Over the past year or so, I’ve really been making an effort to make better changes for my (and our family’s) health, along with safer swaps for a number of the products we use in our home. And just recently, I’ve made another new change, and I am so, so excited about it!
You may have read about some of those changes along the way, too. On the health and fitness front, I tried out macro tracking earlier this year, which left me feeling better than ever. And when it comes to different products that I’d been using for myself and around the home, I’ve successfully been able to swap out many of them for simpler, safer, and/or healthier options:
- Most of our standard cleaners for safer, DIY options. {DIY All-Purpose Cleaner & Granite Cleaner // DIY Cleaning Wipes}
- Deodorant {I now use Primally Pure Lavender Deodorant}
- Toothpaste {I use Dr. Sheffield’s Naturals toothpaste in Natural Wintergreen}
- Tampons {sorry, TMI? I use Tampax Pure and Clean}
- Shampoo and conditioner {I use the MONAT products in this post, which I think you all know I love by now!}
Now, I’m by no means perfect. I’m far from being “crunchy.” There will always be certain foods or products that would likely take a lot for me to change or get rid of, but I think making any kind of change for the better, if and when you can, is always better than nothing. In short, I’m just someone trying to make healthier, safer choices when and where I can.
Then a few weeks ago, I shared a post with you all about the health and beauty products I use daily. Shortly after posting it, I took a hard look at everything I was using and sort of had one of those “AH HA” moments. If I was committing to making all of these healthier, safer swaps everywhere else in my home, then my daily skin and makeup routine should ABSOLUTELY be a part of that.
At the same time, I’d also been doing a lot of sitting back and quietly observing a little company you may have heard of called Beautycounter. Probably for a good year or so now.
Initially, I decided to go onto their website and take their Skin Care Quiz, which wound up recommending their Countermatch Collection (which, funny enough, had actually just been sitting in my shopping cart for a couple of weeks) and offered 10% off if I purchased the collection (not bad!).
Then after browsing through more of their makeup, I wound up with a mile-long list of everything else I’d wanted to try. So. Many. Good. Thingggggs!
But honestly, it isn’t just the products that made Beautycounter stand out for me, or the fact that they don’t use any harmful toxins and don’t test on animals. I’ve really always appreciated and admired their mission of getting safer beauty and personal care products into the hands of everyone, and truly advocating for more health-protective laws in the personal care industry….regardless of which products you use.
Did You Know?
- The U.S. uses cosmetics ingredients that are banned in Europe. Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products, and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date. THIRTY.
- The United States has not passed a major federal law regulating the cosmetics industry since 1938! Can you imagine how DIFFERENT skincare and makeup was back then?!
So after thinking about it a bit more, I decided to join as a Beautycounter consultant so I could a) snag the awesome 25% consultant discount, and b) share it with others!
I think (and hope) you all know by now that I care a lot about you as readers, and whatever I share with you on this blog is always going to be something that I truly know and love. I don’t take that lightly, and I always appreciate you allowing me to share the things that I’m passionate about. As I continue to try new products, I look forward to being able to share my honest opinions of them with you all!
I’ll also share, since I’m sure many of you are wondering, that I wound up stepping away from the previous direct sales company that I had been working at the beginning of this year. While I love their products (and will continue to buy them for the boys!) and their mission to promote literacy, there were certain parts of the business that just weren’t really working for me, and I was finding it more and more difficult to be successful, despite putting in a lot of time and effort. I knew it was time to walk away and see whether or not any other opportunities presented themselves.
And joining with Beautycounter just. made. total. sense.
SO, here’s the makeup that I’ve swapped so far, and can now confidently share that I am officially obsessed with:
- Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation (I use Sand, not pictured)
- Radiant All Over Bronzer (I use Dune)
- Satin Powder Blush (I use Melon)
- Velvet Eyeshadow Palette in Romantic
Before evening joining, these are the Beautycounter items I was already using and love…
- A few times a week, I’d been using the Nourishing Exfoliating Cleanser, which is gentle enough for my sensitive skin with no irritation.
- The Rejuvinating Radiance Serum is something I use most mornings underneath my moisturizer for some added hydration.
- The Overnight Resurfacing Peel is just insaaaaanely amazing, and makes my skin feel incredibly smooth and soft the next morning.
- I already shared my love for their Sheer Lipstick – Twig is my jam.
And last, here’s what else I’m currently giving a try, which has been great so far, but I want to give it a couple more weeks before I give my final thoughts…
- Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion
- Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream (<–this might be my favorite so far from the Countermatch line!)
- Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream
- Cleansing Balm

I love BeautyCounter and have been using it for maybe a year and a half now…so I’m happy for you! However, I have to say, one thing that bothers me is when they say they aim to get safer beauty and personal care products into the hands of everyone – because their price point doesn’t match up to that. I’m willing to spend the money on their line because I have the disposable income to do that, but it just rubs me the wrong way when they say that….$50+ moisturizer is not accessible to everyone. Just a thought…love the products otherwise, and I’m actually waiting on my resurfacing peel to come in the mail as we speak!
Andrea says
I‘m super interested in the Beautycounter products as I‘ve heard so many good things!
Do they ship to Europe though (specifically: Switzerland)?
Courtney says
Hey Andrea! Beautycounter products are only available in the US and Canada right now, I’m sorry!

Do you think the market is over saturated? It seems like every blogger or instagrammer is selling (pushing) beauty counter.

Hi,
I am extremely, extremely fond of cooking. The meticulous preparation of the great food, it is a hard feeling. When I focus on doing something, I feel like I’ve just done something more useful. Feeling happy. Fortunately, I have at least one of the five habits that you mention. Thank you for the post!Nursing Assignments
