A Fantastic Birthday Dinner

By Courtney 11 Comments

When you think of a summertime barbecue, what are 3 foods that come to mind? Quick, no time to think!

Well, for me, it’d probably be chicken, corn on the cob, and watermelon. And would you believe that I was lucky enough to have all three of them tonight for dinner?? :-D

Jay and I headed over to his parent’s house this afternoon for a nice birthday dinner. While we were there, we enjoyed some more awesome weather, played a little corn hole, and just chatted casually amongst each other. His grandma and Uncle Marty even came down to visit which was a nice surprise. :)

Like I mentioned before, tonight’s dinner practically had summer written all over it. Jay’s dad really does a fantastic job when it comes to seasoning chicken and steak, and today was no different.

The spread

My piece of chicken was absolutely delicious!! I probably had a little more than 3/4 of it and then gave the rest to Jay. Along with my chicken, I enjoyed an ear of corn, some homemade macaroni salad made by his mom, and a generous helping of watermelon (some of which went un-photographed).

Since it was a birthday celebration and all, eventually it was time for some birthday cake! :-P

Happy Birthday Old Man Jay! ;)

I like to tease him now that he’s “an old fart” at the ripe old age of 27.

The cake was absolutely a-maz-ing. It came from a local place in Schodack called The Lighthouse. For anyone who is reading that is local, you have GOT to check this place out. Not only does she have delicious ice cream, but she makes some incredible baked goods. And on top of that, she made this ice cream cake…vanilla & chocolate ice cream with a hot fudge center and brownie bottom. Usually when it comes to ice cream cakes, I could take ‘em or leave ‘em, but this was definitely a “taker.” ;)

After cake and presents, Jay and I said our goodbyes and headed out for a Date Night at the movies. :) The best part was – we both got a FREE MOVIE! We had a coupon for a free admission on your birthday, which was definitely a plus; but when we handed it over, the manager all of a sudden said, “Hey, you know what? You guys will be my guests tonight – no charge.” How sweet is that?!? :-D We saw Inception, which was a really good movie, but definitely one you had to pay attention to!

Overall, I’d say it was a fantastic day!

Random Question for the Night:

Regular cake or ice cream cake?? :-P

Regular cake for me...I'm not a fan of chocolate ice cream, but I do love that crunchy layer in the middle ;) We just saw Inception on Friday night...definitely one you couldn't let your mind wander with! (btw, Leo is pretty good - lookin', no?..haha!) Happy Birthday to Jay and Cody!

I'm a bigger fan of regular cake over ice cream cake... but that hot fudge in the middle would probably make my decision much harder. ;)

Oh for sure, ice cream cake! I LOVE it. I'm not much of a cake eater unless it is Paula Deen's Strawberry Cake. Now that is some good cake, and even better with ice cream. Yummy! Hey, my brothers b-day is soon and you got me wanting to get him an ice cream cake (for my taste buds) haha
