Even though these posts can take a little longer to put together, they’re still always fun to write up (you can check more of them out here)! Here’s a look at my day this past Monday…and it’s a little bit long. Don’t say I never warned ya!
6:00am – Alarm goes off (no more early morning workout alarms for me right now!). Still hit snooze because there is never enough sleep these days.
6:18am – Alarm goes off for the third time…might as well get up.
6:20am – Shower, wash hair, brush teeth, put on makeup, dry hair, and get dressed.
7:15am – I’m still finishing up getting ready and Lucas is awake. Jay usually goes downstairs to make Lucas’s lunch while I get Lucas up, but since I did that the night before, Jay goes to get him up for me.
7:25am – I head downstairs to put together a salad for myself for lunch and am soon greeted by the boys! I finish up making my lunch while Lucas sits at the island with me and informs me he wants a smoothie for breakfast.
7:27am – Stop making my lunch and start putting together Lucas’s smoothie. He loves helping, which is great, but usually adds a few more minutes to the process. ;)
7:50am – Attempt to clean up some of the mess from making his breakfast and my lunch, grab something else quick for my breakfast, wrangle up Lucas, get on shoes, pack up lunchboxes and bags, and we’re eventually out the door 10 minutes later.
8:00am – Debate on stopping at DD’s for a cookie dough iced coffee but a) we’re running a little later than usual, and b) they haven’t gotten my order right the last three visits, so I decide to skip it and just make one at work instead.
8:10am – Drop Lucas off at daycare. He doesn’t want me to leave today and puts on quite a show which, of course, brings on the mommy guilt. Mondays are always toughest for me at drop off! Thankfully, his sitter tells me that it usually lasts for about 30 seconds after I leave which helps.
8:20am – Arrive at work. Get my computer up and running and go quickly make an iced coffee in the kitchen.
8:25am – Go through my email inbox, which is a bit larger having come off of a weekend, and work on responding to those while eating some breakfast.
Today was just something I could grab quick, which is a vanilla yogurt with strawberries and Quaker Oatmeal Squares, along with my iced coffee.
9:00am – Continue to work, work, work!
10:00am – Look at my calendar for work and realize that I’m supposed to do an upgrade/change for a customer tonight at 6pm from home, but I’m supposed to be out to dinner with my friend Heather at this time. CRAP! Text Heather to see if she can adjust our meeting time, which she can. Whew!
10:30am – Start to get hungry so I grab a snack. Today is a Clif Kit’s Organic Dark Chocolate Almond Coconut bar, which tastes SO good. I don’t remember enjoying this flavor as much the last time I had it, but it totally hit the spot today.
11:00am – Get a text from our friend who does our taxes, who reminds me that my quarterly tax payments for the blog are due by today. Crap…I just sent out the checks to the IRS and NYS for last year’s return and completely forgot about my quarterly payments being due. #taxesaretheworst
11:45am – Finish up a few things I was working on then quickly run home so I can take care of the tax stuff. I had my lunch already made, so I brought it home with me and scarfed that down while writing out the checks.
This salad was delicious. I didn’t have any grilled chicken on hand, but I did have a hardboiled egg, so I used that for my protein, and the whole thing was just perfection.
12:00pm – It doesn’t take me long to finish eating and taking care of the taxes, so I take advantage of the extra time and squeeze in a quick, 25 minute barre workout from Grokker!
12:25pm – Done with my workout, chug some water, then shoot out the door to head back to work. I got a little more sweaty than I had hoped (I didn’t even change my clothes, so gross right?!), but I ride with the AC turned on to help cool me off and all is good.
12:40pm – Back at my desk and back to work. I feel like I can hardly get anything done with all of the different questions I’m getting from people today, but I work through what I can, as quickly as I can.
2:30pm – Start to get a little hungry again, so I grab the random burger bun that I wrapped up before leaving the house in the morning (so random, I know) and slather it with peanut butter for a little afternoon snack. It does the trick!
