I have been letting far too much time go by in between these day in the life posts! And considering they’re one of the most requested topics from you readers out there, I’m gonna have to try to make them a little more frequent! If you’re super curious (or nosey, let’s just be honest, I am too!) you can check out the archives of my day in the life posts, too.
Today’s day in the life features a random Wednesday (yesterday) which also happened to be Jay’s birthday! He’s now officially “old” again for the next 6 months, and I don’t let him forget it. ; ) But anyway, here’s a look…these are always a little long, so hopefully you’ll be able to stay with me!
5:20am – Alarm goes off. Nope. Snooze.
5:38am – Alarm goes off for the third time, realize I need to get up now if I want time to fit in my morning workout, so I’m up. Roll into my workout gear (already laid out the night before) and head downstairs.
5:45am – Grab 1/2 of a Clif Z Bar (I seriously love these things, even though they’re “meant” for kids) since it’s one of my favorite quick bites to grab before an early workout. Check my laptop to see what workout is on tap for today then head to the basement; it was Day 10 of my current Fitness Blender program, FB Mass, which was Cardio + Core.
Thank goodness, because the two previous days were upper body and lower body, and my muscles were feelin’ it!
6:08am – Hear the pitter patter of little footsteps upstairs, which can only mean one thing…I’m about to have a workout partner.
6:10am – Lucas finally peeks out from around the corner, and we both finish up my workout together, working on our abs.
(pic obviously not from yesterday morning, but I’m a visual person, so you get a little somethin’ here)
I will say, while I do love the mornings where it’s quiet and Lucas sleeps in a bit, the mornings he’s down with me can be pretty funny. He’ll either play with his toys, or he’ll attempt to workout with me, and he’s always asking questions about if we’re “being healthy” which I love. <3
6:20am – Workout is finished, head back upstairs. I ask Lucas if he wants to start working on making a birthday card for daddy and he says yes, so I set him up with some paper, colored pencils, and markers and he does that while watching a TV show. I head upstairs to shower and get ready for the day. It’s a hair washing day, which will take a little extra time, so I’ve gotta get a move on.
6:40am – Put on makeup, blow dry hair, and get dressed. Today’s outfit is another courtesy of Old Navy…
I told you guys I was going to order more of those swing dresses, didn’t I?! Well, the two I ordered arrived on Tuesday, and I’m just so in love with them. SO cozy!
7:15am – Today is a little different than normal, since our sitter needed to take the day off, so Jay comes to say goodbye and manages to be able to leave for work on time for once (since he’s typically in charge of daycare drop off). I’m finished up getting ready, and Lucas comes up at the same time, so I “challenge” him to get himself dressed before I get Alex up. He’s always wanting to beat Alex (or anyone) with challenges, so this typically does the trick of getting him moving. And it works!
7:20am – Go in to get Alex up. This particular picture isn’t from yesterday morning, but my goodness, that sweet face…
7:30am – Get Alex changed, then me and the boys head downstairs. First things first…COFFEE.
7:35am – Coffee, check! Get breakfast made for both boys; Lucas requests an apple Toaster Strudel, which, I know I know…not the healthiest. But whatever. My rules are that if he wants to have the Toaster Strudel, he has to have something healthy along with it (piece of fruit, an egg, yogurt) and today he picks yogurt. Works for me. Alex wants his usual smoothie, since he’ll pretty much never eat anything else for breakfast besides it.
PIC
Totally fine by me though, because I’m able to pack a bunch into it; we do a banana, milk, a big scoop of peanut butter, occasionally some spinach, ice, and a scoop of OLLY Kids Smoothie Protein Powder (Alex gets one, Lucas gets two). I usually buy mine from Target, but just discovered it’s slightly cheaper on Amazon if you do Subscribe & Save, and since we go through this stuff pretty quick (Alex has one everyday, Lucas has one probably 3-4 days/week) I think I may have to switch.
8:00am – Boys finish their breakfasts, and we all hang out for a bit until my mother-in-law arrives for the day to watch the boys. She typically just watches Lucas on Wednesdays, but today she’s lucky enough to be on double duty. Bless her. Alex discovers the paper and colored pencils Lucas was using to make Jay his birthday card and wants in on the action, so he starts making one of his own.
8:45am – My mother-in-law arrives, we chat for a few minutes, I give the boys hugs and kisses, and I’m out the door. Hopefully they don’t give Mamite (her name, given by Lucas!) too much of a run for her money today! ; )
8:50am – Realize I never ate breakfast or packed anything to bring to work for breakfast, and I’m also still craving more coffee. Sooo, I make a quick stop at the ‘bux for a grande Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew + a Spinach, Feta, and Egg-White Wrap (my favorite!).
This is another old photo that I found because I didn’t think to write this post until later in the day, hence no real time pics! But you get the idea.
9:00am – Arrive at work. Do the usual work thing.
10:30am – Snack time. I’ve been eating cottage cheese with fruit for a morning snack almost every day for weeks now, and I’m still obsessed with it.
