Happy Wednesday, friends! I’ve got a day in the life post for ya today, with a little WIAW thrown in the mix. This is a look at my Monday of this week, so let’s get right to it!
5:15am – Alarm goes off. Hit snooze.
5:24am – Alarm goes off again. I roll over and hit snooze because I’m planning on skipping my workout (Lucas had gotten up twice during the night…seriously, what happened to my 12-13 hour a night sleeping child?!). Look at the monitor to see him rolling around and then…BAM. He’s awake again. Because he lost his freakin’ paci. Again. I know, I know…we need to ditch that thing.
5:30am – Go in, find paci, give it to Lucas and lay him back down.
5:31am – Debate on crawling back in to bed for another half hour but I’m already up and whatever sleep I get wouldn’t be that awesome anyways, so I throw on my workout clothes and put in my contacts.
5:35am – Workout time! Over the weekend, I started doing some of the T25 alpha videos, and continued on with them today with the Ab Intervals video. I hadn’t touched any of the alpha videos in a few months and it’s been a great change of pace…I’m tempted to say some of the alpha videos (phase 1) are tougher than the others!
6:15am – Workout is finished. Chug some water, shower, brush teeth, put on makeup.
6:50am – Realize that I never cooked up any protein for my salad so I run to the kitchen to hard boil some eggs.
6:55am – Dry hair, attempt to quickly curl hair, get dressed.
7:10am – Lucas is up! Jay gets him up and dressed while I finish putting together Lucas’s food for the day and my own.
7:32am – Time to get ready to head out the door. Attempt to wrangle up the child to put on his socks, shoes, and coat.
7:42am – Ten minutes later…and we’re finally ready!
8:05am – Drop Lucas off at the babysitter’s house. I was prepared for full on crying this morning, thanks to him being away for two weeks, but the bribery of being able to play with trucks eases him into the playroom and I sneak out the door. I hate not always being able to say goodbye then and there, but I’d rather do that then have to walk out the door and see him reaching out for me and crying. Those days are. the. WORST.
8:15am – Arrive at work. Turn on computer, check emails and tickets, and get settled in for the day.
8:25am – Breakfast time! I should have eaten a snack at home after working out, but I never got the chance so I’m starving. Today’s breakfast is Julie’s PB cookie dough overnight oats + coffee in my new mug (Jay got me this one for Christmas – looove it!)
8:30am – Work, work work!
10-something am – Power goes out. Whaaaat?! It’s only out for a minute or so, but just long enough to loose everything I’d been working on.
10:30am – Take a little break to chat with some co-workers. Today’s convo is mostly baby talk along with some postpartum hair loss…no surprises there.
11-something am – Power goes off again. Wahhhhhh!!! Out for less than a minute, but still…super lame.
12:00pm – Lunch time! I typically like to eat lunch a little later, but breakfast kept me full all morning and I was ready to get. I eat my prepped salad, complete with some veggies, croutons, a hard-boiled egg, 1/3 of an avocado, and some goat cheese. I totally forgot to pack salad dressing but this salad did not need any at ALL. Soooo good! I eat my salad while checking some of my personal emails.
12:45pm – Work, work, work!
1-something pm – SERIOUSLY. Power goes out for the third time. Ay yi yi.
2:00pm – Snack time. I’m not necessarily hungry, per se, but I’m in the mood for something sweet so I eat my packed yogurt and two amazeballs (be sure to enter the giveaway from yesterday’s post!)
3:30pm – Work day is overrrrr! Time to go pick up my little man.
3:40pm – Arrive at the babysitter’s house and am greeted with biggest, sweetest smile and hugs. Gosh, I missed him today. Chat with his sitter about possibly having an adult/kiddo play date some evening soon. We all get along so well and Lucas is actually in the same soccer class as his sitter’s son. They’re buddies!
4:15pm – Get home. Lucas took a good nap at the sitter today so no afternoon nap is on tap. I empty lunchboxes and his book bag, review his daily notebook, clean up some dishes in the sink, and take out some ingredients for tonight’s dinner while Lucas plays with his letter magnets on the side of the fridge.
4:25pm – Playtime! Lucas is looking for some undivided attention from Mommy, so I leave the dinner stuff and we play for a bit. I don’t mind this one bit. The two of us also share a banana for a little snack.
