Aaaaand we’re just movin’ right along!
Baby Tooth is just over 17 weeks today and is about the size of an onion, and I don’t know about you guys but I feel like my belly has some totally odd shape going on. What do ya think? It’s not quite round yet…almost squared off or something? Who knows…it makes me laugh, that’s all I know.
Let’s do a little side by side comparison…
Just look at that belly grow!
Here’s what else Baby Tooth has been up to this week:
- He/she is about 5 inches long (head to rump) and weighs about 5 ounces.
- Baby’s skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it.
- His/her umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and the little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints.
- He/she can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.
And here’s what’s been happening with me this past week:
Weight gained: When I checked in at my 16 week appointment last week, my doc told me that I had gained about 8 pounds overall, which she said is right on target. That definitely made me feel good about things.
Workouts: Had some more good ones this past week! I don’t remember all of them exactly (I really should start writing them down), but I know there were a few walking workouts, some strength workouts, a couple sessions with my pilates DVD and one with my Summer Sanders DVD.
Symptoms: Honestly, most of the time this week, it was super easy for me to forget I even had a little one in there (except when I was trying to fit into some of my clothes, haha). I had very, very few symptoms, with the exception of a slightly itchy belly and a few slight flutters and movements from Baby Tooth (which I really only tend to notice when I’m sitting at work and working quietly). I also toned it down a bit on the emotional front this week.
Movement: Yup! It’s still really subtle, and I can usually only feel it when I’m quiet and really paying attention. It started out as that little pitter patter I told you about before, but now it’s more like waves and bubbles. It’s seriously the coolest thing ever.
Food Aversions: Nada.
Food Cravings: Nothing too major. There were a few instances where ranch dressing was a necessity. I also had my McDonald’s french fry craving on Sunday. Other than that, I seem to either want Mexican or sweets. Go figure?!
Sleep: Not too bad. There were a few times where I just reeeeally wanted to sleep on my stomach, but it’s just not happening. I’ve also found myself waking up in the middle of the night on my back (which is not recommended) so I asked my doc about it. She basically said that the body will eventually figure out when it shouldn’t be on its back and not to worry about it if I wake up snoozing away face up.
Maternity clothes?: You betcha. Still wearing maternity pants for work, along with a few tops. I can still manage to wear all of my non-maternity jeans as long as they have a hair tie around the button, but we’ll see how long that lasts.
Stretch marks? None so far…but it’s till early.
Miss Anything? I’m pretty good this week (with the exception of a few moments of wanting to have more than a sip of my champagne toast at the wedding).
Fun & Weird Stuff From the Week: No baby dreams for me this week, but Jay actually told me that he had one and that we had a baby girl. She said it was wearing a pink hat just like the one I described in my first baby dream. So weird…? I’m seriously all over the place when it comes to guessing if it’s a he or a she in there. One day I think boy; the next I think girl. I’m done guessing, haha. I think I’m just gonna have to wait a few more weeks for the news.
Baby Items Purchased: I wound up making a couple of maternity clothes purchases from Old Navy last week, so I guess those are really more for me. I am hoping that Jay and I will be able to get out at some point this coming weekend to do some browsing of baby furniture. I was super surprised to learn that some furniture can take up to 16 weeks to come in if you have to order it…say whaaat?!? Since we both have a pretty good idea of what we want, it’s just a matter of finding something good quality that isn’t going to break the bank…HA.
Looking Forward To: Our trip to Mexico!! My friend Andrea and I (both preggo) have talked about how excited we are to hit up the buffets and sip on some virgin daiquiris by the pool.
Question for the Moms:
How far in advance did you purchase your baby furniture? Any tips??
Courtney your bump is so adorable now! I think it is a pretty good shape, nothing weird about it ;) Your trip to Mexico sounds amazing, so much fun to go with another pregnant friend – makes it much easier to have someone to sip virgin cocktails with!
Oooo! I love that bump! You definitely look bigger than last week. Do you guys have a JCPenney’s near you? I have gotten a lot of furniture from them that’s high quality and I know they have baby furniture.
I agree with Chelsey – We got our crib on JCPenney.com – We got it half off in a sale and it is amazing. I love it. We do not have a dresser yet – I got cloth bins from Target to put clothes in on the changing table shelves & we hang some in the closet.
Your bump is cute! I did not start showing until Week 20. I love looking back on my blog posts through my pregnancy.
Just saw this video this morning and thought it was pretty funny – Perfect post to comment on!

