Soooo, I apologize to anyone who may have tried checking in on the blog this morning and had it freaking out at them…
Apparently, there was some issues with plugins or something. Freakin’ technology I’ll tell ya…
Thankfully, once again, my blog genius Ryan came to my rescue within minutes and had things back to normal in no time. He. is. amazing.
Now that we’re back up and running, let’s backtrack a bit to last night’s dinner.
I bought pork chops on sale last week and never got a chance to get them cooked up until last night. I basically followed this recipe, but also added in a sliced apple with the onions. It was super simple – definitely a great, quick mid-week meal.
On the side we had some orange and brown sugar glazed carrots, which I had actually cooked up earlier in the day for one of my freelance pieces. Gotta love when the experiments pay off.
After dinner, Jay and I had to head out quick to Home Depot to pick up a few things for the house. I tried to convince him that if I was going to go to one of my least favorite stores that there should be something in the trip for me (::cough, cough, soft serve ice cream, cough cough::), but he wasn’t buyin’ it.
I guess that’s a good thing, since I really didn’t need it anyway. So we came back home and I quickly realized that we did have another little dessert treat waiting for us.
Chocolate covered apples! These were actually the favors from Seth and Nicole’s wedding over the weekend, so we enjoyed those while relaxing on the couch and watching The Voice.
Side note – does anyone else watch The Voice?
This is out first season really getting into it and/or watching from the beginning, but I love it! I’ve never been a fan of American Idol, so I didn’t think I’d like this one, but we both think it’s great. I’m excited to see what happens after the blind auditions.
*****
Breakfast this morning wasn’t anything exciting, but it was tasty.
A whole wheat English muffin topped with peanut butter and pumpkin, banana slices, and chia seeds, aaaand my obligatory mug of coffee…all enjoyed at my desk while catching up on some emails.
It is a gloomy, rainy day over here today, but our siding guys are still out there workin’ hard this morning (we’ve got one side totally redone already!). I feel bad about them having to be out in all this stuff, so I’m thinking I may have to whip up a batch of cookies or something for them later this afternoon.
P.S. – There’s still time to enter the Champion Smoothie Sports Bra giveaway! A winner will be chosen later this afternoon!
Question for the Morning:
What TV shows are you excited about starting back up this fall? For me:
- Shows that can’t come back soon enough: Modern Family, The Middle, New Girl.
- Shows I’m intrigued about starting up: Nashville, Chicago Fire, Elementary, Partners.
- Show I’ve watched the past two weeks and find it hilariously funny and borderline crude at the same time: The New Normal (<—has anyone else caught this?!?)
Aaaaaand now I officially sound like a TV junkie
Taylor says
I too have started getting into The Voice! I never really watched much of it before this season, but it’s grabbing ahold of me! Celo’s faces always crack me up – and did you catch Blake’s “oops! I seem to have sat on my CMA trophy!” moment last night? It had my parents and I cracking up. Also – the guy who had the glasses and played the guitar? His voice stole my heart! He seems genuine and very, very talented – I’m rooting for him.
Have a very happy Tuesday pretty lady!
Catherine Culligan says
My boyfriend and I were laughing so hard at Blake’s trophy comment too! Such a great show and awesome talent!!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Haha I totally bribe Cody like that when he insists on dragging me to Home Depot too. It’s usually in the form of ice cream or frozen yogurt as well. ;)
Erin says
LOVE that The Voice is back on, we love it. I also can’t wait for The Middle, it’s my absolute favorite show…LOVE IT!!
Elaine says
Modern Family and The New Girl are my favorites! I cannot wait for the next seasons to start.
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
:) No worries, Courtney…..I’m right there with you when it comes to being a TV junkie! I can’t wait for Castle, The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, and Revenge, and that is just a small list compared to what I actually watch!! I watched The New Normal last week and thought it was pretty good. I’m debating whether or not to get into though because I’m not sure it has staying power. I’m so tired of the networks yanking shows that I love!
Megan says
I love the voice! I’ve watched every season and this is one of the best! I want to catch Nashville also, do you know when it starts?
I also love NCIS and Criminal Minds along with the Biggest Loser.
Courtney says
October 10th!
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud says
Big Bang Theory!! It’s my fav :)
and those carrots look amazing. I am allergic to carrots unless they aer cooked so i like to mow down when i can find a good recipe where they are cooked through!