5:00pm – Start to get dinner ready while intermittently playing with Lucas. He’s starting to get hungry so his ability to keep himself amused is dwindling.
5:25pm – Daddy is home! Good timing too because Lucas was more than ready to eat and our dinner was just about ready too.
5:35pm – Dinner time. On the menu tonight was one pot Burrito Bowls, which was absolutely delicious! I mean, anything with one pot is basically an A+ in my book, but it tasted great and worked for the whole family.
6:00pm – Clean up from dinner (not too bad tonight!) and then the three of us play cars, read some books, and make pizza (“pizahpizah” as Lucas would say) in his play kitchen. See the box of chocolates on the kitchen counter and grab a dark chocolate salted caramel. OMG they’re so good.
6:40pm – Tubby time! Jay and I usually take turns with bath night, and technically he wasn’t due for a tubby, but Lucas had a pretty massive poop right before this and also got applesauce in his hair at dinner, so it was needed. After his tubby, he brushes his teeth (aka, sucks on the toothbrush until mommy brushes them) and I get him changed into his jammies.
7:00pm – Lucas hangs out with daddy on the couch while I get his bottle ready. This has been a thing for the past couple of nights; Lucas actually sits on the couch with Jay (shocking, for the boy who NEVER sits) and they name off different body parts. Right now we’ve got: head, hair, eyes, nose, ears, teeth, chin, belly, hands, belly, knees, and toes. We’re currently working on cheeks. It’s so stinkin’ adorable, and I just sit back and watch, letting them have their time. These moments are some of my favorite.
7:15pm – Jay puts Lucas to bed while I put some finishing touches on a blog post (Tuesday’s post, actually – have you entered the giveaway yet?!), start a draft for another one, and work on some picture editing.
7:50pm – Done with the computer for the night. Head out to the living room and plop down on the couch with Jay and Cody. I don’t have any lunches to put together or cleaning that needs to be done (right away at least…don’t be fooled, there is ALWAYS cleaning that can be done in our house) so it’s a relaxing night!
8:00pm – Start to watch The Bachelor but notice that it’s set to go until 11pm. I know I’ll get sucked in if I start watching and I will not make it that late. I set The Bachelor to record so I can watch it another night and fast-forward through all of the commercials.
8:25pm – Jay and I decide to watch another episode of OITNB (no surprise there).
8:26pm – Before hitting play, I run out to the kitchen and grab us some dessert…Chewy Chocolate Chip Heath Bar Cookies. Two for him, two for me. Mmmmm, mmmm.
9:30pm – OITNB episode is over. We’re tempted to watch another one (ob-SESSED), but I’m wiped and know I need sleep. Instead, I wash face, brush teeth, and get ready for bed.
10:15pm – Lights out!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I’m exhausted just reading this! I don’t know how working moms do it! I hope for your sake that your little man sleeps through the night so you can get some rest–he might not need the afternoon nap, but maybe you do. And perhaps the most frustrating thing is losing your work on the computer. My computer hasn’t been losing power, but it is doing that lovely restart thing that is so freaking annoying.
Brynn says
Through your whole day I kept saying, “yes” or “uh-huh” haha. Forgetting to eat, baths because of blow outs, binge watching OITNB! The life of moms! I had a similar day, though my night ended with a dish of ice cream. Someone is teething and well, lets say I am definitely treating myself once he hits the hay.
Courtney says
We haven’t had ice cream in a couple of weeks and I think I’m going through some withdrawals…!!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
that pb cookie dough overnight oats is THE BEST!! i’ve gotta check out that one pot burrito bowl – def my type of dinner!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
That burrito bowl looks so good – definitely going to be on my list for a weekday meal. I t will make me lots of leftovers for the week too.
Oh and I love your black booties! Where are they from? And are they comfortable? I have been on the hunt for a good black bootie.
Courtney says
Thanks, Sara! I believe they were from Macy’s a few years ago – they’re Enzo Anglioni brand. They’re pretty comfortable, although they’re a bit taller of a heel than I typically wear, so I don’t wear them too often. In fact, I actually ended up changing my shoes last minute before leaving the house on Monday and didn’t even wear those, haha ;)
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
Thanks Courtney! I have a pair of Enzo high boots. Time to shop!
