Well I think it’s safe to say that we certainly had a pretty awesome weekend, filled with birthday celebrations and fun with friends and family!
Lucas turned the big FIVE on Friday, as you know. Unreal.
And we had a full day of celebrating, starting with a trip to Dave & Buster’s late Friday morning.
Lucas had been a couple of times with my dad before, but it was my first time experiencing the place. Whew, I felt like I was in a casino! Lots and lots of games to be played, but he had a blast.
Better yet, I wound up chatting with my good friend Kanika Friday morning, which resulted in a last minute meet up at the mall to play. Lucas and Kaura always have tons of fun together, and this time was no different, despite not having seen each other in a while.
After Dave & Buster’s, we hit up Johnny Rockets for some lunch and milkshakes.
On our way out from lunch, we wound up getting stuck in quite the storm, resulting in us getting soaked on our run back to the car. It was actually quite comical, and we were both laughing about it.
We drove through the storms over to Jay’s company picnic, where we got stuck in even more rain and storms. Thankfully, they had a large pavilion, so we were all able to hang out in there and enjoy some ice cream from The Snowman ice cream truck (aka, the best thing on wheels, in my opinion).
Milkshakes, ice cream…I mean, hey, it’s only your birthday once a year, right? ; )
After the picnic, we headed back to pick up Alex from daycare, and that area got hit quite hard by the storms that had passed through – there were down trees everywhere!
Finally, we made it home and hung out for just a little while before my parents and mother-in-law came over for some presents, pizza and cake.
I think Lucas definitely had a fantastic start to his fifth year!
Saturday was a pretty quiet day for most of it. We had no plans, so there were some errands and cleaning around the house, including me finally getting to organize our wrapping paper situation. It had been driving me CRAZY.
We later got an invite to our next store neighbor’s house for dinner (which also happens to be Lucas’s BEST buddy), so we made our way over there and enjoyed a delicious dinner, complete with salad, garlic bread, steak, chicken, and veggies from the grill.
SO good! Of course, there was also wine, which was tasting awfully good.
And s’mores for the kiddos, which are always a hit.
The adults were having quite a good time, and after texting with some of our other neighbors, everyone decided that it was a perfect “party in the street” kinda night. So, once all of the kiddos were safely in bed, everyone gathered in the road for a few hours of fun!
Seriously. THE. Best.
Sunday was a little slow going. : )
But we knew the boys needed to get out and do something, so we made the quick drive over to my parents’ house for some pool time.
(I actually had SO many comments when I posted this picture on my IG stories, the bathing suit is this tankini top from JCPenney – I love it, but it’s currently out of stock!).
After some swimming and hot dogs for lunch, we made our way back home for Alex’s nap time, and then we were back out the door a few hours later for a ValleyCats baseball game.
Their stadium is literally less than 3 minutes away from where we live, and we’ve been wanting to bring the boys to a game, but they’re almost always at 7pm which just wouldn’t jive to well with bedtimes. But after talking with my neighbor Tal, we discovered that they actually had a double header on Sunday and the first game was at 4pm. PERFECT!
The boys actually both loved it, especially Lucas, and they were both so well behaved (which went much better than the last time we attempted a game with them both!), which made for a great trip out, and a great end to an awesome weekend.
Once the boys were home, bathed, and put in bed, Jay and I finally cooked up our dinner for the night, which were these Grilled Chicken Burrito Bowls with Avocado Salsa.
OMG, SO good. Tip: Make it easier on yourself and grab a bag of the Uncle Ben’s 90 minute rice so the quinoa is one less thing you have to worry about cooking.
Aaaaaand, that’s a wrap on our fun-filled weekend! Hey, what would you guys like to see around here this week/next week? I need some ideas! Sweet treats? Fitness stuff? Beauty Q&A’s? Feel free to leave any questions below in the comments and I’ll see what I can come up with!

What a fun birthday celebration! I love family / home life posts! You’re style is so down to Earth, and your products you recommend are things I can actually afford. Being a stay at home mom, I can’t afford a $55 shirt, ha, or $87 foundation like so many other bloggers post about. I love just how real you are.

Sounds like a perfect weekend! I would love to hear your thoughts on fitness/food now as a busy mom vs what it used to be for you before kids! Also I love your fashion and beauty posts—any topics in that area are great! I also agree that your down to earth and affordable style is so relatable and refreshing!

I’d love to know how you got your arms looking so slim and toned! Whenever I work out arms, I feel like they just get super big and bulky.

Lucas is growing up so fast! I remember I started following STSL the time you announced your pregnancy around the holidays in 2012 so time sure does fly! The kiddos are growing up to be such handsome fellows!
I made th chicken bowl last week but I made a few adjustments! I threw in fish sticks, macaroni salad, slim Jim sticks and a granola bar! My man saw dinner and said he’d be back and he ended up going to the bar instead. So i gave it to him for leftovers at work today!
