New mamas out there – congrats to you! Surviving life with a newborn is definitely not something I’d write into the “easy” category of life experiences, so major props to you for being where you’re at. I have some fun stuff to share with you today, including an awesome giveaway at the end!
All moms (new/veteran/you name it) will always have their various challenges, and some will likely be different than others. But for nursing mamas, there are definitely some hurdles we have to tackle. One of them being…leaky boobs.
Sorry if that’s too TMI for ya, but it is what it is.
I can’t tell you how many times (especially with Lucas…this time I was more prepared) I woke up in the middle of the night or early morning, only to discover I had leaked all over the place. It’s definitely not glamorous, to say the least!
I had been purchasing disposable breast pads, but because I go through so many of them, I’ve also been trying to work on transitioning to some disposable and some washable ones, like these from bamboobies® .
P.S., how amazing is that brand name?!
They have ultra-thin pads for light leaking, which are adorably heart-shaped.
Then there’s also overnights for…well…overnight.
You can see the difference in the thickness of them!
bamboobies® also has a number of other products to support a variety of pregnancy and new mom breastfeeding needs, and one that I would absolutely recommend to any new breastfeeding mom is nipple balm.
In those first few weeks, your “girls” are going to feel like they’ve never felt before. And it’s not going to be fun. It will be sore. Even if you’ve breastfed before! Now that we’re three months in, things have definitely gotten SO much easier, but I practically lived off this stuff for at least the first 6 weeks. Whew!
So most of the time, I really do love breastfeeding. But the one thing that’s always left me curious is…how the heck do I know how much he’s drinking?! Sure, I can get an idea from when I pump, but they always say that babies are more efficient at getting milk than a pump is, so I never really know.
That’s why I was so intrigued when I was introduced to the momsense Smart Breastfeeding Meter.
Made by moms, for moms, it informs moms how much breast milk their baby nursed by providing real-time data and reports.
When it first arrived, it was pretty simple to set up. You just download the app on your smartphone, put your phone on airplane mode, plug in the headphones, place the monitor on your baby, and start nursing.
In full disclosure, I had a bit of a tough time getting it to work at first! I’m fairly certain that it was mostly due to user error (whoops), but you do need to make sure that the monitor is placed on a very specific spot on your baby’s jawline.
In the few times I’ve used it while nursing Alex, I found it so cool to be able to really hear him swallowing. It’s such a neat, unique experience because you hear it SO well! I do think that I need to practice using it a little better though because I’m not sure that the meter is giving me a truly accurate amount of how much he’s drinking (then again, I guess I’ll never truly know, right?). But I love the concept of it so I’m going to keep giving it a try!
Want to see me make a fool of myself and explain it a little better in person? Well then feel free to check out the Facebook Live video that I did earlier. ;)
Finally, I have ONE more fun service to share with you guys today, called LE TOTE.
Long time readers may remember when I tried LE TOTE in the past (if not, you can check out THIS POST for all the details!). LE TOTE is a fashion rental service perfect for work, weekend and everything in between.
You receive a personalized box of clothing and accessories that you can wear for as long as you want. When you’re done with it, you can return and repeat all month! It could be a great option for moms who are heading back to work and maybe don’t have much time to shop. Or even for SAHM’s who might want to try wearing something else than the beloved yoga pants when meeting up with other parents for a play date.
Regardless of what category you fall into, I think that all moms would really love checking out the service and seeing what they have to offer!
