Every once in a while, we seem to get really lucky with a weekend where everything just sort of jives. The schedules flow smoothly, the kids are happy, Jay and I actually get to SEE each other (as opposed to us alternating errands in order to get done whatever we need to get done)…and this past weekend was one of ‘em.
Granted, it did get off to a bit of an unexpected start…as I mentioned on Friday, Jay and I were planning on a date night out. But, unfortunately, when we went to pick up the boys at daycare, they both just seemed run down, cranky, and not quite themselves. We decided we just didn’t feel right leaving them, so we cancelled plans and cooked up one of our Blue Apron meals at home instead.
While some of us ran around with no pants and went to bed nice and early. ; )
On Saturday, the boys both woke up in much better spirits, and after a quiet morning and nap time for Alex, we headed up to Saratoga Lake for the afternoon with some of our favorite cousins for a last-minute get-together!
The boys both had a blast playing in the new sand that was recently added to the little beach.
And playing in the yard.
And playing fetch.
And playing with cousins <3
And swinging on the swings.
All while also enjoying a few adult beverages, of course. Oh, sweet summertime.
We never did wind up going out on a boat ride, but we did have some fun on the dock feeding the fish.
This kid. Cracks me up and ALWAYS keeping us on our toes.
We all ended up contributing some snacks to have for the day, with ours being a caramelized onion dip + beer bread (all made by Jay, I can take zero credit for that one!).
We ordered some pizzas for dinner.
And even had some sweet treats for dessert, courtesy of Mal (aka, baker + chili extraordinaire…I keep telling her she needs to guest post again!).
It really was a great day, and I think we all left that evening feeling quite happy and grateful.
On Sunday, I wound up getting up a bit early to try and squeeze in a workout before anyone else was up…
Of course, this is how that panned out.
But it was fine, since he usually does a pretty good job of keeping himself occupied now (since he knows that mommy’s exercise time is her “healthy” time, haha!).
A little while later that morning, we decided to make Lucas’s day by bringing him and Alex out for a round of mini golf (which he’d been asking for constantly in the days prior).
I guess you could say we were feeling a little confident after our parenting win the day before(!), and for the most part it went fairly smooth. Although the last few holes did get a little dicey since Alex was no longer interested in being in the stroller.
But we made it work! And we even stopped at McDonald’s on our way home for french fries just because we all wanted some.
Once we got home, we did quick lunches, Alex went down for a nap, and I ran out to take care of the weekly grocery shop while Lucas and Jay hung out at home. I usually wind up having to take one of the kids with me for groceries, so it was quite nice to be able to go solo.
And once Alex was up from his nap, we headed over to my parents’ house for a little visit and dinner. My brother was also there with one of his dogs, and surprisingly enough, Lucas actually got close enough to him to pet him and play fetch with him (he’s usually terrified of most dogs).
Alex had a great time playing with some of my old toys <3
And mom cooked us a delicious and simple summer dinner: cheeseburgers, pasta salad, and corn on the cob.
Summer, please don’t ever leave, mmmkay??
So how about you guys?? How was your weekend? Are you ready for fall yet? Or still hanging on tight to summer (like me)?

You are both such great parents! I can’t WAIT for summer to end! It’s far too hot in my area and our electricity bill is through the roof! Da roof! Da roof is on fiyah!

This sounds like a perfect weekend! That family picture of you all from Saturday is so nice. And the caramelized onion deep and beer bread looks DELICIOUS! I want some of that! Although I love the carefree aspect of summer, I am so ready for fall. It has always been my favorite season. There is nothing I love more than wearing a big sweater and going to the cider mill for hard cider and fresh donuts! I am also really especially looking forward to this fall, since my wedding is in October! Have a great day. :)

That sounds like such a fun weekend. McDonald’s French fries are the BEST! I haven’t had them in ages – I may have to change that after seeing your post.

Hooray for a parenting win weekend! Mine was a healthy mix of being out and about and having some much-needed couch time after several busy weekends. Also, BRING ON THE FALL. I am so ready to say goodbye to summer!