3:30pm – Finish up with work for the day, pack up, and go get Lucas.
3:40pm – Find out that Lucas didn’t nap (again) at daycare, and only had about half of his lunch (typical). He also appears to be rather grumpy, and shortly after we get outside to get to the car, he bolts away from me to the point where I have to go sprinting across their neighbor’s lawn to get him so he doesn’t go over to the main road.
3:45pm – Finally get him back into the car and we’re both a little pissy at this point. ;) I finally regain my breath (whew…sprints and I are not meant to happen right now) and my composure, and try to get Lucas in a better mood…even though all he feels like saying to me at this point is NO! NO MOMMY!
4:00pm – Arrive at home. We have a chat inside about listening to mommy/not running away when asked to stop/etc. He’s still being a bit bold with an attitude, so he winds up in a time out. I take advantage of this time to unpack his bag and lunchbox and let myself regain my cool.
4:03pm – (I think – we usually do 2-3 mins for a time out) I relieve Lucas from time out, we give hugs, and then I ask him if he’d like to go outside and play. I don’t think he’d been out all day and, despite the fact that he didn’t nap, knew he needed to burn off some steam/energy.
4:05pm – We head outside and all he wants to do is play with bubbles. It’s totally a thing lately, and if we make one bubble, we make 1,000. Unfortunately, because he’s overtired at this point, he keeps getting grumpy when he can’t catch all of the bubbles. All I can do really is chuckle at this point.
This is a random photo from yesterday because I never took any on Monday afternoon and needed something to break up all of this text.
5:00pm – Jay arrives home from work (a little earlier than usual!). He wants/needs to do some raking in the yard so he can put down grass seed and fertilizer, so I just remind him that I need to be free by about 5:45 so I can get ready to do the work I need to do while logged in at home. Lucas and I continue to play outside and I successfully sway him away from the bubbles and into the sandbox.
5:30pm – Convince Lucas to come inside with me quickly while I throw together some dinner for him (totally unprepared tonight) by telling him we’ll have a picnic out on the front porch. I reheat a leftover burger and some green beans for him, along with some baby carrots and cheese. So random, so not the healthiest…but I at least tried to hit a few food groups so it’s ok, right? ;)
5:35pm – We have our picnic outside and I give Jay a friendly reminder that I need to start getting ready to log in to work so I can finish and head out for dinner.
5:45pm – Jay finishes up his work, Lucas isn’t really into his dinner (too distracted with being outside), and we all head in. I log into work and get things prepared for the changes I need to make at 6pm.
6:00pm – Sit at the computer, make the changes I need to make quickly and successfully, and I’m done in about 5 minutes. Woo hoo!
6:05pm – Ask Jay if he can quickly take a couple bump pictures for yesterday’s bumpdate post because I know I won’t want to bother by the time I get home.
6:15pm – Log off of work, give my boys hugs and kisses, and I’m out the door to meet my friend Heather for dinner. The boys have a great time while I’m gone, mostly because Lucas got to see the sprinklers in action again. He’s such a character.
6:30pm – Arrive right on time for dinner with Heather at Bellini’s Counter in Latham.
I order a grilled chicken wrap with all sorts of toppings, including sundried tomatoes, artichokes, and a creamy garlic parmesan dressing that was out of this world. We grab a seat outside and catch up for a good hour and a half or so. It’s always so great to catch up with my Nutjob!
8:00pm – Say our goodbyes at dinner and head home. On the way, I get a craving for cookie dough ice cream from Stewart’s, so I stop and grab a half gallon, along with some cones. Because I’m really craving an ice cream cone.
8:25pm – Arrive home, catch up with Jay on their evening, and then check my phone to see that there is an issue with work. I log back in to work with my computer at the kitchen table while trying to go through emails and chatting with Jay at the same time. Thankfully, the issue doesn’t involve much work on my end, so I’m able to log back off within about 15 minutes.
8:40pm – Continue to sit at my computer and type up my bumpdate post for the next day while also going through a few personal emails in my inbox (I’m a bit behind at the moment…).
