As I sat down to write last night, I found myself in the mood to put together another one of my day in the life posts. Since I didn’t decide I wanted to write one up until yesterday evening, I didn’t really wind up taking too many photos of the morning and afternoon…buuut, since most of that is spent at my desk at work, you won’t be missing much. So here’s a look at my Wednesday!
5:15am – Alarm goes off. Hit snooze. As always.
5:42am – Wake up to my alarm again, suddenly realizing I snoozed through a couple other alarms without knowing it. Crap, decision time. If I get up now, I can quickly squeeze in my planned workout. Or, I can go back to sleep. I choose the latter.
6:15am – Alarm goes off again. This time I can’t really ignore it, so I’m up. Time to shower.
6:30am – Start to do makeup and hair. Didn’t wash the hair today so back into a pony it goes. Nice and easy.
6:50am – Hear Lucas screaming. Jay comes into the bathroom to alert me on what I already heard. I guess he’s up for the day! Jay gets him up and ready for the day while I finish getting ready.
7:05am – Greeted with kisses from Lucas and he “helps me” pick out an outfit and iron it (I chose a black maxi skirt and an older, grey 3/4 top from Gap outlet).
7:20am – Head out to the kitchen, can’t believe I’m actually already ready. Maybe I’ll be on time for once?! Hmmm, with all of this free time, maybe I’ll make myself a smoothie to bring to work!
7:45am – My MIL arrives to watch Lucas for the day (*I’m now working every other Wednesday from home and she watches him for us at the house on the opposite weeks.
7:50am – Ahh, shoot. I was supposed to leave 10 minutes ago…give my kisses and hugs, grab my lunch bag, smoothie cup, and coffee mug and I’m racing out the door.
8:15am – Arrive at work. Head to my desk, check emails, attend to the important stuff, and get things going for the day while I sip on my coffee and start to eat one of my bran muffins.
9:30am – Take my smoothie out from the fridge (it’s the Pear and Pineapple one from the Oster Versa 1100 Challenge!) and slowly sip on that throughout some of the morning.
Hooray for the first pic of the day!
12:45pm – Head to the kitchen to heat up my lunch. While yesterday’s certainly didn’t look as nice, I did wind up having leftovers of this stew that I made last week which is absolutely amazing.
I cannot wait to share it with you guys! Be on the lookout next week.
3:15pm – Leave work a little early so I can go get my weekly allergy shots. All 4 of ‘em.
4:00pm – By the time I get in for my shots and wait my mandatory half hour, I’m on my way home!
4:10pm – Arrive at home. Lucas is in the midst of his second nap, which means I still have a window for my missed workout. Woot! Since I know he could wake up anytime, I change my clothes super quick decide to do a PiYo workout since it’s less sweaty.
Seriously, love these PiYo workouts. Totally planning on doing them as soon as I finish my T25 gamma ones! And bonus, Lucas stayed asleep so I got my whole workout in while Cody hung out with me and watched.
4:55pm – Jay arrives home and Lucas wakes up from his nap almost simultaneously. Jay takes care of getting Lucas up so I can finish making the pizza dough I was working on.
5:30pm – Dinner time for Mr. Lucas! While he eats, I multi-task and peel some carrots. Of course, he needs one.
On the menu for Lucas? More Easy Cheesy Spinach Pasta, some avocado, and a few pear slices.
He polishes it all like a champ. I clean him up and his tray, but don’t have the desire to wash his dishes right now, so into the sink they go.
6:00pm – Play time! Stacking blocks is a new favorite activity over here these days.
6:45pm – Jay says he’s making himself a drink and asks if I’d like one. Heck yes I would! So I sip on my wine while Lucas reads People mag.
7:00pm – Tubby time!
I decide to multitask again and wind up giving myself a mini pedi while Lucas plays.
A few months ago, I picked up this Revlon Pedi-Expert at Target and you guys, the thing is amazing. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s disgusting because the amount of dead skin it gets rid of is unreal.
But I will tell you that the end result is SO worth it. Trust me…and much cheaper than a real pedicure! I finish up my little pedi while Jay gets Lucas in his PJ’s.
7:30pm – I give Lucas his bottle, read some stories, and put him to bed.
7:35pm – Dinner tiiiiime!
We make a pizza with our new favorite homemade dough, sauce, mozz and Parm cheese, and sliced turkey meatballs. I have a slice and a half plus a little side salad.
We sit and eat dinner while watching Jeopardy.
8:00pm – Realize that it’s now probably too late to go out and get the spray tan I was hoping to get (I’m in my friend Eileen’s wedding on Friday), so I nix that and start typing up this blog post. Chat with Jay on the couch as I work on writing this up, while also watching The Middle and The Goldbergs. So if there’s typos or anything else that doesn’t make sense in this post, you can blame that.
8:52pm – I’m still working on this post and finishing up my wine. Geez, this is taking way too long.
9:00pm – Clean up in the kitchen, get lunches ready for me and Lucas tomorrow, and snack on some chocolate.
9:30pm – Wash face, brush teeth, get ready for bed.
10:00pm – Finally. Bed time. Yessssss.