You look great!
I heard the same thing about furniture, so I think we ordered ours when I was around 22 weeks or so. We ordered at Buy Buy Baby and at that particular store, if you choose the color of the furniture that they are displaying on the store floor, there’s a good chance that they have it in the back, so you can take it home right away. And that ended up happening for us. We were able to get both our crib and dresser/changing table right away.
Also, if you didn’t know yet, you can use Bed Bath and Beyond coupons at Buy Buy Baby … they just can’t be expired. But I don’t think you can use them on furniture. Go figure!
We got ours at Target and they had it right in the store as well!
Congrats!! You look incredible. Quick question from one pregnant lady to another… I’m dying for turkey! I thought I read that you had found some you could eat. What is it and where can I find it? :) this has been a craving for what seems like forever!
Yay I am at the computer and can actually comment instead of reading on my phone!!! Miss the heck out of you and feel like its been forever since we’ve chatted. Boo on that.
You look so great, Courtney! And I used to crave McDs when pregnant with both kiddos. It was the only time I ever wanted it but never failed that when pregnant I craved that greasy stuff.
So exciting! Each time I read your Baby Tooth posts, I get more excited to see what s/he will be like!
My belly was was/is a little squarish too. I think the bigger we get the rounder it will become! Im so glad you posted that about waking up on your back. I had actually written that down as a question to ask my doctor next time. I put I pillow behind my back when I fall asleep on my side but wake up so many times straight on my back and feel HORRIBLe about it.
You look great!
You look great!! The bump sure is growing! I ordered my daughter´s furniture when I was about 25 weeks, a little late! I would recommend to start now, so you don´t have to rush and be stressed later on when you´re more tired.
Courtney, you are so darn cute! I hope I look half as good as you do when I’m pregnant. You are so lucky you’ll have a pregnant friend with you in Mexico..that will make things SO fun :)
Courtney, you look great!!! What a precious lil bump. :) 8 lbs is GREAT! You are definitely all belly and look the same everywhere else! You should feel so proud to be doing such a wonderful job not only taking care of yourself by eating healthy and exercising, but also your sweet “baby tooth”! Can’t wait to find out what you are having. :)
You look so great and I think your baby bump is super cute! I agree with you, feeling your baby move is the coolest thing ever!
Courtney, you’re such a cute prego!! It’s so nice to have pregnant friends around you. I had two other girls in the office while I was pregnant and it was great to talk about things. We actually got our nursary furniture from a friend (hardly used) so we had it by the time I was about 20-22 weeks and while I was traveling for work, the hubby got the some of the room done for me, I was about 25 weeks. It felt good to have things together. Have a great day!
You look great lady! You definitely popped a little this week. ;) How fun! I’ve seen some reasonably priced and quality baby furniture at Babies ‘R Us and Buy Buy Baby. I think it’s ridiculous how much you can buy a crib for these days. A baby is not going to know whether it has a $300 crib or a $2000 crib! Ha!
Your bump is adorable! I can’t believe you’re 17 weeks already.
Aww your bump looks so cute! It will change shape ALL the time! Thats just the baby moving around (:
We are 15 weeks and already ordered our crib (and it arrived!). We bought a white Jenny Lind crib and found an awesome free shipping and 15% off deal from WayFair.com so we went ahead and ordered it :-). We also bought a huge dresser from a thrift store and are almost done refinishing it!
You are such a cute pregnant lady! Enjoy! I loved being pregnant!
You look great! These posts are so sweet, love reading them :)
Ahhhhhh! You are so cute pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait till you have the baby!!
You look so cute! I think it’s neat that you guys are having pretty similar dreams about it. I personally hope it’s a girl, but I know you both will be happy either :)
As far as the furniture goes, it depends on your plans. We used a pack and play in our room for a while, so a crib wasn’t even necessary in the beginning. We got one early, anyway, but we totally could have held out for a sale. We never did buy a changing table. We re-purposed an old white desk I had. It has a few drawers and I put a little curtain over the opening where the chair would go (I hide random stuff under there. We buy diapers in bulk, so I gotta hide ’em somewhere). It works perfectly!
Honestly, the pressure to have a cute/perfect nursery is ridiculous. I chose a theme and decorated, but when we play in there I just keep thinking that in a few years he’s going to want to change this ENTIRE room. I tried my best to at least keep it partially “big boy” looking so that he’d continue to use most of the stuff (hence the desk instead of a changing table).
