Considering the last time I did a Day in the Life post was almost a YEAR AGO (whaaaaat?!) I figured it was time for a new one. Personally, I think I probably enjoy going back and re-reading my old ones more than anyone else, so I’m totally writing this for selfish reasons, too.
So here’s a look at my Tuesday, which is a work in the office day!
2:00am – Wake up to the sounds of Lucas yelling, “Mommyyyyyyyy.” Give him a second to make sure he’s not talking in his sleep. He’s not. I head in to find out that he couldn’t find his teddy, who happened to be all shuffled in with his blankets. Problem solved.
2:15am – Still awake (as is Lucas) and all of a sudden my nose just will not stop running. This has sort of been a ‘thing’ for me on and off these past few weeks and I can’t figure out why. It happens with the windows open and the air on. I’ve tried changing the sheets, changing pajamas…no idea what the culprit is. But whatever it is, it’s enough to keep me awake and decide to head down to the couch since I’m having to blow my nose every few minutes. UGH.
3:00am – After scrolling through my phone for a bit I decide to finally try to get back to sleep.
6:00am – Phone alarm goes off. Nooope. No workout happening this morning. Snooze.
6:37am – Phone alarm goes off for the (3rd?) time and I realize I should probably get up and showered.
7:15am – Showered, makeup on, but I need to stop and go get Alex up and ready so he has some time to eat breakfast before Jay brings him to daycare. Somewhere along the line, Lucas woke up and joined me, and actually ended up snapping this picture, which I did not realize until I went looking through my photos.
7:20am – Bring Alex downstairs, get him some milk, a banana, and some Cheerios. He always LOVES his milk, but breakfast has been hit or miss lately. He eats most of the banana and some Cheerios, and then he and Jay are out the door for the day.
7:45am – Head back upstairs. Put on an episode of Blue’s Clues for Lucas on the Roku while I blow dry and curl my hair.
8:10am – We head downstairs and I try to get Lucas to tell me he wants for breakfast. I’m getting nowhere. So I pour myself a mug of coffee and check through some emails.
8:20am – Still unsuccessful at getting Lucas to tell me what he wants for breakfast. Cars and trucks are too important this morning.
8:30am – My mother-in-law arrives for the day to watch Lucas. Lucas eventually decides on an english muffin with peanut butter, which is barely getting touched by the time I need to head out. I didn’t finish my mug of coffee but didn’t want to waste it, so I bring the rest of it with me in the car.
8:40am – I finish my coffee from home pretty quickly but still need some more. I’m tired. And I’m craving iced coffee now. So I make a quick stop into Starbucks.
I tried just a regular sweetened iced coffee with whole milk for a change, but it wasn’t my favorite. Too sweet.
8:55am – Arrive at work. Go through emails, start working on some tickets, catch up with a couple of coworkers.
9:45am – I realize I still haven’t eaten my breakfast (seriously…how that happened is beyond me) so I break out my container of overnight oats that I prepped the night before.
This one was just a simple batch made with oats, almond milk, chia seeds, cinnamon, and brown sugar, topped with some blueberries and peanut butter. Mmmmmm.
11:00am – Meeting time. Still working on that iced coffee. Super bummed about and wishing I just stuck with my regular (1 pump white mocha + whole milk). Next time.
11:30am – Meeting is over, head back up to my desk and back to work!
12:00pm – I’m hungry already, so I open up my lunch, which is a delicious salad topped with lots of baked, Italian-marinated chicken, and scarf that down while I write out a quick list of things I need to go and grab from Target.
12:10pm – Done with lunch and plan on heading out the door, but I have a few people who’ve come to me with questions so I work with them for a bit and finish up what needs to be done. Also shoot a couple quick emails back and forth with Katy, who switched up the blog header for me (and I LOVE it – so simple!!). What do you guys think??
1:30pm – Finally out the door! First stop – a quick stop at the gas station, since my empty light was ready to turn on aannnnny second.
And then another quick run to Target.
I didn’t have too many things I needed, but I did happen to grab a couple of these tees that were on sale 2 for $14 (and so very strategically placed right as you walk in). I’ve basically lived in Target’s v-neck tees all summer!
2:10pm – Back at the office.
2:15pm – I decide to break into a snack of trail mix, which I actually put together earlier in the morning at home.
I always love tropical paradise mixes of trail mix, but they never seem to have enough nuts and a lot of fruit, so I like to add in some natural almonds to balance it out. SO good!
(That particular brand of trail mix is from Boxed – we LOVE Boxed! Have you tried it yet??)
2:20pm – Work, work, work.
4:00pm – Done for the day!
4:05pm – Make a pit stop at Stewart’s for some milk for the boys. These days, we’re averaging about 3 days for a gallon of milk, and I’m pretty sure I should just start buying two at a time. I debate on picking up a half gallon of my favorite ice cream, but I talk myself out of it. I’ve been trying really hard to go easy on the nightly ice cream; it’s been getting out of hand.
4:15pm – Make another stop at the post office to mail out some goodies to some of the girls on my Usborne Books team! I’m now officially known at the post office as “the book lady.”
4:30pm – Arrive at daycare to find my Alex covered in sand from the sandbox. He looks like he’s having such a great time with the other kids (and just being dirty). I love it.
I chat with his sitter and her daughter for a bit before we head on home to go see Lucas.
4:45pm – Arrive home, and find that Jay got out of work a little early and is working on mowing the lawn, while Lucas and my mother-in-law are outside playing!
FYI: Don’t anyone go crazy on me…the mower was off in the pic above ; )
4:50pm – We all play outside for a while!
I seriously do not know what we will do come winter time when this can’t be a regular part of our daily routine. I think it’s time we move south.
5:10pm – I know the troops are going to start getting hungry soon (the boys are usually ready to eat by 5…) so we head inside. I get started on dinner and Alex is clearly not having it, so it looks like he’s gonna have to have his dinner first. That’s not out of the norm, but I always make it a goal that we can all sit and eat together (even if it does only happen like, 20% of the time).
5:50pm – Dinner is ready! On the menu tonight? Smoky Caramelized Onion Burgers (SO GOOD!!) with some butter noodles and green beans on the side.
Since Lucas is hit or miss with burgers, he has some leftover grilled “chicken fries” (aka, grilled chicken pieces cut into fries…whatever works!) with some baked sweet potato chunks. And he actually eats it. ALL of it.
Alex had been finished with hid dinner by the time we all sat down, but thank goodness for puffs to help extend that dinner time just a weeeee bit longer so I can eat my meal without him wanting to climb all over me.
6:15pm – Dinner is done. I don’t have the desire to tackle any sort of dishes right now, mostly because it’s already getting late and I’d rather go play with the boys for a bit. So the dishes will have to wait.
6:15pm – Play tiiiiiime!
And now I get to have Alex climbing all over me. ; )
6:50pm – Tubby time! If we can, we try to do tubbies every other night, but that isn’t always easy in the summer. Especially if the boys are at daycare and playing outside!
7:10pm – I get Alex ready for bed and Jay takes Lucas. Alex is still holding strong to his nighttime bottle (regular whole milk), but we are trying to slowly reduce how much he gets (mostly because the stinker keeps peeing through his freakin diaper every night!). I’m also apparently still holding strong to my sunglasses…
7:15pm – Finish his bottle, read a couple of stories, and Alex is in bed. I finally get a chance to change into some cozy clothes <3 <3 <3
And re-fold a hamper full of the boys’ clothes which had gotten knocked over earlier in the morning.
7:25pm – Come back downstairs. Scope out the scene. My mother-in-law was amazing and took care of doing all of the dishes for us (!!) so all that’s left is cleaning up the living room situation. I’m definitely not consistent enough with making the boys actually do this themselves. Maybe one of these days. But right now, it’s not happening.
7:30pm – Park it at my desk. Respond to some messages, start drafting up this post, and work on putting together a welcome packet for someone who decided to join my Usborne Books team today!
8:50pm – Just got to this point in my post! At this point, I’m going to finish typing up this post, respond to a few more messages, grab myself a yogurt with some crushed Oreos on top (AHHH!), and park it on the couch to start watching tonight’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise that I started taping at 8pm. I don’t know about you guys but I live for this show every summer, and I’m not even kidding. The DRAMA…gahhh it’s the best!
If I had to guess, Jay and I will probably try to catch up a bit more about our day while we finish watching that episode around 10pm, and call it a night from there.
So there’s Tuesday for ya!

