing up that far, so that it’s likely gastrointestinal. I’m not surprised (I’ve been dealing with this forever), but it’s just frustrating because it can get really painful and make it difficult to want to eat sometimes.
- Hunger on and off – I’ve had a few days recently where I could just not keep full!
- Still getting the itchy belly, but not nearly as bad as it was, thanks to my doctor recommending Eucerin lotion. I honestly felt relief almost immediately…it’s been a lifesaver!
Movement: Yes, ALL the time! And this past week, both Jay AND Lucas were able to feel them, which was awesome. I was actually sitting in a meeting on Tuesday and just staring at my belly as it popped up and down. So fun!
Food Aversions: Not really, although I’m not sad if I don’t wind up with a cup of coffee everyday.
Food Cravings: A lot of the same…red meat, graham crackers, yogurt, peanut butter, and chocolate.
Sleep: Not terrible. I’m still averaging 1-2 wakeups a night to pee, but other than that, I can still get comfortable pretty easily.
Stretch marks? None . But my spider veins have now also turned into varicose veins as well, and they can be a bit painful, unfortunately.
Miss Anything? Still missing wine. And I’ll likely be telling you that for the next 4 months. I’m also missing regular clothes, too.
Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week: Not much is sticking out, but it’s definitely been fun to be able to feel and see baby boy move more and more.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Mostly happy, but I’m ready to be done being pregnant. With Lucas, I absolutely LOVED pregnancy and everything about it. This time around? I’m just ready to get to the finish line. I was really surprised by this, considering it’s not a bad pregnancy and that I enjoyed it so much the first time around. But I think the fact that it’s getting harder to move around with Lucas contributes to this, along with the constant stomach discomfort. Either way, I’m not the type to constantly be complaining about pregnancy, because I am truly blessed to be experiencing it! I’m just ready for the end result.
I’ve also been trying to soak up all of my one on one time with this character, because soon enough that will change, and it still makes me incredibly sappy.
New Baby Items: We got this onesie from Lucas’s sitter, which I love and also ended up getting Lucas this t-shirt to go with it. <3
Looking Forward To: Decorating the nursery now that it’s painted…we’ve just got to transition the furniture from Lucas’s room to the new room, but can’t do that until we’ve got his other furniture refinished. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks!
Question for the Moms:
Did you enjoy your pregnancy? If you’re a mom of more than one, did you find you enjoyed one pregnancy more than the other?

Feeling the baby move is such a wonderful moment. I loved being pregnant, but have only been through the one pregnancy. I’ll be interested to see what a second pregnancy will be like in comparison.

I’m with you, girl. I felt lucky to be pregnant the second time and of course was willing to endure all of the things that came along, but I really didn’t enjoy it and was glad when it was over! I had a good second trimester but the first and third were HARD. Hang in there!
Angie says
I am 4 weeks pregnant wi my second son and feel the same way. I can’t wait for this to be over because although I feel good it’s exhausting and getting harder to keep up with my 3 year old. I also bought the same shirt and onesie for my boys! Nobody knows what we are having, we didn’t find out the first time but my husband wanted to know this time. I bugged him enough and he told me but I wish we were still being surprised!

High five- I missed wine the entire time with both pregnancies too! In fact, I remember asking David ‘do I have a problem because I, like, REALLY miss it.’ ;) He even sneaked sushi and a glass of wine into the hospital the night Kaitlyn was born- HA.
You make 6 months pregnant look so great!

This pregnancy for me is definitely different and I agree that it probably is the fact that I’m chasing a toddler around. I’m not quite ready for baby #2 yet to come because I want to get our finances a bit more in order and get all the bedroom’s setup for my son and baby #2. It’s definitely a different experience though. Food has not been appealing to me this time around, not because I feel suck, but stuff just doesn’t sound good. Also, I don’t have the desire to come home from work and make awesome meals like I did with my first. I think I’m going to use that Blue Apron coupon you provided to try to spice up our dinner situation!
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
Wow, you look really great in that shot! That does sound totally crazy to be 6 months along. I remember being so excited to be in the 3rd trimester, but I was like, wait, I still have HOW long to go?
I was one that did not enjoy pregnancy AT ALL. I felt so guilty for that too. I had the worst heartburn ever the whole time and extremely bad back pain that made it difficult to sit or sleep. I’m sorry this pregnancy isn’t anything like the first! It DOES end though. I just kept reminding myself of that when days got really hard. No one is pregnant forever!
Em @ Love A Latte says
Sorry for all the typos above. I’m blaming my phone!!

