Guess who was lucky enough to be able to enjoy a kid-free night away this weekend???
Yaaaaassss. And it was SUCH a great time!! My mother-in-law generously came to stay and watch the boys overnight while Jay and I enjoyed a night away up in Saratoga as a somewhat belated anniversary celebration.
We decided to do an overnight stay at Longfellows again, which we actually visited three years ago, for our anniversary, and I did a much better job of documenting more from our stay the first go ’round. So be sure to check that post out for more!
Upon check in, we were given some of their delicious cookies, and were then greeted with some chilled champagne and chocolates once we got to our room. Considering I was pregnant the last time we visited, I was excited to be able to partake this time.
We didn’t pop any bubbly right away though, since we decided to get crazy and go hit up the Saratoga Casino to do some afternoon gambling.
To be quite honest, Jay and I are not really the “gambling type.” We usually have a hard time basically tossing away money, but we decided to try our luck and go in with a small “allowance” for each of us.
Turns out, we’re definitely still not the gambling type…nor are we very lucky…but the highlight of the trip for me was most definitely this Leinenkugel Berry Shandy that they had on tap. My. Goodness. One of the best beers I’ve had in a LONG time!! And, sadly, I can’t seem to find anywhere where I’ll be able to get it locally?!? If anyone knows, please, help a gal out.
So after our allowance was gone (in probably less than an hour) we decided to get outta dodge and head back to the hotel. We relaxed for a bit and chatted in the room while enjoying our champagne before eventually heading over the restaurant for our dinner reservations.
A couple of drinks at the bar while we waited!
We were both starving by the time we sat down and wound up ordering this chicken pesto flatbread for an appetizer. It was delicious!
Our dinners sort of left little to be desired, which really surprised me because the filet I got there previously was easily one of the best cuts of steak I’ve ever had. Hands down. So that was a bit of a bummer, but it still didn’t take away from the fact that we were just happy to be out and away and enjoying a dinner without having to ask someone to sit down and their food for the hundredth time. : )
Speaking of those little someones…they had a great time with their Mamite (my mother-in-law) and were just as excited to see us when we got home on Sunday as we were to see them.
A little time away is always amazing, and it does wonders for resetting my patience level for when their antics start getting crazy…
I really don’t know what I like most about this picture, but I just love it. <3
Hope you guys all had an awesome weekend, too! Stay tuned for a fun post tomorrow that I’m so excited to share!!

As a WI native, I can def agree that Leinenkugel’s beers are tasty! Summer Shandy is my favorite :) Glad you enjoyed a weekend away and some good beer :)

So i’m not really a beer expert at all, so others may have more info on this, but I have only ever seen that berry shandy in the summer, and I totally agree – it’s so good (especially for a non-beer lover like me). I’m sure you’ll have much better luck finding it in a few months!

Happy anniversary! It looks like you had a great time!

I actually have a 6 pack of Berry Shandy in my fridge right now! Living about an hour from Chippewa Falls probably helps. I am pretty sure it is a seasonal winter beer. I’m sad because I haven’t been able to find the Pomegranate Shandy sold separately anywhere this winter and that’s my favorite.

Ah, what a little time away can do!!!

Leinenkugel’s beers are sold in Buffalo if you get this way. I’m not sure about that one but I could find out if you are interested.

Hi, I just was commenting to my husband last night about wanting to try the Berry Shandy. I am practically a neighbor, also living in the Troy area, and I saw the Leinenkugel’s Berry Shandy in Hannaford on 126th Street.

Thanks, Erica!! I also found it at the Target in East Greenbush – go figure?! :)
