Recovering from the Stomach Bug & Fabletics Favorites

Oh man, guys. It’s been quite. a. week.

With Lucas being sick over the weekend, we’re now wondering if maybe he did have something stomach related because I got hit with the stomach bug Monday night. WOW. It has been a long time since something really knocked me on my rear like that, but I was completely down for the count. Thank goodness I have a husband who can step in and handle everything while I was holed up in our bedroom/bathroom. And thank goodness I had a cuddle buddy checking in on me all day.

Yeah, stomach bugs are no joke. I finally started feeling a bit more human yesterday and managed to keep down a couple of pieces of toast. Other than that, I’ve been sipping on a lot of water, lemon-lime Gatorade, and ginger ale.

Unfortunately, one of the bigger bummers of this whole thing is that the last food I ate before getting sick was this AMAZING chili and skillet cornbread (I made it Sunday but we had leftovers again on Monday)…

chili and cornbread

Now? I can’t even look at either of them. And of all things! Cornbread?! Let’s hope that mental roadblock passes quickly, because a life without cornbread is not a life I want to live. Winking smile

But really, I’ve got to get you guys that chili recipe ASAP. Just as soon as I can stand to look at it again. Because it was soooo. freakin. good.

So switching gears a bit, I figured today would be as good a day as any to share some of my latest Fabletics pieces that I got and am totally loving. I know I mentioned last month that I was digging them, but I never really shared any of my goods!

Most recently, I purchased the Kingston Pullover in cranberry and I seriously just. love. it.

Please ignore the no makeup and messy hair look – it was a work from home, still recovering from the stomach bug day.

I also FINALLY caved on the puffer vest look and got their Fenway Vest in dark grey, and I’m so glad that I did! I love how it’s semi-fitted, as not to make me look to much like a big grey marshmallow.

Last month, I was also generously gifted a couple of pieces from Fabletics, including their Salar Legging in charcoal and the Astoria Shrug in black (Thank you, Fabletics!!). Let me just tell you guys…I am absolutely ob-sessed with both of these pieces. I would have shown you the shrug on, but I wore it recently and it’s in the wash…oops.

IMG_9367astoria

But the leggings are great and have been worn both for a workout and with a casual outfit. Very versatile!

And finally, there are two other pieces that I purchased back in October (I know, I can’t believe we haven’t talked about this yet?!). The first is the Salar Capri Fold-Over which I just loooooove. The fit is so cozy, and I love how thick the fold-over fabric is.

Also please notice Lucas in these pics. He had me cracking up as he ran around me in circles, through my legs, and back and forth between the sides of the bed. Yes, my plan was that he would still be napping while I did this but, well, we obviously can’t always plan for that.

But anywho…so the last piece I have to share is the Fremont Tank which I got in mulberry.

IMG_9373IMG_9374IMG_9376

I like this tank and the fabric is very comfy, but I was a little disappointed when I noticed that the removable cups that come in the bra top were permanently indented, and I missed the 30 days to exchange it, but that’s on me. Other than that, I have had nothing but positive experiences with Fabletics and their apparel. It is so freakin’ cute AND comfortable, to boot. If you guys haven’t tried them out yet, I’d highly recommend them!

Alright my friends, I’m signing off for today. Hope you’re all having a great week! It’s alllmoooooost Friday. Winking smile

Weekend Highlights {1/20}

Hey guys! Happy Monday! What’s new and exciting? Everyone have a good weekend? Unfortunately, mine wasn’t the greatest since that stomach thing I mentioned on Friday decided to stick around with me for most of it. I never got physically sick, but man did I feel awful. Super nauseous, no energy, just overall blah feeling. The only thing that sounded even slightly appetizing to eat was carbs with butter, which is literally all I ate on Friday…

  • Breakfast: Toast with butter
  • Lunch: English muffin with butter
  • Snack: Graham crackers (no butter, but a little peanut butter)
  • Dinner: Bagel toasted with butter

Fun, right?

I was able to add a little more variety on Saturday, and by Sunday I was feeling almost normal. I did enjoy a few ginger ale’s during the weekend though and man, did they taste good.

Luckily, I had my two favorite boys around to keep me company. Smile

In an attempt to do something with myself on Saturday, rather than just lay on the couch some more, I decided to get started on making my first batch of baby food.

homemade sweet potato baby food

I’ve been using the Wholesome Baby Food website as a resource, and it’s totally awesome. I would highly recommend it for anyone who’s interested in making their own baby food. On Saturday I made sweet potatoes (35oz. worth out of 3 large ones!), and on Sunday I made peas and apples.

If you guys are interested in some more detail about the baby food making let me know! I’d be happy to put a post together for the Baby page. Smile

After finishing up the food for the babe, I also made a batch of No Bake Energy Bites (I used this recipe I found on Pinterest) and they turned out SO good. I’m so excited to have these to snack on during the week!

Saturday also included a fun little package I received in the mail from Van’s Natural Foods. I don’t know about you guys, but I actually never realized that they made more than just waffles (I’ve long been a fan of those!), so I was excited to see that they have more to offer.

Jay and I dug into the BBQ multigrain chips this weekend and they were GOOD.

Sunday morning, we all slept in a little bit (7:45am – WOO HOO!) and had fun hangin’ in our PJ’s.

I took care of the grocery shopping later in the morning, and also made sure I picked up all of the ingredients for us to make Kristen’s recipe for Ben’s Beef Stew. I first saw her post about it on Instagram a couple of weeks (months?) ago, and once I showed it to Jay he was alllll about making it.

