Lucas gives the weekend two thumbs up. How was YOUR weekend?
We didn’t do a whole lot on Friday night or Saturday except for some stuff around the house. Jay mowed the lawn in the morning, me and the kiddos went for a walk and hung out in the yard, and then we all just sort of chilled the rest of the day.
On Sunday morning, my parents stopped by and offered to take Lucas out for some breakfast, so they had fun doing that while Jay and I enjoyed some quiet time (since Alex was still sleeping!).
Later in the morning, I left all the boys at home and happily ventured out for a SOLO trip to Target. I was originally going to get a pedicure but the place was closed until later in the afternoon (go figure), so instead, I slowly browsed through the aisles of Target without having to worry about a thing. It truly was amazing (first time in the last five weeks).
When I got back, I put away the groceries (the majority of what I needed to buy) and also went ahead and organized my freezer stash of milk with a new little bin that I picked up while I was out. (And for those interested, I use these storage bags for storing milk – I’ve found they work best for me).
After a quick lunch, we opted to have Lucas skip his nap so we could head over to my parents’ house to enjoy an afternoon at the pool. And for the first time this summer, I finally got the chance to go in!
Me and my buddy had all sorts of fun swimming and I finally convinced him to jump off the edge to me…first time this season he’d do it for someone!
And then, of course, I got to hang out with this handsome guy, too. <3
Since Lucas hadn’t napped and was getting a bit antsy, and Alex was getting quite fussy as evening drew closer, we opted for an early dinner with my parents before heading home. Burgers on the grill and an AMAZING black bean salad.
I swear, I could eat that stuff every day.
We also had some fun looking at old photos since it seems like a lot of people (especially many of you on Instagram!) seem to think that Alex looks quite a bit like me. So here’s little me…
What do ya think?
I think I’d have to agree, I definitely see at least a little of his mama in him. <3
Right now, it’s Sunday night as I type this up…both kiddos are in bed, Jay and I are wiped, and I think we’re gonna celebrate #nationalicecreamday the right way before crashing in bed.
Hope all of you guys had a great weekend and have an awesome week ahead!

Courtney, I’d love to know your system for freezing milk. Just had my little girl on Thursday and would like to begin freezing milk as well. Looks like you put it in ziplock baggies?

Congratulations on your baby girl, Jenna! I actually use these storage bags from Medela:

I’ve used other brands in the past but found that these just work the best for me. I typically pump in the morning after Alex’s first feeding (into bottles) then the next day (or later that day) label the bags, pour in the milk, and put in the freezer! Let me know if you have any other questions (or feel free to email me, too!) :)

Alex definitely looks like you, but I think Lucas does, too. The black bean salad looks delicious, have you shared the recipe before? I’d love to snag it!

Now that grandpa shaved Alex looks very much like him… ;-)

Do you have a recipe for the black bean salad?! It looks so yummy!
Kaitlyn says
Ahhh, nothing like weekends spent poolside. I did the same thing! :) Also, that black bean salad looks amazing!

Such the perfect weekend to be in the water! Love the shot of L jumping to you. And yes, can totally see the similarities between your and Alex’s baby pics! My bff has two boys (1.5 and 3 months) and while the first looks entirely like her hubby, the second has more of her in him as well!

So fun that your parents have a great pool!! What a fun weekend! Glad you were able to enjoy yourself at Target…it’s the little things!

Another request for black bean salad recipe – it looks delicious!

I saw a tip on pinterest to use a empty cardboard soda pack to hold your frozen milk upright in the freezer. It is the perfect width and I can shove so many bags of milk in it!

It’s hard to tell in your picture if you do this or not, but I freeze my bags flat first, usually laying on a frozen pizza box ? Then once it’s frozen, stack them vertically in a gallon size freezer bag. If you freeze them flat you can store more. I can store about 11-12 5 oz bags in a gallon size bag. I refer to them as my “milk bricks!”

You & Alex are definitely twinsies!! :)
