Aaaaand we’re just movin’ right along!
Baby Tooth is just over 17 weeks today and is about the size of an onion, and I don’t know about you guys but I feel like my belly has some totally odd shape going on. What do ya think? It’s not quite round yet…almost squared off or something? Who knows…it makes me laugh, that’s all I know.
Let’s do a little side by side comparison…
Just look at that belly grow!
Here’s what else Baby Tooth has been up to this week:
- He/she is about 5 inches long (head to rump) and weighs about 5 ounces.
- Baby’s skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it.
- His/her umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and the little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints.
- He/she can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.
And here’s what’s been happening with me this past week:
Weight gained: When I checked in at my 16 week appointment last week, my doc told me that I had gained about 8 pounds overall, which she said is right on target. That definitely made me feel good about things.
Workouts: Had some more good ones this past week! I don’t remember all of them exactly (I really should start writing them down), but I know there were a few walking workouts, some strength workouts, a couple sessions with my pilates DVD and one with my Summer Sanders DVD.
Symptoms: Honestly, most of the time this week, it was super easy for me to forget I even had a little one in there (except when I was trying to fit into some of my clothes, haha). I had very, very few symptoms, with the exception of a slightly itchy belly and a few slight flutters and movements from Baby Tooth (which I really only tend to notice when I’m sitting at work and working quietly). I also toned it down a bit on the emotional front this week.
Movement: Yup! It’s still really subtle, and I can usually only feel it when I’m quiet and really paying attention. It started out as that little pitter patter I told you about before, but now it’s more like waves and bubbles. It’s seriously the coolest thing ever.
Food Aversions: Nada.
Food Cravings: Nothing too major. There were a few instances where ranch dressing was a necessity. I also had my McDonald’s french fry craving on Sunday. Other than that, I seem to either want Mexican or sweets. Go figure?!
Sleep: Not too bad. There were a few times where I just reeeeally wanted to sleep on my stomach, but it’s just not happening. I’ve also found myself waking up in the middle of the night on my back (which is not recommended) so I asked my doc about it. She basically said that the body will eventually figure out when it shouldn’t be on its back and not to worry about it if I wake up snoozing away face up.
Maternity clothes?: You betcha. Still wearing maternity pants for work, along with a few tops. I can still manage to wear all of my non-maternity jeans as long as they have a hair tie around the button, but we’ll see how long that lasts.
Stretch marks? None so far…but it’s till early.
Miss Anything? I’m pretty good this week (with the exception of a few moments of wanting to have more than a sip of my champagne toast at the wedding).
Fun & Weird Stuff From the Week: No baby dreams for me this week, but Jay actually told me that he had one and that we had a baby girl. She said it was wearing a pink hat just like the one I described in my first baby dream. So weird…? I’m seriously all over the place when it comes to guessing if it’s a he or a she in there. One day I think boy; the next I think girl. I’m done guessing, haha. I think I’m just gonna have to wait a few more weeks for the news.
Baby Items Purchased: I wound up making a couple of maternity clothes purchases from Old Navy last week, so I guess those are really more for me. I am hoping that Jay and I will be able to get out at some point this coming weekend to do some browsing of baby furniture. I was super surprised to learn that some furniture can take up to 16 weeks to come in if you have to order it…say whaaat?!? Since we both have a pretty good idea of what we want, it’s just a matter of finding something good quality that isn’t going to break the bank…HA.
Looking Forward To: Our trip to Mexico!! My friend Andrea and I (both preggo) have talked about how excited we are to hit up the buffets and sip on some virgin daiquiris by the pool.
Question for the Moms:
How far in advance did you purchase your baby furniture? Any tips??