I love these kind of posts. My boy is only 7 weeks right now so I’m home on maternity leave, but I wonder how it’ll be when I’m back at work full time. You sure make it look doable! :)
Courtney says
Thanks, Em! It takes some time, that’s for sure, but you’ll eventually find your groove! For now, soak up ALL of that maternity leave :)
Brynn says
I really want to try Piyo- sounds like a great workout. Oh, the pizza sounds good too!! Ha!
Heather Brown says
I’m shocked you were able to get home and your mother in law left in such a short amount of time, lol. No matter how often I see my MIL or how fast I need to get out of the house, I can never avoid at least a 25 minute conversation! Sad that you aren’t working from home every Wednesday now :( Love these posts, though! Need to do one myself, actually.

Whew! I’m tired just reading about your day! Having a little one sure does keep you on your toes – not that I have any experience with that yet. ;)
These “day in the life” posts are pretty cool because they give us a look into the world of Courtney. It’s awesome that we get to see how a typical day goes for you, and how you manage to squeeze everything in. I also love that you’ve shared your outfit choice for the day … fashion inspiration for the rest of us! :)
I’m definitely going to look into that Revlon pedicure kit … while I love getting a pedicure as much as the next girl, I don’t like spending the money (and my feet are pretty ticklish!). If I could get the same results at home, that would be fabulous. All the walking, running, biking, etc. I do in my sneakers takes a toll on my feet. Thanks for the recommendation!
Courtney says
Haha, thanks Stacey! And YES, you must try that pedi kit. It’s amaaaazing. Gross, but amazing ;)
Ashley @ Sweet Carolina Belle says
Wow girl, just reading all of this makes me exhausted! We don’t have kids yet but you make juggling your daily routine plus a baby’s seem so easy! Love these type posts! Have a great Thursday!
Courtney says
Thanks Ashley, you too!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
These posts are so fun to read! You manage to get so much done and seem to just have a great attitude that you are going to roll with the punches. Have a great day!
Courtney says
Thanks, Lauren! I try my best, but some days are certainly better than others, haha :)
katelyn says
Do you need these for the workout?

I’ve only done two of the PiYo videos and haven’t needed them. BUT…you can always use paper plates if you found a workout that does require ’em. ;)
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
A little mid-week pedi? Genius. Especially since you can do it while Lucas has his bath.
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
I love reading these posts! I’m so excited to start PiYo after the baby gets here! It looks like so much fun! That is so awesome you can work from home every other Wednesday!
Chelsea@TableForOne says
Isn’t it amazing everything you can get done in one day! I always love these posts because when we stop to think about our days, they are full of so many good things. It’s great to remember those little things.
Ruthie Hart says
I LOVE day in the life posts!! Working mamas deserve a HUGE pat on the back, I don’t know how you do it (and work out and cook great meals, you rock). I just pinned that spinach pasta recipe…. Ford is SO picky lately and I need to find sneaky ways to add in veggies!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
“so I sip on my wine while Lucas reads People mag” bahahaha, that right there sounds like a FABULOUS evening! ;)
Katrina says
I have one of those pedicure kits too and they work so well! I was so afraid of what it would do to my skin at first though! It’s so gross how much dead skin I always have on my feet.
Joni says
I work full time and have a 12 month old, so my days look a lot like yours :) Especially the snoozing thing lol. But could you tell me where you got Lucas’s bowl?? My daughter is obsessed with all things panda!!
Courtney says
Haha, aww sure! It’s a Dr. Brown’s bowl, came in a 2-pack. Looks like it’s on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Browns-Designed-Nourish-Feeding/dp/B00CGF3XWY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1412261691&sr=8-2&keywords=dr.+brown%27s+bowl

so fun! that pizza dough is great. I’ve tried it myself a few times. And now I may have to make it again tonight!

