Fun Facts Friday {9/26}

1. Last night was a girls’ night out!

photo 3

Some of our Book Club crew got together to celebrate my friend Christina’s birthday (you know, the super talented one). We all went out for a sushi dinner, and it was just such a great time.

photo 1

The food wasn’t too shabby either…loads and loads of sushi, and fried bananas + fried ice cream for dessert.

photo 2

Yum x10,000.

2. Baby bed head. It’s a real thing.

And it never gets old.

3. Last week I shared a BuzzFeed video that I fell in love with, and then reader Kathryn informed me that there was another one about Weird Things Couples Do on Date Night. Ohhhh myyyy godddd, it fit us to a T! I swear, this couple is secretly watching us over here or something.

4. Remember how I told you guys last week that my dad has been commenting on the blog these days? Well, in case you missed this one, I just had to share…

He is such a character, I’ll tell ya. Winking smile

5. I tried out the new pumpkin Chobani this week and I was impressed!

It was really good (and I also really love the 2% flavors), but I’m not sure if I’d prefer to buy the pumpkin one or just buy plain and mix in my own pumpkin and spices. I think flavor-wise, I choose my own mix. But convenience + time would go to the pre-made pumpkin. Anyone else try it yet?

6. I know I’ve mentioned post-partum hair loss in the past, but have you guys noticed all of my new hairs lately?

You’d think I just did a really bad job of chopping some bangs, but no. Those are all new hairs growing back. It’s crazy.

7. Jay and I have another double date night planned tonight with our friends Joe and Kate! We’re so excited, because it’s been sooooo long since we last did the date night out thing, sans babies. Should be a good time!

8. Lucas and I finally got our new TOMS yesterday, and the verdict? Love them BOTH!

Lucas got a pair of the classics in ash, which I think I’m the most obsessed over.

I mean, really?

And I got a pair of funky designed classics.

Those particular ones aren’t on their website, but I’m still totally eyeballing these. This could be a dangerous new thing.

9. And speaking of new shoes (and spending more money than I should be on them) I wound up buying these Kaylor Slouchy boots and these suede Strappy Boots from Target yesterday. All (or maybe most?) are buy one, get one 50% off right now, FYI!

10. These two…already watching football together.

And discussing the plays.

I just love them. Smile

Okay guys, that’s all I’ve got for ya today! What’s good for the weekend?! Anyone doing anything fun or “fall-ish?” (I know you love that, Dad!). Whatever it is that you’re doing, have a blast, and I’ll catch ya on Monday!

Weekend Highlights {3/10}

Hey hey! How’s everyone doing today? I’m excited because I took some pictures for once over the weekend, so I actually have a bit more to share with you all this morning. It was a really, really great weekend for no special reasons other than I got to spend it all with family, which is what I look forward to all week long.

Friday night we ordered Sushi take-out from our favorite local sushi spot.

We shared one of their specialty roles (for the locals, the Siena roll is AMAZING) and then I had a salmon/avocado and half of a California roll.

While Jay was out picking up our dinner, he also happened to pick up some dessert from Stewart’s for us, too. Ohh, he’s such a smart man.

They had hand packed pints on sale so he picked up a pint of their Philly Apple Pie for me (OMG it’s freakin’ amazing) and I topped it off with some vanilla cupcake flavored Goldfish. (How they managed to get in my shopping cart recently, I just do not know. But I DO know  that Jamie would approve of this snack). Winking smile

I’m pretty sure I was asleep before 10pm Friday night, and then we were up and at ‘em nice and early on Saturday. Granted, we’re always up nice and early, but we’re never usually “presentable” or ready for the day until at least noon. But we were out the door late in the morning to head to a birthday party for one of our cousins’ son.

It was a Mickey Mouse theme…and I just about died over those ears.

While we were there we all had some snacks to eat, and Lucas even tried out some pieces of a homemade carrot applesauce muffin. I’d be surprised if he managed to get more than five pieces actually in his mouth, but it was good practice.

The party tuckered all of us out and concluded right around this guy’s nap time, so we packed it up and hit the road back home.

Lucas continued napping once we got home, so mommy and daddy took advantage of the down time and decided to close our eyes too…

Which turned into an hour and a half afternoon nap for all of us. Ohh, how I wish I could do that more often.