Eating plenty of Vitamin C and Zinc rich foods – or supplementing with both will help prevent stretch marks! :)
You look so great!!
The bump is a little squared off which is just so cute. It’s crazy how different every person’s ‘bump’ is. My girlfriends is going to have her first baby any minute now and her bump was so incredibly round and right at the front of her.
So cool!
We purchased the crib and dresser (which is doubling as a changing table) around 21 weeks. It only took a week to come in! We ordered the rocking recliner around 24 weeks and they say that can take 4-6 weeks so we are still waiting for it.
Simply gorgeous! You’re glowing!
I love your updates on everything. That’s so neat you’re starting to feel the baby move around a little, must be such a unique and special feeling!
Aww getting closer! It gets so exciting from now on, i’m excited for you! :) I hope you get away with no stretch marks, mine didnt appear until i was 33 weeks, i thought i had got away with them!!
You look so cute, Coutney! That bump is adorable and I think it is just perfect! I love that you craved McDonald’s french fries! That is definitely a pregnancy craving if I’ve ever heard one! I can’t wait to hear about your trip next week. I’m sure you are going to have a blast sipping those non-alcoholic drinks :)
Love the update – you look darling!
I too bought some stuff from Old Navy – big maternity sale so I stocked up for the spring! :) ANd what is it about craving Mexican food while you are pregnant – I could eat it every night. Oh… and I stopped for a small McDonald’s fry today which I never do! Too funny!
Thanks for writing the thing about the furniture! I hadn’t even thought about that, so I am definitely going to look into it now! I also had two dreams about a baby girl, but of course they were weird pregnancy dreams. One of them the baby was even talking to me while breast feeding, lol! Anyways, we found out today that we are having a boy :) Don’t start buying pink clothes yet, haha. I started following your blog a few months ago though, and I have this feeling you are having a girl :)
yea 17 weeks! don’t worry about being on your back…i’m 30 weeks and still wake up on my back (i’ve had friends tell me your legs will fall asleep so i’ll know when i really shouldn’t be on my back anymore?). i’m still not wearing any maternity clothes except for my “belly band”, which i use over jeans that i can’t button or zip. it’s been great for extending the life of my jeans! you can get them at Target (and probably other places for more $$$).
have fun picking out baby furniture!!!
You look so cute!! We got all our furniture at Target. It has lasted through a LOT of moving (at least 6 times taking it apart and back together?) and it’s still holding up for our second baby. Plus, they’ll most likely have whatever you want in store!
I think your belly is so sweet, not weird looking at all. But I can relate. I thought similar of mine at this week. It rounds out in the next few weeks, trust me : )
You are going to have so much fun in Mexico! can’t wait to read about your vacation!
I’m so glad that your blog is back up & running. I was so sad when I couldn’t see Baby Tooth’s update. I just love knowing what that little bean is up to :)
You look so great! I am happy that the blog is back up and running :) I LOVE your baby updates!
Mexican and sweets are my big cravings, too! I’m 34 weeks today. We just got our crib (no mattress yet) and dresser about three weeks ago from Babies R Us. We thought about ordering online, but the quality is so different from crib to crib, we wanted to be able to see it in person to make sure it was good and sturdy.
feeling life inside you is an incredible experience. It was something I missed about being pregnant! I didn’t miss the rib kicking (my son) and the hiccuping (my daughter) did. The hiccuping is the weirdest feeling ever and she had them a lot!! Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your legs when your on your side? It might be more comfortable for you :)
Such a cute update! I’m actually 17 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I was wondering where you bought maternity pants. I’m quickly growing out of mine.. Yikes!
I have some dress pants from Destination Maternity and I just ordered some maternity jeans from Old Navy. Other than that, I’ve been doing the rubber band trick for now! :)
I would definitely start looking at furniture now. I like BuyBuyBaby and Babies R Us the best, but I find that BRU tends to be cheaper with coupons. I just received a coupon for a $250 gift card with any nursery furniture of $1299 or more!! I know that sounds like a ton of money, but it’s really not if you buy quality furniture. Either way, make sure you get on every mailing list…those coupons will come in handy!! For my second baby, I didn’t pay full price for anything!
Have you decided where you are going to register? I started registering as soon as I found out what I was having. This way, I could take my time and make all my changes and have a final list by the time my shower invitations went out.
BTW, I just started reading your blog and I love it! Seeing your pregnancy updates makes me miss pregnant! I LOVED everything about being pregnant (even the stretch marks and aches and pains).
