It’s been about a month and a half since I last did a true Day in the Life, and I actually enjoy writing them just as much as I do reading them…so here’s a day in my life on Monday, to be exact!
4:25am – I wake up and hear Lucas having somewhat of a coughing fit on the monitor. He then starts to cry so I go in, give him some water and a few snuggles, then put him back down.
4:35am – Back in bed but, of course, can’t fall asleep right away because I’m watching Lucas on the monitor. He stirs around for a few minutes and then likely falls asleep, I assume, because I did the same.
5:15am – Alarm #1 goes off. Ooooof. Hit snooze.
5:24am – Alarm #2 goes off again. One more snooze.
5:35am – It’s decision time. Do I get up and get my workout in, or do I stay in bed for another 45 minutes. I’m actually feeling semi-awake, so I get up, get dressed, put in my contacts, and head to the basement.
5:45am – Workout time! This morning was a T25 video (Rip’T Circuit from the Beta phase) and it left me nice and sweaty.
6:20am – Chug some water, hop in the shower, brush teeth, put on makeup, and blow dry hair.
7:05am – Hear Lucas stirring on the monitor. Jay goes and gets him up and dressed while I iron clothes, get dressed, and quickly clean up the ends of my hair with the straightener (didn’t have time to curl it today).
- Sweater: H&M from about 3 years ago (similar)
- Pants: Kut From The Kloth Danny 5-Pocket Knit Pant via Stitch Fix
- Boots: Kaylor Slouchy boots via Target (which have certainly taken a beating this winter!)
7:15am – Little man comes in to greet me with me with big hugs and kisses. Love this boy! We all head to the kitchen to get him some milk and I finish packing and prepping lunches for us. Quickly realize I definitely should have spent the time doing it the night before…I hate when I hold off until the morning!
7:35am – Lunches are finally packed, attempt to wrangle up Lucas to get his boots and coat on, grab a handful of TJ’s schoolbook cookies because I’m starving and need something, and head out.
7:45am – We finally make it out of the driveway.
8:00am – Drop Lucas off at daycare (he runs right in today to go play with toys and that makes drop off on a Monday infinitely better), chat with his sitter briefly, then I’m off.
8:10am – Arrive at work, sit down at desk, turn on computer, do a quick check of urgent emails, etc., then head to the kitchen to heat up my breakfast (I’m still starving).
8:15am – Breakfast time. I have some Creamy Crockpot Steel Cut Oatmeal with banana slices and raisins, plus my mug of coffee (I seriously love this oatmeal), and eat while I continue to work through my stuff.
8:30am – Work, work, work!
10:30am – Time for a snack. I finish the other half of my banana from breakfast with some Saratoga Peanut Butter Company peanut butter and extra raisins.
12:00pm – I’m already hungry again and ready for lunch, so I break into my packed salad while I continue to work, knowing that I have to run out shortly. All of the usual suspects are in there – lettuce, spinach, cukes, tomatoes, onion, dried cranberries, avocado, and chicken.
I also have a pineapple flavored Elli Quark, but I’m not as much of a fan of this flavor as I was the others.
12:15pm – Once I finish my food, I quickly bundle up and head out to Target for a few things, one of them being a superhero shirt for Lucas since I noticed on his daycare calendar that Tuesday was “Wear a Superhero Shirt Day.”
It’s funny how your Target trips change quite a bit once kids are involved, isn’t it? Good news though, I found a Batman shirt!
1:15pm – Back to work, work, work.
2:30pm – I wind up having to do a bit of a tedious task this afternoon and find myself in need of a distraction, so I break out my trail mix for a little snack. It does the trick and helps power me through!
Love that stuff from TJ’s, by the way!
3:30pm – Work day is over – time to go pick up Lucas!
3:40pm – Arrive at sitter’s house, greeted with my happy boy, and chat a bit with his sitter about his day. He napped fairly well (a little over 2 hours) but was super picky with his food. Par for the course these days…time to head home.
