Every now and then, I like to come up with fun ways to surprise Jay with a little something fun. Granted, I haven’t been as good at doing it lately (just because, you know, life happens…even though that’s the worst excuse ever), but I’m trying to get back in the habit because I really do believe it’s the little things that all add up.
The other day I purchased some chocolate milk for Jay and left it in the fridge for him to find. I was pretty positive this could take a couple of days because, for whatever reason, he wears blinders when he’s looking in there. But sure enough, that same evening, he opened up the fridge and shouted, “BABE. Is this chocolate milk? For ME?”
Truth is, I do most of the grocery shopping around here, and 99% of the time, it doesn’t include chocolate milk. No real reason, really; it’s just that I like to try to stick with just what we need. But I knew that this would get him extra excited.
So I told him, yes, the chocolate milk was a fun little surprise, and it didn’t take him long to break into it. Upon tasting, he proclaimed, “Woah. Okay, this is awesome,” and then proceeded to tell me that, “I like chocolate milk, and if you got it for me out of love, it tastes even better.” Don’t be fooled though, he was kidding. We’re definitely not that mushy.
Of course, I needed to give it a taste for myself right away, and I immediately tasted what he was talking about. I mean, wow. That stuff was seriously delicious.
So what’s the deal with it? Well, it’s actually fairlife ultra-filtered milk, a new-to-me dairy product that I’ve been lucky enough to try. You guys probably know by now that we’re big fans of dairy in this house (remember when I went on the dairy tour last November?), so this was something that I was really excited to try.
First and foremost, fairlife is real, ultra-filtered milk … only better. A standard, 8oz glass of fairlife milk actually includes 50% more protein, 30% more calcium, and half the sugar of ordinary milk. You can read more about their process HERE, and the way they lay it out on their site is super easy to read and really cute, too!
I also really love the fact that fairlife comes from family-owned farms, where animal care and environmental sustainability are top priorities. When I visited the dairy farm back in November, this was one of the things that really stood out to me, and it’s something I’ve taken into consideration when making decisions on dairy purchases.
fairlife currently comes in four different varieties (chocolate, reduced fat, fat free, and whole), and we tried out both the chocolate and the reduced fat. As you already saw, the chocolate has been enjoyed quite a bit simply by the glass.
The reduced fat has been going perfectly in my coffee, and Jay has also been enjoying it over his cereal as well.
My store didn’t have the whole variety when I was shopping, but should I come across it, it is absolutely something that I would feel comfortable letting Lucas try. Really, it’s regular milk … just with more protein, calcium, and less sugar.
I would absolutely recommend the fairlife milk to anyone who asks. It’s delicious!
fairlife’s farm families promise the highest quality milk, environmentally sustainable farming practices, and superior animal care. fairlife is ultra-filtered for more natural protein and calcium compared to regular milk. Learn more at fairlife.com