Saturday evening was spent with all of my boys. There was some more practice with finger foods…

Sweet potatoes for everyone (ours were topped with some chili, melted cheese, and avocado…heck yes)…

Cuddle time with my fur ball Cody…

And another early bedtime. Winking smile

Sunday started off a bit later than usual (although, technically, not really) thanks to daylight savings time. We had a lazy morning, as usual, and sipped on some coffee while playing with the babe.

Once he was down for his nap, Jay made me breakfast, which was an egg sandwich with provolone and turkey bacon on a sandwich thin. Ohh, it was so so good.

And shortly after breakfast digested, it was time for a workout. I recently downloaded the Nike Training Club app after Chelsey told me how wicked (awesome) of a workout it was.

Well ho-leee crap, she wasn’t kidding. I did my first workout on Friday and attempted my second on Sunday and all I can say is…wow.

Obviously, as you can tell, I have some workout ADD these days and I’m not really following any specific type of a plan (running, T25, Nike Training Club app). This is pretty typical of me…I just like to roll with what I’m in the mood for. We’ll see how long I stick with the NTC app but I will say that, for now, it’s freakin’ awesome.

After a quick grocery shop Sunday afternoon, the three of us were out the door again to head to my parents’ house for an early dinner. Mom said she was making a full turkey dinner with all fixins’, so there was no way we could miss out on that.

Mmmm mmmmmmm.

Of course, grandma and grandpa were thrilled to have some QT with their favorite (only) grandson.

And that pretty much sums up our weekend!

So now, here we are back at Monday once again. Here’s to hoping it’s a quick, productive, and fun week ahead!

Weekend Highlights {11/24}

Ahhhh, guys, I’m so pumped. I have a nice, short, 2-day work week ahead of me this week, before I’m off for a lovely five days. Can you guys sense the excitement through this post? If you can’t, I promise…it’s there. Woop!

So how was the weekend, friends? Do anything fun or exciting? Our was fairly busy and definitely filled with lots of fun stuff. After a quiet Friday in (and me falling asleep on the couch about 10 minutes into the Redbox movie that Jay rented for us…whoops), we were up ‘n’ at em nice and early Saturday morning. After putting Lucas down for his morning nap, I left my boys at home and headed out to meet up with my bestie, Heather, for a coffee date.

It had been way too long since we last got together, so we had quite a bit to chat about. And, FYI? The caramel brulee latte is ahh-mazing. I ordered a grande, non-fat, with 2 pumps of syrup (instead of the usual four) and it was perfection. I am in love.

While I was out, I also got a little update that Mr. Lucas had just woken up from his nap and was being a super smiley guy.

I much prefer those updates, as opposed to the, “omg he’s crying and I can’t get him to stop” ones. Winking smile

Late Saturday afternoon, my in-laws came over to hang out with us all for a few hours (Lucas did great, wahoo!), then after we put Lucas to bed, Jay and I headed out for DATE NIGHT. Gahh, I was so excited to be out for a few hours!

We went to Sake for some sushi, and since we had a few minutes to wait for our table, we decided to grab a spot at the bar and order a couple of drinks.

That wine was tastin’ goooooood.

Not long after, our table was ready so me and my handsome date grabbed a seat.

We started off with some edamame, which was super salty and super delicious.

And then we ordered ourselves a few rolls. I got a California roll and a Salmon and Avocado roll.

But the most amazing star of the meal was the signature “Siena Roll” we decided to share. It was spicy tuna, topped with a lobster salad, avocado, mango, and then finished off with a spicy mango sauce. Umm…incredible.

Jay and I loved just hanging out and being able to enjoy each others’ company without any other distractions. It was a much-needed night and we both had such a great time.

Of course, we couldn’t end the night there…

On our way home, we squeezed in a quick stop at our favorite fro yo place, and as you can see, I went a little crazy with my cup ‘o’ good stuff.

Truth be told, the almost two glasses of wine I had with dinner were doing a pretty good job of giving me beer wine goggles, so at that point, I really just wanted all. the. things. It was a massive serving, but I polished it all off like a champ. Hey…it was date night. Winking smile

And as a side note, we also got our first snow Saturday night.

Yikes…I don’t think I’m quite ready for that super cold yet.