4:05pm – Arrive at home, unload Lucas’s book bag and lunchbox, as well as my lunchbox. Take a few quick minutes to toss some things into the dishwasher while Lucas plays with his toys, but I’d really rather play with him, so the dishes can wait. Lucas is showing me he’s hungry (aka, he’s rather whiney) so I open up a Nutrigrain bar for him. He eats half and decides he’s done with it, so I finish the rest.
4:45pm – Play time gets moved into Lucas’s room and I multi-task while reading books and putting away his laundry.
This process takes much longer than it really should.
5:00pm – We head to the basement and throw in a load of laundry (which is super small, but I need to wash Lucas’s new shirt by tomorrow) and then Daddy arrives home!
Lucas’s Batman shirt from yesterday
5:15pm – Jay hangs with Lucas for a bit while I get dinner ready for all of us. Thankfully, I had prepped our dinner on Sunday and literally just had to throw it on the oven. So while that baked, I also cooked up some brown rice and sautéed some black beans for me and Jay, along with a little pasta and a hot dog for Lucas (since he’s ridiculously picky at the moment).
5:45pm – Dinner is served. We actually all get to sit down together tonight, which is a nice treat. It definitely doesn’t always happen this way.
6:15pm – Wash up some dishes from dinner, then it’s time to play with some cars and blocks.
7:00pm – Lucas is definitely ready for bed and it’s not a tubby night, so I bring him in to get changed, then Jay takes care of putting him to bed while I take care of some stuff on the computer.
7:15pm – Check through some blog stuff and emails and reach out to Michelle from Baby Bump Bundle. As a side note…
Thanks so much to all of you that entered the recent giveaway with Baby Bump Bundle and I hope you are loving the Tubby Time BabyBundle I created! (Congratulations to Claire, who won the $50 e-gift card to Baby Bump Bundle!). Shop around for mom-to-be, baby, nursing, new moms, and more (click the photo below or go HERE)!
8:00pm – Get myself set up on Skype so I can get ready to chat with the one and only Katy. I’ve been working with Katy a bit on some backend blog stuff, and we spent a good hour or so chatting about a number of things that make my head spin, and make me equally excited at the same time.
9:05pm – Wrap up my call with Katy then head out to the living room with my laptop so I can sit with Jay and finish writing up my blog post from yesterday. By this time, we’re already an hour into The Bachelor, and while I know I should save it to watch the next day, I decide I can’t wait that long and turn it on to watch from the beginning. I also grab two Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies out of the freezer to snack on.
9:45pm – Finish writing up my blog post…The Bachelor is still going strong, though.
10:35pm – Finally finish watching The Bachelor (ahhhh, wasn’t sure I saw that ending coming!) then go to get ready for bed.
11:15pm – Way past my bedtime, but I’m in bed. Set the alarm for a little later because I know there’s no way I’m getting up for an early workout the next morning.
The End.

Brynn says
after I put mitchell down to sleep at 7:30pm all I can muster the energy to do is eat, watch a show from the DVR and sleep. You need a superhero shirt!
Linz @ Itz Linz says

Courtney says
Oh gosh! Fingers crossed for you, mama!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I agree with Brynn–where is your superhero shirt!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely says
Phew…busy day! But lots of yummy eats! What is it about these DITL posts that I love reading?! Lucas in his Batman shirt is too cute!
Question, when you reheat your crockpot oats, do you add any more liquid to them? Didn’t know if they thicken up too much while in the fridge.
Courtney says
Yes! They definitely thicken up in the fridge so I add extra almond milk to mine, heat, then stir to combine. perfection!
Kim @FITsique says
shewwww I’m tired just reading this post! Do you spend most evenings working on blog material? I always feel guilty when I’m on my laptop and my bf is sitting next to me. I feel like I should be more interactive but things have to get done at some point lol
Courtney says
Haha, I’d say it totally depends on the day/week. I try (whenever possible) to at least start drafting some ideas on the weekends (but obviously posts like this I can’t do that!). I’ve gotten to the point where I can usually finish writing one in about an hour, so I try not to take more time than that…but as you know, not always easy! ;)
Taca @ A Side Of Dessert says
I love Day in the Life Posts so thats for sharing but WOW, totally exhausted after reading it! You had a busy day!!