Connie says
There are so many shows I wish I could watch, but the “free cable” that comes with my apartment is mostly Spanish channels and weird infomercials hahaha. LUCKILY, I have the Food Network and TBS. I guess it’s a good thing I don’t have that many channels because I’d end up watching SO much TV and not getting much studying done. I love TV a little too much :)
Lindsey says
Too many! New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, Dexter, Vampire Diaries, How I Met Your Mother… haha. I am a TV addict.
Sana says
I can’t wait till Mod. Family comes back, pregnancy???
Khushboo says
I can’t wait for Downton Abbey & Suits to start..although the latter has me waiting till Jan…uff!
Beks says
I’m a TV Junkie that gets her fix once they’ve been downloaded (I don’t like commercials, ESPECIALLY during election years. Yuck!), but I’m psyched for “Once Upon a Time,” “Castle,” “Big Bang Theory,” “Revenge” (After I watch season 1 on Netflix), and as much as I’m loathe to admit it, probably “American Horror Story: Asylum.” I got sucked into season 1, told myself I wouldn’t watch season 2. Yeah…it’s intriguing to me. Dang it.
Courtney says
Oh my gosh! I totally forgot all about American Horror Story! I watched season 1 and loooooooooved it, haha. I’m looking forward to season 2…as craaazy and twisted as it looks ;)
Erica says
I haven’t had cable in years but I cannot wait for new episodes of Psych to come out!
Lindsay @ Live. Love. Nutrition. says
The Voice is great! I’ve never actually watched a full season, but whenever I catch it on, I plop on the couch and never get up because I don’t want to miss anything!
I’m excited for Dancing with the Stars to start back up! It’s my favorite :)
Megan@funsizedfitness says
The New Normal is hilarious!!! I’m also excited for Modern Family, Survivor, Revenge, and the Britney 2.0 episode of Glee this Thursday :)
stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
I used to watch A LOT of TV when I was younger but I can honestly say that I barely watch the news now!! I’d say the only shows I do watch are the Bachelor/Bachelorette, Dancing with the Stars and Sporting Events!
Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness says
I love the voice! It’s so much better than American Idol! I’m excited for parenthood, new girl, and grey’s anatomy to come back! I like fall television :)
Courtney says
I love The Voice! Check out Cee-Lo’s baby hands… seriously, they are so small! Once someone told me that I could not stop staring at his hands. It pops up in google searches too haha
Courtney says
LOL – they are SO small!!!
Suzanne @ Fit Minded Mom says
I LOVE “The Voice”! I have been watching it since the beginning and it is by far the best musical show on television. American Idol and X-Factor are just so staged and I don’t love how they exploit people.
I am also a huge Adam Levine fan(sigh!!!) so that doesn’t hurt, either!!
Jane @ In the Pink and Green says
My husband and I have been watching the Voice too and we love it! We’ve never watched it before, but we’re really liking it so far this season!
Sara @ The Foodie Diaries says
The Voice is BY FAR my favorite singing show. I never liked American Idol so I didn’t think I’d like The Voice either, but I love the judges and the dynamic between them. I’m literally laughing throughout the entire show!
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
SO excited for New Girl and Modern Family to be back…and for new episodes of television in general! I’m definitely a TV junkie too.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I’m addicted to tv too. :) I can’t wait for the CW shows to come back, Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge, Once Upon A Time.
I’m looking forward to checking out Jersey Girl, Partners, The Mindy Project, Ben & Kate, and Nashville.
Danica @ It's Progression says
Oh my gosh I’m craving a caramel apple so bad right now! Those things are amazing….I’ve heard “The New Normal” is hilarious–will have to check it out!
Jamie says
Excited for Glee to finally be back – andddd has anyone seen Breaking Amish??! Awesome new show, esp for TLC
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables says
I love The Voice! I am so glad that Bones is back on!!! One of my favorites for sure!
Lauren says
I keep hearing The Voice is a great one to get into. I feel like I haven’t watched tv in months but I usually catch up on series on dvd in the mornings when I run. RIght now, I’m all into Happy Endings. I hear Suits is another great show too.
nicole says
Love your blog!
Erin says
I never know how to cook porkchops! Maybe I’ll try this recipe.
As for TV, I’m intrigued by Chicago Fire only because they filmed part of it in the building next door to my apartment building AND filmed some interior ambulance scenes while an ambulance was parked in my building’s loading dock. I want to know what they were doing in there!
Courtney says
No way?!? That’s awesome!!