On Sunday, the three of us headed over to my parents’ house to watch the Jets game (even though we were over an hour late thanks to a certain someone not wanting to nap and getting his schedule all thrown off…).

As always, there was plenty of snacks to be had.

And everyone had a good time just hanging out…even if the Jets totally stunk up the place. Ooof.

Lucas was a bit hit or miss while we were out, since naps weren’t really his thing all morning/afternoon, so that tiredness translated into crankiness quite often (since he’s in the midst of a few Wonder Weeks, I’m actually curious if that little brain of his was working in overdrive on some new stuff yesterday?).

Luckily, he wasn’t cranky the whole time we were out, and he managed to give grandma, grandpa, Uncle Dan, and Aunt Meg a few good giggles and smiles.

We left my parents’ house once Lucas basically told us he was done for the evening, and then once we put him to bed, Jay and I spent some time prepping things for work (bottles for the babe, food for us) and then vegged out on the couch watching a couple hours of the AMA’s.

And now, here we are again at Monday. But hey, that’s cool. Only two days to get through this week. Winking smile

Happy Monday, friends! Make it a great one today!

Weekend Highlights {9/9}

Highlight #1 from this past weekend was most definitely the amazing sushi takeout that Jay and I got on Saturday night. Ohhh myyyyy.

Compared to the last time we got takeout sushi, this one was just soooo much better. (For the locals, we ordered from Sake in Latham) We shared some spicy tuna rolls, California rolls, and salmon avocado rolls and each of them was equally delicious. It really hit the spot!

Another highlight would have to be the chocolate chip cookie cake that I made on Friday evening. I made this recipe, which I found on Pinterest, and I can’t even begin to explain just how delicious it was.

Then again, judging by the amount of it that’s already missing, that probably gives you a good idea. Granted, I took that photo last night, but umm, yeah…

Lucas, of course, is always another highlight. This was his “who farted?” face from while we were out visiting his Uncle Dan’s house on Saturday.

And on Sunday morning? Little guy right there actually ROLLED OVER for the first time from his tummy to his back. Jay and I are no baby experts, but we had no idea that it could happen so soon, at six weeks? We thought maybe it was a fluke, but then he went and did it three times in a row…just enough for us to grab our phones and get a video. Oh my gosh, it was so fun to watch.

Actually, Sunday was an overall really good day. Starting out with Lucas’ shenanigans, and then him giving us a nice morning nap so I could get my workout on. Winking smile

Last week, I was cleared from the doc at my six week checkup, so I am good to resume physical activity. I thought a lot about what I wanted to do when I started getting back into it, and wound up deciding to participate in Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp. I’ll talk more about fitness/exercise in another post, but yesterday I completed my fit test and was actually pretty pleased with how things went.

It felt great to be a little sweaty again…gotta love those endorphins!

Post workout and shower, I still had enough time to head out and get the much-needed pedicure I was hoping I’d be able to squeeze in before we all had to head back out for the afternoon.

That little hour of quiet time was just fabulous and now my ugly feet are happily looking slightly less disgusting. Winking smile

Before stopping back home, I also made a quick stop at our local beverage mart.

Hey…’tis the season, right? Hubby said we were out so I figured it’d be good to stock up a little for the house.

Shortly after I got home, I fed the little man and we were back out the door again. My friend Heather’s son Logan turned two (Seriously. Where does the time go?) so we went over there for his party.

And yes, mommy was thoroughly enjoying her first Octoberfest beer of the season. YUM.

Please notice Lucas’ fantastic onesie here, too. As Jets fans, we really aren’t expecting much this season, but we just had to dress him up for the first game. But now, since they actually won (who knew?!?) we’ve decided he will be wearing this outfit for every single game.

And when he can’t fit into it anymore, we’ll figure out another way to use it. Since he seems to be growing like a weed, I have a feeling it’s not gonna last forever. Winking smile

After the party, we stopped over and visited with Sarah and Jeff for a few hours, they fed us this delicious soup for dinner, and then we were back home to tuck the little guy in to bed. It was another great weekend for sure!

For those of you eagerly awaiting to see the winners of the Trip Tribe giveaway, stay tuned. I’m just waiting to hear back from them to verify winners who have signed up so I’ll most likely have those results for you tomorrow.

