Today I’m excited to share a little recap of our first few months of using the new My Hannaford Rewards program! To see more details, you can check out my FIRST POST and SECOND POST about the program, too!
Earlier this year, I set a couple of small goals to both get back into meal planning (I’m getting there! Did you see the latest meal planning post??) and also take advantage of our grocery shopping time to have some fun with Lucas.
I will say, Lucas has definitely become more involved in the whole meal planning and grocery shopping experience, and I truly do love having his help (plus the fact that he’s excited about it!). And over the past few weeks, we’ve ended up forming somewhat of a routine. On Friday afternoons after preschool, we’ll usually sit down together and I’ll start putting together a list of items that we need from the store and we’ll talk about what we should have for dinners the following week. Of course, since he’s four, some weeks he’s more into it than others, but I do think that him having somewhat of a say in what we’re eating has also helped on the dinner front.
So I will usually browse through the weekly flyers and then let Lucas know what he can add to our shopping list. This gives us a great opportunity to practice his letter sounds, phonics, and spelling, too!
Once we have our list ready and our meals picked out, we’re then ready to go shopping. On a good weekend, I usually try to go on a Saturday morning or afternoon, just because it’s nice to have it done to make more time for meal prepping on Sunday.
Since January, I have really enjoyed using the My Hannaford Rewards program while shopping at Hannaford, and it’s been cool to see some of the extra savings we’ve earned. I always get excited when I see extra deals listed for fresh produce or meats, so I almost always utilize those as long as it’s something we eat.
I will say, that is one thing that I’d like to see more of within the app; hopefully they’ll continue to keep adding more!
I’ve also scored a few pretty sweet deals, too. For example, I recently had $2.00 of 1lb off the Taste of Inspirations brand of deli meat…
When I got to the store, I noticed that they had these savings bundles with a pound of meat + half pound of cheese for only $8.00. So after the coupon, I got all of that for only $6.00, which was a total deal! And we even incorporated it into our week by making some grilled turkey & Swiss sandwiches.
Looking back at the quarter, I know that there was a week or two where I didn’t handle the weekly grocery shop, and there were a couple of weeks where I wound up just grabbing a few quick things from other stores, but overall, I’m very pleased with our end-of-quarter savings:
Those earnings came from 5 full grocery shops during the first quarter, so I’m very happy with what I earned. I always love a good coupon, and Hannaford definitely delivered some great options during my first quarters on the program. Not only that, but hey, an added $5.75 in cash back is totally awesome. Especially since it was all earned from stuff I was going to be buying anyway – it’s a win-win!
One thing I’ve noticed with the program is that I find myself more inclined to buy their store brand items in order to earn the additional 2% on my account; so I’d say that was a smart move on Hannaford’s part.
So if you have a Hannaford near you and haven’t already done it, I would definitely recommend heading over to their website or downloading the Hannaford app on your smartphone for free. You can downloaded the app on your phone and be ready to start saving in minutes. And, also worth noting, there is no tiered pricing. All of the regular, low prices from Hannaford are available to everyone, not just those who are enrolled in the My Hannaford Rewards program.
I look forward to continuing my meal planning and grocery shopping with Lucas well beyond this fun partnership with Hannaford, and am excited to continue to share those meal plans with you when I can!

Completely agree about the fresh meats and produce… would love to see more coupons on them. I try to buy mostly fresh food instead of packaged, so it’s disappointing to scroll through and not find many (or any) coupons on what I normally buy. I do love the ‘picked for you’ coupons though… I almost always end up buying those items!
Now they just need a Hannaford To Go app!