LOL on Alex with his tongue out! And where did Lucas get his teddy from? I’ve seen it in many pics and I want to get one for my nephew!

Oh man it was so nice in the winter when we could do tub every other or every couple nights… Now with sunscreen and getting dirty outside, it’s definitely more of a nightly occurrence! Tubby time is always fun though, so there’s that :) Have you tried the Honest overnight diapers? They’re the only ones we’ve used that don’t leak!

I always love seeing how people’s days vary from mine. I don’t have kids so our days are quite different, but it’s still fun to see! Also, love the new header! (Not sure if it’s that new but I just noticed it!)
Courtney says
It is new! Thank you!!

I love these “day in the life” posts! Looks like it was a good day! Mine totally looked different from yours since we don’t have kids yet, but I did take my nephew Gio for ice cream and spent some time playing with him and Enzo. And, I love your new header! So cute!! Have a great day! Xoxo

Love your blog! I am expecting my first child (a boy!) in early December, and it’s nice to get a sense of what life might be like through your postings :). Question for you that I have always wondered: what kind of work do you do for your “day job”? Also, I, too, live for Bachelor in Paradise each summer. Total guilty pleasure!

Maybe someone has already suggested this, but have you heard of/tried diaper boosters at night? We used them for about 6 months since my little guy was leaking through his overnight diaper every night. I got these: https://www.amazon.com/Sposie-Booster-Diaper-Doubler-Count/dp/B0083973FK/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1502989186&sr=1-1&keywords=sposie+diaper+booster+pads

Love this post! As a working mom of 2 little ones, our work week (or ahem, just life in general) is pretty chaotic. I love to see how everyone else wanders through the chaos to try and learn a trick or too! Your day sounds very familiar to mine. Thank you for these types of posts!