Molly Ritterbeck says
I so can’t wait to see the new normal and the new show with Dennis Quaid in it – though I have a suspicion that is will not be great…ho hum – so is TV…
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
I’m intrigued about Elementary! I love Lucy Liu, so I’m excited to see her take on Dr. Watson.
kim@hungryhealthygirl says
I thought The New Normal looked pretty cute. I really don’t watch much TV, but love Grey’s Anatomy and never miss an episode.
Amber says
How do you put pumpkin on your english muffin? Do you just mix it with the peanut butter or what?
Courtney says
yup! I’ll either mix it in a small dish first, or I’ll just spread one right on top of the other.
Andrea @ Vegvacious says
Chocolate covered apples are the best!! There’s a place by my parents’ where you can get monster apples that are covered in caramel, chocolate, nuts, sprinkles…seriously to die for delicious!!!
I’m looking forward to the return of Criminal Minds, Vampire Diaries and Survivor! I’m going to try not to get hooked into too many shows, but it’s hard as the weather turns cold and gray!!
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
Oh man, the worst blog experience is when the whole site disappears. I did that twice! haha, but hopefully I learned my lesson. :) And our TV doesn’t work so no shows for me! But that’s probably a good thing or who knows where all my time will go :P
Rachel says
I’ve been obsessed with Vampire Diaries lately! :D So I’m excited for that to come back :D I also love Switched at Birth hahaha
kristina says
there are so many great shows starting up again. Have you watched Parenthood? love it!
Courtney says
I actually caught the end of an episode last(?) week – made me want to watch more, but I feel like I should watch it from the beginning…?
kristina says
You can find previous episodes online.. Maybe you’ll need a “sick” day sometime soon? =) It’s an amazing show!!
Danielle @ Itsaharleyyylife says
my mom watches the voice so i watched it the other day and it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be! I love blake shelton though so that probably had something to do with it!
amina says
BTW I know you’re always eating Thomas’ English Muffins…they just came out with a limited edition Pumpkin Spice flavored English Muffin. It’s awesome! Had one this AM w/ a little coconut butter!
Courtney says
YES! I had them last year and they were awwwwesome. Glad to hear they’re out again! :)
Ashley @ Sweat for Sweets says
I WISH I watched more TV, but I just don’t! I feel like I never have any time :( The one show I have recently started watching, though, on DVD is The Walking Dead! It’s so eerie and suspenseful! Have you seen it?
erica says
i LOVE the voice! i started watching it last season. sometimes i enjoy watching the judges duke it out more than watching the talent. lol. i love their funny bickering. it’s so much more entertaining than american idol, in my opinion….and adam levine isn’t bad to look at either ;p
i’m excited to watch elementary. i hope it’s good :) and i’ve caught bits of the new normal and found it hilarious. but i’m not sure why i don’t make a note to dvr it….i’m super excited for vampire diaries and both ncis shows! :)
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Chocolate-covered apples is such a cute favor!
Carrie @ Fitness and Frozen Grapes says
I’m obsessed with Downton Abbey, which aired in the UK on Sunday. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see episodes here until January. Sadness. :(
Shannon says
I’m much more of a TV junkie than you are. Do not feel bad at all! :)
Elementary looks good, but Scandal is on at the same time. Scandal wins- I’ll have to watch Elementary online. :( Shows that I’m excited to watch include…
1. Castle
2. The Middle
3. Modern Family
4. Scandal
5. Revenge
A couple of shows I watch (Smash & Body of Proof) don’t premiere until midseason, but both had cliff hanger endings and I really want to know what happens next!
Do you watch the X Factor? I really like it- Britney Spears, to my surprise, is a HARSH judge. Demi is good too. I like the judges’ panel, and you wouldn’t believe some of the talent they’ve had so far. Youtube Janelle Garcia, Carly Rose Sonenclar, and you’ll see what I mean. Their voices are amazing- and they’re only 18 & 13!
Stacie Teves says
Hi Courtney! I love watching the Voice, I like that all the judges are so different. I am also really excited to watch new girl, modern family, shark tank and Greys Anatomy. I think I am becoming a t.v. junkie also. haha
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I started watching Parenthood on Netflix and I got hooked!! And then there’s also How I Met Your Mother – I’m obsessed!!
Trisha says
I absolutely LOVED the first episode of The New Normal. Recorded that & my other fave, Parenthood, tonight & can’t wait to watch tomorrow after work. I always really get into shows at the beginning of fall. I usually lose interest in most, but I’ve been loving The Voice too.
Bek @ Crave says
I don’t watch much tv actually! Ps. Yay for fixed blog- I have some catching up to do ;)
