Well, I’d have to say that yesterday was a bit…frustrating.
As some of you may have remembered from my last bumpdate post (or from reading Instagram), yesterday was supposed to be my scheduled induction date. We were scheduled to be at the hospital at 6am, so to make sure I had enough time to get myself ready and get ourselves there (it’s about 30 minutes away) I was up at 4:30am to start getting ready.
When I came back out from the shower, I noticed that I had a missed call and a voicemail on my cell, and I immediately got the feeling that it was the hospital. Sure enough, it was, and they told me I had to be bumped, to not come in at my scheduled time, and to call back around 9am to see if they had any updates.
At that point, I cried a little. I was already emotional from the night before (psyching myself out and getting anxious over the fact that it was our last night as a family of 3 and saying goodnight to Lucas…ohh, I was a mess) so all of this didn’t really help much. But since, at this point, it was still only about 5:15am, there wasn’t much more to do than go back to sleep. So we did.
We woke up to Lucas a little after 7am and hung out for the morning with him and my MIL (who had stayed the night to be able to be here with Lucas in the morning). We ate breakfast, and I called back the hospital at 9am sharp.
The woman on the phone told me that the hospital was still pretty packed and that they had no beds, but that my doctor wanted me to come in so she could evaluate me. So off we went.
We got there around 9:45am, did the whole registration thing, and I was brought to a triage room where they hooked me up to monitor the baby’s heartbeat and asked me 1,001 questions as part of the admission process. Finally, around 11:30am or so, my doctor came in. She said that it was a mad house there and that if I hadn’t made any progress that I likely wouldn’t be able to stay but she wanted to check. And sure enough, I was still only dilated one freakin’ centimeter.
She apologized quite a few times, but really, it wasn’t her fault. And honestly, if there were other women there in active labor then obviously, they take priority over me who bakes the babies that never want to come out on their own, apparently. But it was just so frustrating (and a little emotionally draining) to have to go through all of that to just be turned away.
So for now, I have a new induction date scheduled for this Friday. I’m trying to tell myself that maybe it all happened because I’m going to magically go into labor on my own at some point today (because I’m not totally thrilled with having to be induced again)…but I’m doubtful. Either way, I’m done with work at this point so if nothing else, it gives me a full day to just hang out and have fun with Lucas.
As for rest of yesterday though, it turned out alright. Jay and I left the hospital a little before noon and stopped at Ruby Tuesday for some lunch. The salad bar sounded too good at that point, and their strawberry lemonade was totally delicious.
We also made a pit stop at Target to pick up a new exercise ball because I haven’t been able to find mine since the move. I figured, hey, I need one anyways so I might as well get it now in an attempt to bounce this little guy out, right?
Oh, and we also made another pit stop for paper towels and Jay came out and surprised me with these pretty purple flowers to help cheer me up. <3
Lucas was napping when we got home, so Jay and I both took advantage and also napped for about an hour ourselves, along with this furry little guy.
Once Lucas was up from his nap, it wound up being a pretty chill afternoon/evening for all of us.
We hung out, played toys, watched a movie, and all took turns bouncing on the new ball. I’m pretty sure Lucas bounced more than I got to…he became obsessed with it!
And now I’m sitting here, bouncing away on my ball, getting ready to finish up this post, and then I’m headed in for a big bowl of ice cream and some DVR’d Bachelorette on TV. As the day has gone on, I’m definitely feeling more okay about how things are going down (even though I’m still totally nervous he’s going to be huge) and I’m just trying to make the most of it.
Everything will turn out the way it’s supposed to, right?
Hope you guys are all having a great week so far, and hopefully, I’ll be checking in with some good news soon!

That is just the pits! I guess June is when all the babies are born then? Gosh i would have been like hysterical I think. I don’t blame you one bit for being emotional. That’s just hard. I will say a prayer for your sanity and that Friday is for sure a go (if not sooner!)

Oh my gosh, this must be so frustrating for you! I’m so sorry. I’m sure your probably inundated with suggestions, but what has worked for SO MANY PEOPLE I KNOW is taking castor oil. My sister, my friends – it just sets things in motion. It can also be unpleasant digestively, so I’d obviously check in with your OB/midwife, but my sister was a week over due, took castor oil, and three hours later had a baby.

I think you are right! Maybe this happened just so your body can do what it is supposed to do.
Keep on bouncing on that ball! Also – cleaning on your hands and knees should help to move things along, and do lots of cat/cows. Anything to get your little guy moving in that direction will help. Our baby was born in January, and things started happening after I chopped ice, shoveled, and mopped our floors. She came naturally at exactly 41 weeks.
Remember you were made to do this, and providing a home for your little guy for the full 40 weeks is absolutely wonderful and the best thing for him. I bet baby comes today or tonight!