We served the stew over some mashed potatoes which were made completely by Jay (aka, “Jay’s Garlic Parm Mashed Potatoes”). When I asked him to share his recipe (because they were THAT good) this is what he told me…

Jay’s Garlic Parm Mashed Potatoes

  • “3 and a baby potatoes” (haha, this is sort our little joke…we really did have 3 regular + 1 baby potato which we called the Lucas potato)
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-2 tbsp butter, softened
  • ~3 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 light sour cream
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup of milk (just add to make your desired creaminess/consistency)
  • salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste

Peel and cube potatoes into chunks. Place in pot, cover with water and a good amount of salt. Boil for ~15 minutes or until tender. Drain potatoes, throw in a bowl, add remaining ingredients and mix together with an electric mixer (or mash by hand) until you get desired consistency.

This meal was absolutely AMAZING. Especially since the majority of my food intake all weekend basically consisted of toasted carbs. The tummy was still a little off after we finished dinner, but it was worth it.

The two of us enjoyed our dinner while we took turns feeding a certain someone his dinner, too.

lucas dinner

Ohh, how I love family dinner time.

Once Mr. Lucas went to bed (we are officially in the crib! yippeeeeee!!) Jay and I took care of making lunches for today, then relaxed on the couch and watched some football before calling it a night.

So yeah, it wasn’t the greatest weekend in terms of my health, but it still wasn’t too shabby! Smile

How was your weekend? Do anything fun? Cook or bake anything good?

A Case of the Queasies

Alright, so yesterday was just not a super day. I had a hard time sleeping the night before and wound up getting struck with some pretty crappy case of the queasies. And to think I was out of the clear at almost 22 weeks along!

I mean hey, it happens. But it just had me feeling pretty BLAH yesterday, if ya know what I mean. I wound up switching my alarm and nixed the workout I had planned for the morning, knowing full well I wouldn’t have the stamina for any sort of extra exertion. As far as food, it was tough because I was hungry but the thought of most things made me queasy.

So I stuck with something simple and prepared a bowl of cereal + a mug of tea (using one of the tea bags from this trimester’s bump bundle).

Quaker Oatmeal Squares, Multigrain Cheerios, bananas, blueberries, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

My hunger held off for a few hours but I needed a little something before lunch. At this point, I almost always wind up having some sort of snack with peanut butter, but believe it or not, the thought of peanut butter right now is just sounding SO unappealing. I’ll tell ya…this pregnancy stuff is craaaaazy sometimes.

So instead, I had some cat cookies that I packed, and they seriously tasted great.

IMG_1606

I had to run out on my lunch hour so by the time I got back I was definitely hungry again. I had packed a random whole wheat roll in the morning, just in case I didn’t think I could stomach anything else. But by the time I got back to the office, someone had heated up their lunch – which reminded me of something maybe like chili? – which immediately sparked my desire to eat the lunch of leftovers I brought.

IMG_1608

So I ate my leftover cheeseburger casserole + a diet ginger ale on the side…no maraschino cherry juice this timeWinking smile

By the time I got home from work, I was just feeling wiped. I literally changed into my cozies and parked it on the couch under my blanket for the rest of the evening. Jay and I had originally planned on going out to do some glider shopping, but we decided to hold off on that until tonight.

I had no desire to get up to even make us dinner, but I’m very lucky that I have a man who a) can manage a meal on his own and ate leftovers, and b) prepared exactly what I said I was craving and delivered it right to me on the couch. I’ll tell ya, he is a keeper.

IMG_1611

We had been watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the Food Network, which I’m thinking may have sparked my craving for a BLT. Not sure if that’s exactly it, but I wanted one in a bad way. So Jay delivered, grilling the bread instead of toasting (less cuts on the roof of the mouth!) and added a slice of provolone cheese. It totally hit the spot.

After dinner, I wound up lasting a couple more hours on the couch before calling it a night, but I had my Cody curled up with me almost the whole time.

IMG_1612

I think he was making sure his momma and little brother were doing okay…then again, let’s get real. He just loves this blanket as much as I do. ;)

THANKFULLY, I am feeling much better today, although the queasies come and go, and I was even able to get up for a 30-minute strength workout. The thought of peanut butter and coffee still make my stomach turn today (so weird!), so breakfast is going to be a yogurt with fruit and granola + tea.

Not What We Had Planned…

Well my Saturday certainly hasn’t started off as I planned…both hubby and I are sick with a stomach bug.

IMG_6630

I hadn’t really felt 100% yesterday, but just kind of attributed it to extra food consumption from the past couple days. Apparently that wasn’t the case. Whatever it is that we have, it had us both up half the night. Yuck! Thankfully, my mom dropped off some ginger ale, so we’re now sipping on that.

Seriously, what is it about ginger ale when you’re sick? It tastes absolutely incredible right now.

IMG_6628

Hopefully I’ll be able to muster up some energy to make something to eat soon. Toast is always a good option, so we’ll see.

Cody also isn’t a fan of our “bug” because he’s not getting the attention he wants…so he continues to attack the tree while neither of us have the energy to stop him. I’ll tell ya…he’s no dummy! ;)

IMG_6629

I actually had a dinner date with my girls planned for tonight, but unfortunately that’s not happenin’. Luckily, they’re fantastic enough to reschedule for another time when I’m feeling better. Thanks girls!

For now, it’s time to lay back down on the couch, watch some TV, and sip on my ginger ale. Hopefully you’re all having a better Saturday than I am! haha ;)

Question for the Day:

Do you have certain things that you crave when you’re sick? Foods? Drinks? Movies?
