1. Ohh, you guys. I am TIRED. So tired. We’ve had a couple of rough nights of sleep over here with this smiley guy and it has officially caught up to me.
I think I really need to start taking advantage of this whole “sleep when the baby sleeps” thing that people talk about. Does it ever really work??
2. This is totally random, but does anyone ever go to put dishes away in their kitchen cabinets and wonder how in the world they stay up there with all that weight in them? Our dishes are freakin’ heavy! (I warned you it was random…).
3. I made the most delicious salad earlier this week (with a side of leftover quesadilla!) – spinach, chicken, carrots, strawberries, and avocado with balsamic vinaigrette. It had been quite a while since I made a salad but mmmmmm, it was GOOD.
4. My mother-in-law brought over a fresh baked apple pie earlier this week. Ummm, HECK YES!
Apple pie is one of those desserts that I never really choose first, but when I have it, it’s just so good.
5. I started drafting this post up about 2-1/2 hours ago and this is how far I’ve gotten. #distracted
6. Get this…I actually had time to paint my nails this week. Victory!!

7. Yesterday Lucas had a Halloween parade at his preschool where the kids were, obviously, supposed to be dressed up in their Halloween costumes. Well, guess who was the only kiddo in his class who refused to put on his costume…
Yep, that’d be my little one. He sure does like to beat to his own drum…but hey, he sure is happy doing his thang.
Rock on, little dude. You’re cooler than Marshall from Paw Patrol anyway.
8. As I was sitting typing up this post, Jay and I discovered a tick on Cody’s head. SO GROSS. It was in there pretty good so Jay had to run out and bring him to the vet to get rid of it. Thankfully, it was FREE (which is huge compared to the last time he had to go to the vet…). But now I’m just super grossed out about the tick…blech.
9. So you guys know how much I’m loving working with Usborne Books, and I have to tell you about an AMAZING party that I’m throwing next Thursday, November 3rd. It’s a Mystery Hostess party, which means that one lucky shopper from the party will end up winning ALL of the hostess rewards earned.
It could easily wind up being $100s in FREE books! And all you have to do to get entered is make a purchase from the party! If you want to check it out, here’s the event page – I’ll be running it from my STSL Facebook page! The more the merrier, so feel free to share with friends and family, too. It’s a great time to shop for holiday gifts!
10. Once again, we have very minimal plans this weekend, but I’m okay with it. And I’m also hoping that I get to sleep a little – fingers crossed.
Okay guys, for real, it’s time for bed. Let’s just hope Alex stays asleep at least for a little while…!I I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend ahead, whatever you may be doing!
Laura says
Alex’s smile is SO cute! Random question- is it snowing in the picture of Lucus outside?? We were supposed to see a few flurries in MA yesterday but we never did.
Courtney says
Ugh YES! Thankfully most of it is gone today but I was sooooo not ready for SNOW yet!!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
i hope alex sleeps well for you, too! no sleep is the worst haha william has been sleeping great, but i’m sure i’m jinxing it now lol
Brynn says
Both the salad and apple pie made me hungry, ha! I love avocado and strawberries on my salad, it’s such a delicious combo.

Sleeping when baby sleeps works! I didn’t start doing it until Mason was two and wished I had done it all along, Naps are wonderful!
I can see Mason refusing too lol. We are going as Paw Patrol. Mason gave us our assignments last month… I am Skye, Tim is Ryder, Owen is Marshal, and Mason is chase. A family affair this year lol.
Courtney says
I definitely need to get on the nap train!
And you guys are going to be SO adorable as the Paw Patrol family!!! I’ll be looking for pics on IG ;)
Jen says
I think about the weight of our dishes in our cabinets ALL THE TIME!! Every time I put one away I think it will be the time the cabinet gives out. You are not alone at all on that one :)
Amanda says
Yes! Me, too! I keep thinking it’s silly and that my fear is unfounded, but that *one* plate might be enough for it to say, “Enough! I’m done!” I’ve come close to Googling stories of it happening to someone, but I don’t want to add to my worry. Lol.
Courtney says
LOL I’m so glad I’m not the only one on this one!!
Stacey says
I do it too! Especially when I feel like it can be hard enough to hang a picture, but somehow the dishes stay up! haha

My little guy is six and he always refused to wear a costume until he turned five and wanted to be a pirate. It was always so hard to figure out something for him to wear at Halloween. He even wore his Jake and the Neverland Pirates pajamas to preschool for his Halloween costume one year. All the other kids had on these elaborate costumes and he was in pajamas:) He never liked anything over his clothes and that’s what most costumes do. This year he’s a construction worker….jeans, t-shirt, vest, tools, hardhat, done.
Courtney says
Haha YES! That’s what we did last year with a Melissa and Doug dress up construction worker set. I have a feeling I may be breaking that one out again for Monday….. ;)
Traci says
I think we have the same dinnerware set – Crate and Barrel?! If so, I totally know what you mean because those things are HEAVY. I really love the whole set, though.
That salad looks delicious – love the sweet and savory combo.
Too funny that Lucas boycotted his Halloween costume. :)
PS. I saw the comment about snow yesterday – awful! I’m in CT and we had freezing rain and some light flurries too.
Anisha says
The non-sleep game happened over here for us shortly after month 4 too… booooooooooo! I actually did take naps with Ajay on the weekends to help myself from feeling hungover (don’t you feel that way from lack of sleep?), and it helped a lot! Good luck momma and Alex! Just keep thinking to yourself.. some day you’re going to miss this… maybe ;)
Bethany @luluruns says
I hear you mama! My two month old has good nights and then not so good nights. His bad nights always come when I think we finally have a pattern down too ;) Hope you get some sleep soon! Oh and that apple pie looks amazing. I may have to whip one up in the near future.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
Alex looks like Lucas to me in that first photo. That nail color is so pretty.
Katrina says
Alex totally has your face shape in looking at the first smiley picture you posted of him! And I always wonder weird things like how the kitchen cabinets don’t come crashing down with the weight of the dishes. And every time I drive through a tunnel or on a bridge, I wonder the same thing. How do they know that things are safe??
Marie says
That’s so funny that you mentioned the dishes and cabinet! I have thought if that! We got rid of our heavy dishes though and got Corelle. They are so light. I feel for you with Alex; I hope he finds a rhythm soon. My kids are almost 9 now and my husband and I still remember how sleep deprived we were and how hard it was. People keep asking if we’ll have a third one (because it gets easier as you have more apparently) but we always so no…we still remember. Lol. I sound like I hate being a mother. Haha. Actually LOVE it. Just saying though, those first couple of years are hard!
Small Business Trends says
Hi Courtney,
Love the blog! I love the nail polish. Dark colors are always on trend in the fall :-)
Ruthie says
OMG Courtney! Every SINGLE day when I put dishes away I am tense and brace myself because I am convinced the whole cabinet is going to fall down on me…
Bethany says
Why have I never thought to put a blanket under the jumper?!?!
