Well I think it’s safe to say that this past weekend totally made up for our lame Labor Day weekend. Talk about a GREAT time!!
Saturday started out nice and chill, complete with some Kodiak Cakes for all for breakfast.
Jay had a big “yard maintenance” day planned (him and a couple neighbors rented an aerator for whatever all of that jazz does + mowing and all that) so the boys and I took a quick trip to the post office and enjoyed the rest of the morning and early afternoon alternating between inside and out.
During Alex’s nap, I snuck in a quick upper body workout while Lucas played with his toys in the basement; it was only about 20-25 minutes, but it’s a good one and better than nothing! I’m still working on hoppin’ back on that workout train…
A little later in the afternoon, I was able to convince Jay to take a quick reprieve from the yard work so we could enjoy a couple of hours over at the local fair!
The day prior, I had been driving by with Lucas, so as soon as he spotted the rides, it was basically all he talked about until we went. ; )
My parents were nearby, too, so they met up with us and surprised the kiddos which was fun!
There was really only one ride that Alex could go on, but as you can see, that’s apparently all he needed.
These kids of mine… <3 <3
Lucas enjoyed quite a few of the rides, but was a bit nervous about going on the Ferris wheel (since it went “way too fast”), so I managed to convince him to go with me.
And it worked!
Let’s be honest, though. He wasn’t the only nervous one…fair rides, especially, make me super nervous. Eeeek.
But we survived, woo hoo!
And we finished off our trip to the fair with a nice, big ol’ stereotypical fried dough to share.
It was a great day, indeed!
Sunday started off nice and chill, once again, and even Cody got some lovin’ from the boys.
For those of you who have asked, YES! Cody is still around, likely either fighting for attention from adults or running away from attention from kiddos. But they’ve actually both been getting a LOT better with petting “gentle” with Cody, so he doesn’t seem quite as scared for his life when they enter a room.
Sunday morning also included a fun little trip over to Flight Trampoline Park in Albany!
A couple of our neighbors have been going the past few weeks since they have a special hour on weekends just for the “little” kids. So we decided to join them for some fun!
Aaaaaand, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that we’ll be back.
The boys LOVED it (especially Lucas, talk about a GREAT way to tire them out!).
We came back home, had some lunch and played for a bit before Alex went down for a nap. Unfortunately, he woke up about 40 minutes later, and knowing he was likely still tired, I rocked with him to see if he’d fall back to sleep. Much to my surprise, he DID. And we got to cuddle and snuggle for a good hour and half, and I will tell you that I was definitely NOT hating it.
Lucas was never much of a snuggler but Alex has his moments; and a moment (errr, 90 of ‘em) like this has never happened for this mama. Ohhhh, those snuggles (!!!!) <3 <3 <3
After nap time, we enjoyed a walk outside and then finally made the trip I’ve been waiting weeks for…
A visit to The Snowman for their new, limited edition Cider Belly Donut Sundae!
A warm cider donut, vanilla soft serve, globs of caramel, whipped cream…ohhhhh, it was everything I’d dreamed it would be.
And even though they didn’t get enormously sized sundaes, both boys also got to enjoy their soft serve, too.
By the time we got back, we played a bit and fed them a couple of “hardy” snacks before bed (since dinner = ice cream). And now I’m finishing typing up this post while admiring our new string lights that we finally got put up out on the back deck! Sure, it’s almost mid-September, but better late than never, right?
I love how cozy they are!
So that’s a wrap of OUR weekend…how was yours? Hopefully it was a great one : ) And if you’ve been at all in the path of Irma, we’ve definitely been keeping a watch out up here and are keeping all of you in our thoughts. <3

Love Alex’s tongue sticking out. So cute! I also have to thank you for introducing me to Jessica Smith’s youtube channel. I’ve done numerous of hers through pregnancy and now and even when I think they won’t hurt, they do!

This sounds like a perfect weekend! I’m glad the boys had so much fun at the fair. And your cider donut sundae sounds like one of the best things I could ever eat. Somewhere near us needs to make something like that…. My weekend was great, too. It was our last weekend in California so we spent the majority of it laying out in the sun, spending time with family, and drinking good wine before we flew back to Michigan. Have a great Monday!

Gosh Alex is so chunky and adorable!
I wanted to share this article on trampoline parks. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons does not recommend trampoline use before 6 years of age. It is SO easy for a little one to break their bones. I work for a Children’s hospital and it sees a lot of injuries in little ones, often serious, from these trampoline parks as they grow in popularity. Just wanted to share as I never knew this before working here!
