I still can’t believe that my “baby” is now THREE years old. Sometimes, it feels like it was just yesterday when he arrived.
Yesterday was honestly one of THE best days that I’ve had in a long time. Easily one of the best since Alex was born because, somehow, everything just fell into place perfectly.
The day started off early and we were super excited to show Lucas his birthday present. When we first asked him what he wanted, he responded with “a really big police car,” and continued to say that for a couple of days. We had already been thinking about getting him a ride-on car, so once he said that, it sealed the deal for us. (We bought this car, which had really great reviews on both Amazon and Walmart!)
So we had it waiting out front for him first thing in the morning…and as you can see, he was quite the happy camper!
We didn’t actually think it was going to be fully charged/ready for him in the morning since we waited until after 9pm the night before to even open the box and it said it might need up to 20-24 hours for the first charge.
Thankfully, it was ready come morning!
Seeing him so excited left us both smiling from ear to ear. <3
Shortly after Lucas got his present, my mom arrived to stay home with Alex so Jay and I could take Lucas out for the morning, just the three of us.
Our first stop was breakfast which was, at his request, pancakes from McDonalds. My parents have brought him a couple of times and he now loves the pancakes (I totally remember loving them as a kid too, can’t blame him!). With excitement like that, we couldn’t deny the kid McDonalds pancakes.
After our breakfast date, we hit up one of the local playgrounds and spent some time playing around.
It was a hot one, so we didn’t stay too long, but we still had a blast!
Once we got back home, we discovered that Alex hadn’t woken up the entire time my mom was there, so she had a rather easy morning. He slept for a little while longer still, so I took advantage and worked on finishing up Lucas’s birthday cake. Both my mom and Lucas were my helpers…Lucas mostly helped with eating the frosting at any chance he could get.
He first requested green frosting, then wanted chocolate…so we did both!
I used my favorite vanilla buttercream recipe for the green, then separated out the rest and my mom added some cocoa powder and chocolate syrup to make the chocolate. SO good!!
Eventually Alex woke up and somehow, we got incredibly lucky with a happy, HAPPY little man yesterday. He was like an entirely different baby! And Lucas was lovin’ on him big time. These two, I’ll tell ya…
Before it was time for Lucas’s nap, we headed back outside for more time in the big police car and a picnic lunch.
Then while he napped, we continued to get things ready for Lucas’s family party in the evening.
Lucas got spoiled with all sorts of trucks and diggers (he’s OBSESSED), and even a mini golf set.
He is quite the lucky kid. Heck, we’re all lucky in this crew. <3
We had dinner (I made my favorite BBQ Pulled Chicken recipe, but with pork and I also found this incredible potato salad which I highly recommend!), and then it was time for cake.
I’m pretty sure we ended up having to re-light the candle and sing at least five times, at the birthday boy’s request.
Happy birthday, my big boy!! <3
After dinner, we all headed outside for some more rides around in the police car and some baseball.
And even Alex (who is usually miserable by this time of the day/night) was awake, alert, and happy. I swear, the stars were aligned for us yesterday!
It really was an incredible day and I just loved getting to see Lucas have such a blast with everything AND everyone.
I still can’t get past the fact that I have a three year old…oh Lucas, you are growing up to be such an incredibly smart, funny, and outgoing little boy. Even if you have just recently mastered the art of a great tantrum (ohhhh, good lord), you are one amazing kid.
Happy Birthday to you, my sweet Lucas. We love you to the moon and back! <3

What a nice day! I have been wanting to schedule some one on one time with my 2.5 year old daughter. We have an 8 week old girl and although she loves her and always wants to touch and kiss her, she is starting to have the tantrums also. It doesn’t help that although the baby rarely cries, she needs to be held all day, even for naps, so I have no time for my older one alone. It is such a struggle! You guys get out a lot which I need to do also. You are doing great, I am jealous! :)