What a day, but how sweet is your husband for the flowers? And yes, a bonus day to soak up Lucas and maybe give little one time to come out on his own. Sending lots of good thoughts and well wishes!

I remember the morning I went into the hospital for my scheduled c-section and I was a blubbery mess for all the reasons you described! As frustrating as it was for you, it will all work out for the best. Maybe natural labor!? Cmon baby H!! Good luck, mama.

I was 4 days over due with my daughter when I went into labor. They told me she was very big. And she was…9 lbs 6 oz. But guess what? She came out just fine and I had the natural labor and delivery of my dreams. You can do it, mama!
Erin says
I know how you feel! I was scheduled for an induction at 41 weeks (I also cook babies who don’t want to leave ha!) and got a call that I had been bumped to the next morning. I had a full-on temper tantrum about it! Anyway, it’s totally fine to be upset – but try to enjoy this last day before the new baby arrives! Good luck today & tomorrow :)

Ugh that has to be so frustrating but I do believe everything happens for a reason so hopefully it means things will go perfectly tomorrow (or it will happen today!) Good luck!

I know how frustrating that is, but now you get some more Lucas time!!:) With my third daughter I was certain I was in labor, so off we went only to get sent home because is wasn’t labor. Talk about embarrassing, I mean it was my third time, one would think I would know, lol!
Susan says
Think of it this way…you are much more likely to have a successful induction if your body is closer to being “ready.” In the meantime, enjoy these last few days of sleep and time with your little guy! Best of luck!
Melissa says
Best of luck Courtney! I was induced 15 years ago on 6/10! Its a good day to have a baby.
Lauren @ Oh Hey! I Like That! says
You’re one resilient mama! And everything will turn out fine–maybe that new ball will get that little boy out on its own!
Sara says
Hang in there. I was scheduled to be induced 7 days after my due date and the night before my scheduled induction I went into labor. When i arrived at the hospital @ 6a the next morning, I was already 4-5cm. It can happen!! I’ll say a prayer for your guys.
Katie says
Ugh that is so frustrating! It’s probably great to hear that everyone ELSE is having babies so you can’t ;) If it makes you feel any better, I had an induction scheduled for 7am and wouldn’t ya know? Went into labor around 1:30am. Our sweet lady decided no one was going to tell her when to make her grand entrance! Hoping you have similar luck!
Cat @ Reader/Eater says
your poor round ligaments and hips. sending you pitocin happy thoughts.
Samantha says
Sending you all the good vibes and hoping things progress naturally! I had to be induced too and totally understand the want to experience it happening on its own. Enjoy your extra time as a family of three!
Jessica says
Everything happens for a reason, for sure! you’ll be even closer to being ready on Friday :) Also, I won’t get into what worked to help me go into labor with my two children because it’s slightly not okay to talk about but old wives tales are on to something! Best of luck!
cait @ S U G A R & S A V A G E says
that sounds like such an emotional rollercoaster of a day! so sorry you didn’t get induced as scheduled but it sounds like you are feeling better about it and hey – TOMORROW could be the day!
and what a blessing, too, in that you were sad about the last night “just the 3 of you” and you were able to get a few extra days to cherish those moments :)
good luck tomorrow!
Julie says
Best of luck tomorrow! I’ll be thinking of you & sending good thoughts.

At our hospital, they always schedule two people to come in for potential inductions. With my first, we did get bumped for someone else. My husband was soon mad he couldn’t believe I would get bumped versus this other person – turns out this person had IUGR so they had to be the one and I was just fine with it as I was nervous as hell! Then with my second, I also had to be induced as well, but luckily I was the one that showed up on time that day so I was the chosen one. I was induced 5 days earlier than my first and both babies turned out the same size 8.12! I can’t give you tips as nothing ever worked for me.
Erin says
Ohhhh solidarity!! Our kids are about the same age (I just had my second 3 months ago). Induced at 41+6 for my son and then I was also hoping that I’d go into labor naturally with my daughter – NOPE. Induced at 41+1 with my daughter. My children, like yours, just don’t like to come out on their own. Funny thing is, they both weighed exactly 8lbs, 10.8oz. I’ve been bumped too and it’s just the worst. I’m sorry you’re going through this again and I’m sending speedy labor and delivery vibes to you.

What a bummer!! I was just getting on to check your insta to see if there was a baby picture! I have 4 friends all due this week/early next, so it must be a busy baby season everywhere!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Yes, of course everything will be just the way it should be, but of course it is frustrating. God bless. Good luck. xo Lauren

How frustrating! Enjoy some bonus time with your family of 3. I was induced at 41 weeks with my second and it was a great experience. Good luck to you!

Out baby out!!
Hoping to not hear from you tomorrow (on the blog) hehe! Crossing fingers.

You got this!! You’re so close! I totally understand your frustration. Can’t wait to hear an update!