I gotta give you some mad credit for writing a blog post while watching TV and drinking wine. My posts would be a hot mess if I tried to be that skilled : )
Carrie (This Fit Chick) says
Wow it takes you a while to drink wine, haha… how do you do it?! LOVE the pizza! That looks fab– what a busy day with Lucas!
Courtney says
Hahaha…that was my second glass ;)
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
So fun. I love reading these. And I love that you gave yourself a pedicure during bath-time. When I’m a mom one day, I’m going to be resourceful like that. :)
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Least you managed to squeeze in a well deserved glass of wine!
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
I NEED to try that pedi expert. Do you do it when your feet are wet or dry?
Courtney says
I like doing it after they’ve soaked for about 5-10 mins. I’ve done it with feet both wet and dry, but I think wet works a little bit better, in my opinion!
Alex says
Neat post. I really enjoy DITL posts to see how others prioritize and try to fit everything into 24 hours!!

I love these kinds of posts! But now I want wine and a People magazine! haha

I love these day in the life posts – I need to do one!
Kristin says
Thanks for sharing! I am a working mom of a 7 1/2 month old and I’m still trying to get my rhythm down for week days. I am going to search your recipes for these meals- they look great!
Chelsea @ Chelsea Eats Treats says
I love these posts!!! Our morning is almost exactly the same, only swap taking care of a baby for taking care of a dog. Ok, so that’s not the same at all, lol, but my first “workout alarm” goes off at 5:40, and every day I struggle with whether to snooze until 6:25 or get up and work out. I also leave for work around 7:45 (more like 7:55…oops) so it’s interesting to see how that timing is similar!
Danielle says
PiYo workouts are my favorite! Such a great compliment to my regular strength workouts! Sounds like quite the day…impressed at how you get it all done :)
Emily @ Sweets and Beets says
That stew looks delicious! Is that cilantro I see? :)
My gym just got PiYo — I can’t wait to try it!

Geez, lady! Do you get any down time? Hehe, I kid. I admire your awesome attitude even though you’re constantly on the go, and weekly shots sound crazy…I didn’t know you had to do that. And now I see why every working mom is mad about TGIF, lol! I’m more like TGINT (night-time) since I get to chill a bit :P
Fiona says
That pizza looks amazing!!! Love these day in the life posts! Just fun to see how everyone’s days are !!
Kristin says
Courtney- I’m a long time reader and love your blog- (found you through IOWAGIRLEATS) I especially love going back to you old posts to see what Lucas was up to a year ago as my little guy is almost exactly one year younger (July 29). I love your day in the life posts. Saw on your OCT 22 post last year that Lucas was sitting front facing in his car seat- did you guys make that decision because he’s so tall or did he hate sitting facing back. Our guy doesn’t care for the car seat and while mickey mouse dvd’s have certainly helped I just wondered if you were facing the same issue and decided to try turning Lucas around. Also, when did Lucas give up his second nap. I see in this post and your late Oct post he was still napping twice…. so is our little man and I can’t even wrap my head around him giving one up soon- he LOVES his naps! Thanks for writing posts like this and keeping your blog so real for other mommys to be encouraged by!
Courtney says
Thanks so much Kristin! We put Lucas front facing as a combination of him being very tall/uncomfortable, and also because he just hated sitting backwards. It got to the point where it really was unsafe for ME with him backwards, because I was constantly trying to check on him. Our pediatrician said it was ok, and I also felt comfortable with it, and things were SO much better once we made the change. As for the 2nd nap, that’s a really good question?! I’m sure I have it documented in one of his update posts, haha, but I’d guess that it was maybe around a year and a half? It wasn’t too bad of a transition for us, and has actually been pretty easy in terms of being able to schedule things, etc. Now he usually takes a good 2-3 hour nap anywhere between 11-3 so we can plan for that as needed. :)