I totally get that cottage cheese is one of those love it or hate it type of foods (Jay hates it), but I loooove it.
12:35pm – Have to run to the bank quick to get some cash, only to discover it’s pouring. Good thing I brought my umbrella!
12:45pm – Arrive at bank, get what I need, head back to work.
12:54pm – While pulling back into the parking lot at work, our wedding song comes on and I can’t leave the car until it’s over.
1:00pm – I break into my lunch, which I was SO excited for…a slightly altered version of this Big Mac Cheeseburger Salad. I had originally planned on making them for dinner one night during the week, but thanks to some changes in plans and me buying too much meat before it would go bad, I cooked the ground beef up ahead of time so we could have the salads for lunches instead.
Well, unfortunately, it was not all that good. Which was such a disappointment, because I spent a good amount of time prepping them the night before and had such high hopes! Ahh well, can’t win ’em all.
1:15pm – Back to work, work, work.
3:00pm – Snack break! Loving these Peanut Butter Chocolate RX Bars…definitely my favorite flavor of them all so far.
3:45pm – Done with work for the day, log off, pack up, and head home. On the way home, I call and order takeout from Junior’s for tonight’s dinner.
Jay and I were originally planning to go out for dinner (and, actually, we went to Junior’s for his birthday last year – go figure?!), but since my MIL had already been with the boys all day, we decided to give her a break and just stay in. Besides, there was dessert to be had later…!
4:00pm – Arrive home, and within a few minutes, Lucas is off to go play with at his buddy Kai’s house. They’re pretty much inseparable these days! I chat with my MIL for a few minutes (they both had good days!), and then Alex and I are off for a little walk.
We head down the hill to one of the ponds where we stop and listen to all of the froggies, since it’s one of Alex’s favorites
5:10pm – Get back home, go get Lucas from next door, and Jay arrives shortly after with dinner!
I ordered my favorite, surprise surprise, Grilled California Chicken Cobb salad. It’s just SO good, I can’t not order it.
5:30pm – Finish up dinner, then give the birthday boys his gifts. I will say that gift presentation is not really my forte, but he still loved it all just the same…all of his favorites!
5:45pm – We clean up a bit and hang around inside while playing with the boys, including some hallway bowling with his new bowling set (thanks Ash & Greg!).
6:00pm – It’s time for birthday caaaaaake! And not just any birthday cake…Ooey Gooey Cookies & Cream Ice Cream Cake, at the request of the birthday boy.
Side note, I’m fairly certain I somehow, possibly gave myself frostbite in the tip of my pointer finger while making this the other day. It HURTS!
Happy, HAPPY Birthday, Jay!
7:00pm – We hear a knock on the door, and are surprised by a little drop-in visit from my parents! They stopped in to give Jay his gift, and the boys were thrilled (as always!) to see them.
7:30pm – It’s bath night, and we’re a little later than usual in our nightly routine, so we head upstairs quick before the meltdowns begin and start to mentally prepare ourselves for the chaos that is bath time. Nine times out of 10, somebody winds up either crying or getting in trouble, so it’s always an adventure.
7:45pm – Thankfully, bath time was fairly mellow and we had zero meltdowns. Scorrrre!
7:50pm – Jay takes care of putting Alex to bed because, apparently, I still can’t put him down without him FREAKING OUT when I try to leave the room. Oh yes. This all started on vacation, but then Jay had been putting him down at home since that and he’s been fine. Plus he does down for his naps fine with my sitter, so I assumed we were good. BUT ohhhhh, no. When I tried the night before, he lost his mind; and since the time before that when I tried at home, he flung himself OUT of his crib (not kidding), I don’t have an option of just letting him cry because I obviously don’t want him hurting himself. So Jay swept in and Alex went down for him NO problem…what. the. heck?!
Anyway, long tangent there. Whew. All that to say, Jay put Alex to bed and I put Lucas to bed.
8:05pm – Out of Lucas’s room, head back downstairs. I spend a few minutes finishing up the cutting out of some thank you tags for Lucas’s birthday party coming up on Saturday, and then get working on typing up this post.
I’m trying to work quickly so I can get back in with the birthday boy!
9:05pm – Type up this post to here, save, then go to hang with Jay and turn on an episode of Orange is the New Black. Anyone else watching season 6 yet?? We’re about 6 episodes in so far, we like it! A little bit dark at times, but I’m still totally into it.
10:15pm – Episode over, time to pack it in and head to bed.
10:20pm – Brush teeth, wash face, and lights OUT!

Girl I’m drained just reading about your day! Alex looks so grown up in that pic with Lucas! It’s like he’s 2 years older! And so cute how he puts a blanket on his baby. I do the same for my big stuffed animal. My man got mad tho cause i took his blanket and he ended up getting a cold! Whatchagondo

Yay for a Day in the Life post! 😁 Thank you!
We’ve also been watching OITNB and after feeling like the previous seasons were starting to be a little less enjoyable, we’ve been pleased this far!