So how was everyone else’s weekend? Do anything fun? Eat anything amazing? Do any baking? I’m off now to go take care of a few more things around the house while I can before Lucas wakes up from his morning nap. Chat with you guys soon! Smile

(Un)Football Food

It’s the first official Sunday of NFL football, and as you may or may not already know…in this house, Sundays are for football! I am so excited for the beginning of football season; there’s always so much fun involved with football games for us.

Despite the excitement, it was actually a fairly low-key football Sunday for us; Jay and I both had some things to take care of around the house, and didn’t really spend too much time watching the earlier games. That doesn’t mean, however, that we didn’t continue checking in on our football pool picks.

That’s right my friends, I am in a football pool. I made my picks, really have no idea what I’m doing, and am keeping my fingers crossed. So far, my picks are looking about 50/50, but I’ll take it.

Being the first official football Sunday, you’d think that Jay and I would have had our usual spread of snacks and goodies; but since it was just the two of us and we’d been working most of the day, we didn’t really take advantage. Instead, we had probably one of the most un-football related meals you could think of…

Take-out sushi, thank you very much.

Which Cody was also all over

Earlier today Jay suggested sushi and I practically peed my pants. I absolutely love the fact that he will now suggest sushi without me having to beg him to go and get it. I was immediately sold.

Our order came with miso soup, salad, and a free egg roll; we didn’t eat much of the soup, I devoured the salad, and we shared the egg roll.

I realized on my way home from picking up our order that I had completely forgotten to order one of my rolls. Typically, I will chow down three sushi rolls with no problem, but luckily, Jay shared half of his spicy tuna roll with me. He’s such a keeper. Winking smile

For Him: California + Sweet Potato + 1/2 Spicy Tuna rolls

For Her: California + Salmon + 1/2 Spicy Tuna rolls (missing: my beloved Alaska roll…)

All of our sushi tonight was delicious (for the locals, we ordered from Okinawa) but I have an issue that I need some of your help with…

I cannot…for the life of me…hold a pair of chopsticks.

I am literally a mess when I try using them. Somehow, I’m still able to pick up about 90% of my sushi rolls with success, but I look like a complete tool while doing it.

Any tips for my pathetic chopstick skills? Please…send ‘em my way! Eye rolling smile

As for my fortune cookie fortune for tonight…

it was rather fitting, wouldn’t you say? Smile

There’s only about another hour until the BIG game for today…my JETS are playing! And guess what…

I’m excited! I’m actually slightly jealous, knowing that my dad and brother are currently sitting in the stands at the game right now, but it’s okay…I’ll be down there next Sunday. Open-mouthed smile

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Question for the Evening:

Please…help me with the chopsticks. Any tips?

Courtney Squared

Today, I had the lovely pleasure of meeting up with Courtney for a lunch date! No sillies, not me, this Courtney. The two of us have been communicating back and forth for a few weeks now about some different ideas, so we decided to meet up and chat over some sushi.

We went to a small little place called Yoshi Sushi in Latham, which I had never been to. From the outside, it looks like kind of a dump, to be honest. But the inside was anything but, and the food was great! I was immediately served some nice warm tea, which tasted great in this afternoon’s chilly, windy weather.

The ordering style was much different from anything I had never seen this before!

The menu was already on the table, so you just mark off what you want and bring it up to the counter.

To my surprise, after ordering, we were served some salad and miso soup. Both were typical, but certainly tasty.

I think my biggest achievement of the day was that I was able to eat my whole salad with chopsticks. Usually, I’m fumbling around with them like an idiot, but today I brought my game face. Winking smile

As you probably noticed above, I decided on the California and Sweet Potato rolls for today’s lunch.

Last week when I went to Sake Café with Gabby, she had ordered a sweet potato roll, let me try it, and it was incredible. Usually, I try to steer clear of any rolls with extra mayo or those that are labeled “tempura” (aka, fried). But for the sweet potato roll, an exception was made!

Both of my rolls today were really delicious, and I actually can’t decide which restaurant I like better now…Yoshi or Sake? I guess I’ll just have to try a few more from both?

Courtney and I had a really nice time chatting and sharing some different ideas of ours over lunch. It’s always nice to, not only meet a blog reader, but also one who shares such similar interests. I left lunch with so many ideas that I’m really excited to start thinking more about and possibly putting into place. Thanks again, Courtney!

