For “date night” tonight, Jay and I decided to keep things low-key, since we have a couple of celebratory dinners coming up this week! 😀 I’ve had a gift certificate for a while now to a restaurant called LT’s Grill; neither of us had tried before, so we figured we’d go check it out.
When we first arrived, we noticed their awesome outdoor patio, which would have been perfect if it was about 10 degrees warmer (wimp, yes that’s me). We LOVE eating “al fresco”, so I’m sure we’ll be back to try it when it’s a little warmer.
LT’s Grill is a family restaurant, best known for their chicken, ribs, steak, and seafood. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and the staff very friendly. They offer a number of daily specials, and have also recently added a fresh salad bar to the restaurant (which was right up MY alley!;) )
I started off with a glass of Chardonnay. It was pretty good, considering I don’t usually order it when I’m out.
For dinner, I decided the salad bar definitely had to be a part of my dinner. On their menu, they have the “Southern Belle” where you can make your salad however you like, and then it gets topped with a freshly grilled piece of chicken. They also offer another version of this with pulled pork, called the “Pork & Greens”.
The salad bar also included their fresh homemade soup of the day, which today was Cream of Mushroom. Normally, this would not be a soup I would order, but since it was included I decided to give it a try.
I did a pretty sloppy job pouring it in there, didn’t I? 😉 It photographed pretty terribly, but this soup was DELICIOUS! Even the hubby enjoyed it, who would never ever go for something with mushrooms! I probably had about 1/3 of this little cup.
The salad bar was impressive! There was a nice mix of fresh veggies, some various salads, and toppings.
Here’s my plate “pre-chicken”, with it waiting patiently in the background to be added 🙂
My salad included romaine, cukes, grape tomatoes, beets, chickpeas, red onions, a sprinkle of cheese, dried cranberries, and some weird tasting carrots that I actually ended up putting to the side. (They were spicy?!?) I topped it all with lots of balsamic vinegar and a drizzle of EVOO.
All dressed up and ready to go! 😀
After seeing a plate of fresh homemade cornbread pass our table, I convinced Jay that we also needed some. 😉
This stuff was DELISH! Just the perfect hint of sweetness to it! I ended up eating 2 out of the 3 pieces, since Jay had this sandwich to tackle.
I’m definitely a BIG fan of pulled pork, so Jay let me try a bite. This did not disappoint! It was A-MAZING! 🙂
As we were getting ready with our bill, I soon realized that I was not as discreet as I had hoped when it came to snapping some photos at the salad bar!…
Man: “So, do you always take pictures of your food?”
Man: (laughing) “Only spies take pictures like that!”
Me: “Ohh, umm, well actually I write a blog….”
Hahaha, oh man! Well, it turns out that the “man” was actually the owner, LJ. He was SO nice! We learned how the restaurant is very family oriented, as he pointed out to us numerous family members who were currently working or roaming around through the dining room. It was very obvious the pride that LJ takes in the food, the service, and the welcoming family-friendly atmosphere of the restaurant. It’s not very often you get to sit and chat with the owner of a dining establishment, so we both felt it was a really nice way to end our dinner! 🙂 Thanks LJ!
After dinner, Jay and I had a couple errands to run, one of which was a trip to Barnes & Noble. I’ve had a gift card since Christmas, and since I FINALLY finished my book that I’ve been reading today (YAY!), I wanted something new to read, and I knew what I wanted!
“The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite”. I had previously read some reviews of this book, and found it VERY interesting! I often fall victim to the inability to stop eating when I’m actually already full…case in point:
Our night out concluded with a sweet treat from the Snowman! Tonight, I opted for the vanilla “Only 8 Frozen Yogurt” with rainbow sprinkles. The “Only 8” is definitely a healthier option than regular soft serve, and most of the flavors that are available are pretty good. (Some leave a funky after-taste). However, in the end, I think I started to get sick of the flavor, when I was really craving the vanilla & orange twist in Jay’s hand. 😉 Yet, I still finished the whole thing…was I hungry? Nope, not really! So, right now I’m pretty stuffed. Oooof…
So yeah, I’m really psyched to start that book tomorrow 🙂
Do you ever fall victim to overeating? If so, how do you handle it?
