Chocolate Milk is the Key to His Heart

Every now and then, I like to come up with fun ways to surprise Jay with a little something fun. Granted, I haven’t been as good at doing it lately (just because, you know, life happens…even though that’s the worst excuse ever), but I’m trying to get back in the habit because I really do believe it’s the little things that all add up.

The other day I purchased some chocolate milk for Jay and left it in the fridge for him to find. I was pretty positive this could take a couple of days because, for whatever reason, he wears blinders when he’s looking in there. But sure enough, that same evening, he opened up the fridge and shouted, “BABE. Is this chocolate milk? For ME?”

Truth is, I do most of the grocery shopping around here, and 99% of the time, it doesn’t include chocolate milk. No real reason, really; it’s just that I like to try to stick with just what we need. But I knew that this would get him extra excited.

So I told him, yes, the chocolate milk was a fun little surprise, and it didn’t take him long to break into it. Upon tasting, he proclaimed, “Woah. Okay, this is awesome,” and then proceeded to tell me that, “I like chocolate milk, and if you got it for me out of love, it tastes even better.” Don’t be fooled though, he was kidding. We’re definitely not that mushy.

Of course, I needed to give it a taste for myself right away, and I immediately tasted what he was talking about. I mean, wow. That stuff was seriously delicious.

So what’s the deal with it? Well, it’s actually fairlife ultra-filtered milk, a new-to-me dairy product that I’ve been lucky enough to try. You guys probably know by now that we’re big fans of dairy in this house (remember when I went on the dairy tour last November?), so this was something that I was really excited to try.

fairlife milk

First and foremost, fairlife is real, ultra-filtered milk … only better. A standard, 8oz glass of fairlife milk actually includes 50% more protein, 30% more calcium, and half the sugar of ordinary milk. You can read more about their process HERE, and the way they lay it out on their site is super easy to read and really cute, too!

I also really love the fact that fairlife comes from family-owned farms, where animal care and environmental sustainability are top priorities. When I visited the dairy farm back in November, this was one of the things that really stood out to me, and it’s something I’ve taken into consideration when making decisions on dairy purchases.

fairlife currently comes in four different varieties (chocolate, reduced fat, fat free, and whole), and we tried out both the chocolate and the reduced fat. As you already saw, the chocolate has been enjoyed quite a bit simply by the glass.

The reduced fat has been going perfectly in my coffee, and Jay has also been enjoying it over his cereal as well.

My store didn’t have the whole variety when I was shopping, but should I come across it, it is absolutely something that I would feel comfortable letting Lucas try. Really, it’s regular milk … just with more protein, calcium, and less sugar.

fairlife milk

I would absolutely recommend the fairlife milk to anyone who asks. It’s delicious!

fairlife’s farm families promise the highest quality milk, environmentally sustainable farming practices, and superior animal care. fairlife is ultra-filtered for more natural protein and calcium compared to regular milk. Learn more at fairlife.com

That is so cute that you think of ways to surprise your hubby! What a good idea. I should think of some ways to surprise my hubs too.

Courtney, my husband works for Coca Cola Co., and believe it or not, they are co-owners of Fairlife! He is really excited about it and says the chocolate milk is his favorite, too! By the way, the new blog format is great, but the font is just a touch more difficult to read. It still looks awesome, though!

My hubs is obsessed with chocolate milk. I rarely have even plain milk on hand but when I do, he adds Hershey syrup to it for a dessert ;)

Mmm chocolate milk is so good! I love making a chocolate smoothie with just chocolate milk (I usually use Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk- so good!) and frozen bananas. It's like a healthier chocolate milkshake!

This post made me laugh because the same thing happened but in reverse the other week. Chocolate milk was on sale and my husband bought us two little ones as a treat, man did it taste delicious and it was so nice to find something other then fruit and veggies in the fridge ;) I paid back the treat with some of his favourite olives last week!

Ive been trying to try this meal for so long! I am glad you liked it. I am a stock analyst and cover Coca Cola stock for work. FairLife is a new product by CocaCola as they try to diversify their product offerings to target the more health-conscious market. I am happy to see it is getting positive reviews. Anyways, sorry for the technical comment. I cant wait to try this myself :)

Hi Mabel, We hope you get to try fairlife soon, too! If you let us know where you're located, we can point you in the right direction. Just a minor point of clarification - fairlife has been around for a few years as a start-up in Chicago partnered with a group of dairy farms. We were lucky enough to have Coca-Cola take interest in us and partner with us as our distributors. We make our own milk and our farms remain family owned. The Minute Maid division of Coca-Cola is responsible for getting us distributed throughout the country, which is fantastic! -the fairlife team

I just saw individual serving bottles in Walmart and picked up one of each type. I just had the chocolate and while it was yummy and creamy I was sad to read the ingredients after drinking and see artificial flavoring AND sucralose! My feedback for the company is that cocoa powder and sugar make magic together so there's no need for artificial when it comes to chocolate milk.