P.S. – I really can’t get used to calling somebody else Courtney. It’s just so not common for me…two Courtney’s at once? That’s crazy talk! Confused smile

After lunch, I headed out to meet up with Sarah & Mal at the mall (yes, again). I didn’t do any buying, but had a great time just hanging out with two of my favorite gals.

Unfortunately, I had quite the stomach pains for the majority of our mall adventure. I originally thought it may have been from lunch, but I actually think a major factor was my darn outfit!

A couple fun side notes here…one, I’m standing on my couch in order to take this picture (I’m so cool like that), and two…do you see my little creeper anywhere??? Winking smile

So even though the belt wasn’t totally tight, it seems as though any time I try to wear any sort of belt around my waist, I get extremely uncomfortable. Which is a total bummer because I love the look of layering with a belt.

As soon as I got home, the belt came off and I instantly felt relief.

So then I played around a bit with this guy. Smile

Now, I’m just waiting for hubby to get home so we can figure out what to have for dinner. Although, I’m starting to get hungry, so we’ll see how long I can hold off for… Winking smile

Question for the Evening:

Are there are any clothes/shoes/etc you can’t wear because of discomfort?

If You Ask Me…

I don’t know about you, but if you ask me, I’ve got a perfect Friday night happening right now…

Takeout Sushi (California Roll + Salmon Roll)

A nice big ‘ol glass of wine (or two…) Winking smile

My two favorite boys

My comfies & last night’s DVR’d Jersey Shore episode

Hey, call me a granny, but this is my kinda Friday. Smile If I’m lucky, I’ll be asleep before 10pm. Geez, I really am a granny…

Eye rolling smile

A couple quick notes…

*Don’t forget to enter my Blueberry Muffin Larabar Giveaway!” You have until Monday to enter!

**Thank you so much for all your kind words about our wedding album! I was so excited to be able to share it with you!

Question for the Evening:

What is your ideal Friday night??

What I Got Is What I Want

It’s Friday Night! WOOO HOOOO!

I’ve been BodyPumped… (which I’m definitely going to be feelin’ tomorrow – boy, have I missed it!)

I’ve got my glass of vino…

I’ve got some delicious sushi (a California Roll to be exact) that I picked up from another trip to The Fresh Market

I’ve got my sweats on…

I’ve got some delicious Chocolate Chip Heath Bar Cookies fresh outta the oven…

I’m tellin’ ya, the aromas floating around the kitchen are amazing right now! Don’t worry, there’ll be a recipe headed your way ASAP. ;)

As much as I want to dive head first into these babies, they’re actually supposed to be saved for tomorrow. Jay and I are meeting up with Joe and Kate bright and early tomorrow (7am…on a Satruday…oyyy) to head down to West Point for the Army vs. Temple game. The weather is supposed to hold up, and I am definitely excited for some tailgating!

But for now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a date with my vino, my couch, my cozy blanket, and some DVR’d Jersey Shore with my two favorite guys. Hey, I may be a granny, but I couldn’t think of any better way to spend my Friday night tonight! ;)

Hope everyone’s weekend is off to a fabulous start!!

Sushi on Saturday

On Saturday evening, Jay and I met up with our few of our friends for dinner at Sake Cafe, a local Asian restaurant & sushi bar.

You may remember when we last visited Sake over the summer. We totally loved it, so we were more than excited to return. :)

Since the restaurant is BYOB (love that!) Jay and I decided to bring one of our favorite bottles of Pinot Grigio: Ecco Domani.

I started things off with an amazing bowl of Wonton soup.

I was all about the noodles…SO good!

For my dinner “entree,” I ordered 3 different rolls: a California Roll, Yellowtail Roll, & Alaska Roll.

It was my first time trying the yellowtail roll, and I must say…I was a little nervous when I saw it come out with no rice on the outside. BUT, I am definitely now a fan! It was super tasty.

Out of the 3 rolls, I’d still say that the California Roll was tops. It’s a tried and true fave. :)

Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of the evening was when Jay actually ordered himself a California roll! Jay never liked sushi, but decided to give it a try…and he actually enjoyed it!

Do you know what this means?!?! More sushi in my future! WAHOOOOO!!!

Question for the Day:

Do you eat sushi? If so, what’s your favorite??
