A few weeks ago, Jay and I had a total blast bringing Lucas to a nearby children’s museum.
Unbeknownst to us, the museum is probably only about 5 minutes away from where we live…I was so excited to have something to do so close by!
For the locals, we visited CMOST – The Children’s Museum of Science and Technology. I had seen a few people I know mention it on Facebook, but was always under the impression it was geared towards older kids. After calling them up, I soon discovered that that was far from the case, and that there is plenty for the younger ones to enjoy.
So a couple of days later, we made our way for a visit!
Part of the reason that prompted our trip was after a little encouragement from my friends at FLYJOY. I know I’ve already mentioned them before, but I’m super excited to be teaming up with them in 2016 as a member of their Microadventure Campaign.
Throughout the year, they’ll be encouraging us to take part in mini “adventures” or experiences with friends and family, and this first adventure we went on was, honestly, long overdue. We had so much fun! And, of course, we made sure to pack a few snacks to take along with us on our trip.
The FLYJOY bars are non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, and Kosher D certified. And a portion of the proceeds from each bar are donated to HOPE International, a non-profit that funds small-business loans and business training to those in developing countries.
Not only that, but the bars taste amazing, too! My two favorites so far have been the Cashew Cookie Dough and the Peanut Butter & Jelly.
SO good! And for anyone who’s interested in trying them, I’ve got good news: use code ART25 to get 25% off on your order of FLYJOY bars at flyjoy.com!
But as for our museum trip? So awesome!!
Lucas was most intrigued by the various waterfalls and streams that were located throughout the museum. Even to this day, he still asks to go visit the “wawerfawl.”
They even have a 75-foot long Living Indoor Hudson River exhibit that allows visitors to travel from the river’s source in the Adirondacks all the way to its end, the Atlantic Ocean.
It was really a beautiful, elaborate display.
In addition to that, they also have a pretty impressive collection of living, exotic animal species (like owls, snakes, rabbits, hedgehogs, and more), which are housed in environments that represent their appropriate habitats.
I’m not going to lie…I could have easily done without seeing the snakes. But the owl was pretty darn cool!
They also have a ton of other self-exploratory and hands-on stations throughout the museum for kids of all ages to enjoy. And, as you can see, Lucas had fun getting his hands on just about all of them.
This magnet wall was pretty neat, and Lucas had a blast putting the golf balls in and watching them slide down.
And they even have a few different classroom setups, where they hold various camps, groups, and other activities (Lucas has instructed me to sit in the “gweeeeen” chair here).
We’ve actually since enrolled him in a “Parent and Me” program, which is about 4 weeks into the 5 week session (although he missed last week from being sick). My mother-in-law goes with him, since it’s on the day that he watches him, and they do all sorts of different themed crafts and activities. Although, if I’m being honest, Lucas couldn’t care less about the crafts (we’ve learned it’s not really his thing) and my MIL says they spend most of the hour wandering around the museum instead.
Hey, what can I say? He likes to dance to the beat of his own drum.
Needless to say, we had a total blast on our adventure to the museum, and we’re looking forward to seeing what our next “adventure” prompt is from FLYJOY!