I had my baby in October, but I did not enjoy being pregnant. I didn’t have a hard pregnancy but I just wasn’t a huge fan, which was so different than what I thought! I definitely think having another little one to run after would contribute to not enjoying it as much! (I don’t have another one but if i did, I’d envision it was rough! lol)
Brianne says
I am so glad I am not the only one ready to be done! This is my 2nd and final pregnancy and I miss my regular clothes and energy. I have a very active 3 year old and work full time (2 days from home but still it’s work!) and of course keeping up with the household stuff makes me just tired. I just splurged and hired someone to deep clean my house the week before my due date. I don’t even feel bad bc who wants to clean baseboards and Windows 9 months prenant?! I’ll be 29 weeks this Sunday and I’m anxiously waiting to meet my 2nd daughter!
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
Congrats girl you are looking great! Hope the pregnancy continues to be easy-ish and this discomfort is minimal!
Jennifer says
You are seriously too cute!! I can totally see how being pregnant and having a toddler to chase/take care of would be challenging. A baby belly can get in the way for sure haha!
Katie says
Yes! I am 25ish weeks pregnant, and my 2 year old is making this pregnancy more challenging for sure. Giving her baths is very hard with the belly and having energy to run around with her is difficult, and that is what is making me ready to have the baby. Plus wine! I think I miss it more this time because I was drinking more, because motherhood makes you drink! :) Plus, I am usually so active and exercise a lot, but for whatever reason, when I get pregnant, I just don’t. So, I do miss that as well. I did spend more money on maternity clothes this time around, so I feel a little more put together, which is helpful. But, I am like you. I am so so thankful to be pregnant, and I love having another person inside me and feeling the kicks, but I am not one of those that love this experience. I cant even imagine those that have very hard pregnancies.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Having a second when you’re first is still quite small is hard for sure, lots of power naps when ever the opportunity arises!
Julie says
I LOVED being pregnant! But I felt great (for the most part – just a little bit of nausea & food aversions during 2nd tri & of course that period where you want to go to bed at 7:00!). I was only pregnant once so I didn’t have the experience of being pregnant w/ a toddler, but I can def see where that might be a dif ball game. ;)

I loved being pregnant with my first but was totally over it with my second. Both were easy pregnancies, but the second one was just different. I think not being able to rest as much as I wanted (because toddler), as well as just not being quite as exciting, made me just want to get to the end. However, I’m not much of a newborn person, so I did try to enjoy the relative peace of those last few months of pregnancy!
Amanda says
I had an extremely complicated pregnancy so unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy a second of it b/c I was constantly anxious and nervous. Our baby boy ended up being born extremely prematurely at 24 weeks and is currently in the NICU. I would give anything to have experienced a normal, healthy pregnancy at the end of which I could bring my baby home. Leaving my baby at the NICU everyday is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. As much as you want the end result to get here quickly, try to enjoy this pregnancy as much as possible. After all pregnancy looks good on you mama :)
Courtney says
Oh my gosh, Amanda I can’t even fathom the experience you’re going through. I’ll be sending many positive thoughts and prayers your way and I hope that your baby boy gets to leave the NICU soon. <3

You are such a gorgeous pregnant lady!! I rarely comment on blogs, but I thought I should ask if your doctor has taken a look at your gallbladder? I’m sure you have great medical care, just asking because my sister-in-law experienced the symptoms you’re describing during her pregnancy and it was due to gallstones, which apparently can be triggered by increases estrogen levels. Just a thought?? Hope you feel better!!
Courtney says
Thanks Tara! I’ve inquired about my gallbladder in the past but it never turned out to be the case…but I also wondered the same thing before!

I loved it when my oldest could feel the baby kick. He was only about 1.5 years old then, so he thought it was crazy and give me a weird look when he felt it.

I give you SO much props for working out while pregnant — and as often as you are! I have a feeling when I’m pregnant I’m going to use it as an excuse to just sloth it out for 9 months haha. But in reality I’m sure you just want to feel active and healthy, business as usual :)
Courtney says
My workouts were much less intense when I was pregnant with Lucas and I definitely notice a difference in how I feel! I, too, thought it would be an awesome excuse to just be lazy and eat whatever. ;) But it feels great to be able to move more this time around!
Annette Perkins says
You look so cute! That is so fun your boys could see/feel baby move. That’s such a special time!
My 2nd pregnancy was actually easier than my first, and to be honest it was such an easy pregnancy I didn’t mind it that much. Of course by the end I couldn’t wait to not be pregnant and meet our little girl, but I didn’t feel over it any sooner. Our 2nd is also much more chill so I wonder if that has anything to do with it? haha
Jennifer Strickland says
I had that same type pain you are describing when I was pregnant with my second. It was like a soreness almost. The Dr never could explain what it was. I had to lay down to get relief. I would lay in my car on my lunch break at work for a mid day break. It resolved after delivery, of course! Good luck, momma!
Grace says
Thanks for being so honest about the fun and not-so-fun aspects of pregnancy. It’s so helpful for those of us not yet pregnant!