9:05pm – Finally finish up my post, close up shop on the computer, and go make that ice cream cone I’d been craving.
It’s amazing.
9:15pm – Cozy up on the couch with Jay and my ice cream cone and we watch our DVR’d episode of Quantico (this show has me HOOKED, but at the same time, I’m ready to finally just know what the heck is going ON?!).
10:00pm – Get ready to head upstairs for bed and we go in to say goodnight to Cody (who is still confined to the office at this point) only to realize he had thrown up on the rug. Great. I grab some paper towels, Jay gets the carpet cleaner, and we tag team getting all of that mess cleaned up. Gross.
10:15pm – Upstairs, face washed, teeth brushed, PJ’s on.
10:30pm – Finally in bed. Realize I prepped nothing in advance for the next day but, at this point, I’m wiped! It’ll just be another hectic morning.
And there’s a look at Monday! What is the busiest/most hectic part of YOUR day?
Here's a day in the (busy but fun) life of a pregnant working mom! Click To Tweet
Brynn says
Taxes, a runner and extra work is a tough start to the week. But an ice cream cone would be my preferred way to end the night as well! Yum!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
Busiest part of my day is definitely trying to get myself and William ready for work / school! Great job momma!
Jessica says
You are so busy and such an amazing mama. Way to get everything done with a smile on your face even when you didn’t have anything prepped. <3
Courtney says
Haha, some days are certainly busier than others! :)
Katie says
How do you make iced coffee at work? We have several coffee options at work but I haven’t perfected iced coffee yet.
Courtney says
We have a Keurig in our office, so I just fill a glass with ice and have it brew on the 4oz setting. It makes about a full cup…but all that said, it’s still not that great ;)
Shawna says
such a busy day! you’re supermom/woman on this day. workout, best friend date, mommy time, wife time, work… seriously, good for you for being able to balance it all and have such a sense of joy in the process! that’s amazing and inspiring.
Shawna says
wow what a busy day for you. you seriously were super mom/wife on this day — so inspiring that you can pack so much goodness and busy-ness into a day (mom time, bff date, workout, work, time with hubby) and still have so much energy and optimism! it’s amazing how we can be on the go non-stop some days and as long as we get to fill some of that time with people and things that bring us joy, we wouldn’t change a thing.
Taylor says
Love these posts!! My mornings can be pretty hectic/busy if I don’t prep my lunch/breakfast for the next day in advance. Girl, I am so hooked on Quantico too and am dying to know who the real bad guy is!!! When are they gonna tell us!?!?
Karen says
This sounds like a lot! Mornings are always hectic here. I have a one year old and a two year old so getting out of the house is a challenge when two little people un do everything I do. ;) Are you planning to continue working when #2 comes? Are you sticking with the same daycare or sending Lucas to preschool?
Courtney says
Yes, definitely planning on going back to work after #2. Lucas is going to be starting preschool in the fall but it’s only 2 mornings a week. Our current daycare situation is going to be changing as well and we’re still trying to work out all of the details of that (which is not easy!)
Donna Mason says
I absolutely LOVE your blog. You are an amazing wife, mother, daughter and friend. Where did you get your checkbook cover please?
Courtney says
Wow, thank you Donna! It’s a Vera Bradley checkbook cover! :) I think I found it at a boutique FOREVER ago!?
Em @ Love A Latte says
My day looks a lot like yours! Mornings are crazy and sometimes I do really well prepping for the next day at night and sometimes I’m kicking myself come morning when I haven’t done anything. Mondays are definitely the worst with dropping my son off at daycare…oh mommy guilt. My sitter too says that my son calms down about 30 seconds after I’m out the door (thank goodness!). I laughed when you talked about Lucas running across the street outside. It’s a miracle if I can actually get my little guy inside when we get home and get dinner started. He hates to come inside when the weather is nice. Thanks for sharing your day!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says
What a crazy day! Definitely the kind of day that ends with ice cream :)