Marielle says
I can’t believe The Bachelor is already down to the final 2! Good job on getting your workout in early, I’m usually an evening workout person but I know that is going to change once my twins get here! Any other workout dvd’s you’d recommended? We have Insanity and I have some Pop Physique (barre) DVDs.
Courtney says
I love so many of the BeachBody ones (T25, PiYo, 21 Day Fix) but I know they’re a little more expensive. Other than that, I’d totally recommend the 10lb Slimdown videos that are on YouTube (for free!) <-- they're some of my favorites!
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
How did you wake up so early and stay up so late? I’m in awe! I have to pick one of the other and even then it’s a struggle.
Courtney says
I honestly have no idea, haha! As I was typing it up I was thinking the same exact thing ;)
Miss Polkadot says
Oh wow … I’m getting tired just reading through all you’re doing in a day. How do you manage this schedule five days a week??? I’m not sure I’d be able to do it. Honestly, you deserve a super mum award – or at least a shirt saying it.
And “Wear a Superhero Shirt Day”? We never had any of those in kindergarten over here – the US is really more on top with keeping things interesting. (:
Courtney says
Awww, haha, thank you ;) But it’s actually not that bad!
Abby says
Ahhh the bachelor does a great job with sucking you in like that. Blog stuff sounds exciting!!
tiff @ love, sweat, & beers says
Busy busy busy! I love these, possibly because our schedules are so similar. I *try* to get up at 5:30 or 5:45 to workout before Ethan gets up at 7-something (don’t you hate it when they wake early though? ugh), but today wasn’t my day. I hope to at least squeeze in some yoga on my lunch break or before I got to bed, which is ridiculously early at 9pm. Wish me luck!
PS – Your salads always look so much better than just… salad.
Courtney says
Hahaha, thank you for the salad compliment ;) and good luck on the yoga lunch break!
Shawna says
way to pack so much in, girl! love the idea of a super hero shirt day. so much fun.
Autumn (@Beautifully Gray) says
Love the little Batman shirt! Lucas is too cute :)
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Wow, your day is so full! Impressive that you got up to work out too-you go girl.
I wish I could stay up until 11-I’d get so much more done, but I’m toast by 9 :/
Courtney says
I typically am too, haha…Monday was a phenomenon ;)
Monica says
I love themed days at Harlow’s daycare, too!
Courtney says
Aren’t they great?! We have another PJ day coming up soon, which is always a favorite ;) What other ones does Harlow have??
Monica says
Harlow has had several PJ days, a princess day… um… I know there are more, but I’m blanking. The princess day was awesome. She looked so pretty!
Cassie @ Findley Fit says
I love reading day in the life pots! I do T25 off and on and really like the conveniance of the workouts. I just started the Daily Burn and I LOVE it. There are tons of options, currently I am doing the Black Fire program which is about 30min and is intense!!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
You really fit a lot into your days! And I look forward to the exciting blog updates!! :)
Courtney says
Haha, it may be a little while for any updates…I need to wrap my head around them all! ;)
Kelli Rudolph says
Hi Courtney
I made a batch of the steel cut crockpot oatmeal this weekend and my family loved being able to personalize it with their own add-ins :) But, we had a bunch leftover and I stuck it in the fridge to try and save for use during the week and it ended up getting all … congealed (can’t think of a better word). Even after warming it up it was all stuck in big gooey clumps and just not good anymore. Any tips on how you keep it for use during the week?
Kelli Rudolph says
Never mind … just saw that you add more milk before reheating! Will give that a try! Thanks :)
Courtney says
Haha no worries! But yes, mine gets similar…add some milk and you’re good to go!
Jamie @ Dishing Out Health says
Seriously, had to whip out my jar of PB here at my desk as soon as I saw how good those oats looked! Haha I can’t wait to try that recipe!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Holy moly that’s a long day! Get it girl!
SUE says
LOVE your MAKE UP BRUSHES IN A LEATHER LOOK POUCH!!
PLEASE WHERE DID YOU PURCHASE THE SET AND HOW LONG AGO??
IS IT REAL LEATHER?
Courtney says
Thanks, Sue! I don’t think they’re real leather, but I believe they came from Sephora a few years ago!
