On Tuesday night, I got the chance to spend a couple hours one on one with this handsome birthday boy!
Jay’s birthday was Tuesday (aka, I can officially call him old again for the next 6 months!), and my mother-in-law generously offered to stay at the house after the kiddos went to bed so we could head out for a couple of drinks and some dinner. YAY for some kid-free time awayyyy!
Unlike last year where I surprised him with friends and family, this year it was just the two of us. And that was a-okay by me. Truth be told, I feel like we’ve just been SO focused on the kids, house stuff, work, or really anything else BESIDES the whole being a married couple thing, that a little time alone was just what we needed.
We figured we’d stay close to home, plus the weather was really awesome, so we took a quick drive down the road to Junior’s Bar & Grill and grabbed a table out on the patio.
I couldn’t help but order a Nine Pin hard cider (which is actually made locally!), and the two of us had a great time enjoying our drinks while chatting a bit and catching up on all of the stuff that we neglect to do most days. : )
We came to find out that Tuesdays are $2.00 off burger days at Junior’s, which totally solidified my decision to get one because I already knew how good they are.
That right there was their house burger, which came with all sorts of goodies like fried onions, swiss cheese, chopped pickles, and a “secret sauce” that is apparently made up of mustard, mayo, jalapenos, and other stuff I can’t remember. All I know is that it was GOOD. So good.
After a couple of drinks and some food, we made our way back home and called it a night. It was a quick trip out, but sometimes that’s all you need to feel a little re-energized, right? Plus, nothing like breaking up the work week than an evening away!
Happy Thursday, everyone! Hope the week is treating you well so far. I’ll be back tomorrow with some fun facts AND a winner for the Balanced Body Labs giveaway!

Aww happy birthday, Jay! I agree- with kids so young a lot of time is focused on them. My youngest is only 2 months and I feel like we’re trapped in that kids all day every day deal for now. I know things will change but going from having evenings together with just one to now focusing on the baby is hard! Glad you guys got out just the two of you.

I haven’t had a hard cider in so long, but that sounds so good! Need to remedy that ASAP!
Looks like you guys had a great night out! HBD, Jay!

Totally agree, a few uninterrupted hours alone can be the best time spent. My husband and I go on lunch dates once a month. It’s fun to change it up and spend an hour talking without distractions.

My husband and I don’t have any kids yet but I always love when I get off work early during the week and we can go out for a mid-week date night. I have a lot of friends (and online friends) who have kids, I am not taking this time for granted that we can just focus on being a married couple because (hopefully) pretty soon things are going to change!

Happy birthday to Jay! I am so glad you two got out to celebrate, kid free! It’s so funny…my sister’s birthday is two months before her husband’s so he calls her “old” for those two months. Haha! ;) I hope you are having a great week! Xoxo

Happy Birthday Jay!! I know it’s fun to have big parties with friends, but sometimes celebrating with just you and your partner can be even better! Especially if it’s mid-week :)
Looks like you had a wonderful night out!

Aren’t date nights just the best? :) So nice to reconnect with your person, especially if adult beverages are involved!

Short date nights where you still get a full night’s sleep are the best in my opinion! Glad you guys had fun!