Heather @Fit n Cookies says
What a busy day! I have those mornings sometimes, where I plan to go back to sleep, but usually have to go to the bathroom and then I’m up. Great job on the workout! T25 is no joke! I’d be interested to try the new Insanity Max:30. It looks like a good one. Hope your power doesn’t go out anymore at work! That is frustrating.
Courtney says
Yes! I’m interested in that program, too. May be something to look in to one of these days for me!
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
My heart breaks a little at the “5:15 AM – alarm goes off”. But it’s so awesome that you have the motivation to get up and workout in the morning before you start your busy day!
And why exactly was The Bachelor premiere 3 hours? Why was there a red carpet? What was Catherine wearing? So many unanswered questions!
Courtney says
Hahaha, your comment made me chuckle out loud, Stacie. I’m with you…so many unanswered questions! ;)
Jessica says
Lucas is always adorable, but that second pic of him in his bathtowel with his toothbrush is just too stinkin’ cute :)
Courtney says
Aww, thank you Jessica! :)
Marielle says
Busy girl!! Good job on getting your workouts in bright and early! And yea, I couldn’t stay up the entire episode of the bachelor……11 is way past my bedtime, lol. My hubby was like “3 hours really?!?” Lol.
Courtney says
Lol, Jay said the same thing. Three hours was a bit much…we watched it DVR’d in about 1-1/2!
Christen says
Love the picture of Lucas brushing his teeth. So cute!
Monica says
It made me laugh how you described Lucas brushing his teeth. Harlow does the same thing! Haha. :)
Courtney says
Haha, ohhh, kids. ;)
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Busy day! Congrats on getting in that early morning workout. That is crazy with all those power outages!
Bethany says
Your son is SO adorable :)
Courtney says
Aww, thank you Bethany!!
Grace says
Love these posts :-) Lucas is getting so big – and smart!
Courtney says
Thanks Grace!
Heather @ Housewife Glamour says
Wow, I’m super impressed you got that workout in after no so much sleep. I’m such a baby. I used to just be able to power through days like that like it was nothing… but these days I get headaches and even migraines if I don’t get enough sleep. That should make mommy-life pretty interesting ;) That dinner looks SO good! I just might have to try that recipe. Scott would love it. Oh, and Lucas is too cute! (As always.) <3
Courtney says
Hahaha, you’d be surprised at how much you adapt to things you thought you’d never be able to do! ;)
Danica @ It's Progression says
You had a busy day! Way to go on still getting a workout in and eating so well, too. I just pinned that burrito bowl recipe – we eat Mexican dishes all the time over here and I love that that one is all in one pot. Yum!
Grace says
So nice to see other mom’s have the same crazy days! And that your Lucus still takes his paci and bedtime bottle. I have a 14month old and get stressed sometimes that she still has both. Good to see I’m not the only one!
Courtney says
Oh yes, absolutely! They are two of the things that I finally had to just “let go” worrying about. They’re only a baby for so long, you know?! Why rush everything all at once is how I look at it :)
Erin @ She's a big star says
I hate to be one of those people with the annoying questions but… what bowls do you use for your salad for work? I need to find a good salad container for lunch salads, none of mine are big enough! TIA!
Courtney says
You wouldn’t believe how many people ask me about them, haha! They’re actually just takeout containers that we save from one of our favorite spots. Go figure, right?!
Erin @ She's a big star says
Ha – glad I’m not the only one! Thanks!
Cassie says
Wow, definitely pinning that one pot burrito bowl. I love anything that has minimal cleanup and can be done in 1/2 hour. Also it seems heavy on the veggies and I like the idea of serving over a bed of lettuce with tortilla chips!
Courtney says
Yes, that’s what we’re planning on doing with the leftovers we have!
Shawna says
wow you do a lot…be a mom, work full-time and cook? errrr i have one of those 3 down and i’m still tired all the time. :) FINALLY got myself back to a 6am workout this morning for the first time since New Year’s, which felt good, esp after a cold run outside last night. i haven’t hated my aft-work workouts as much as i thought i would the past week, but i’d prefer to get them over with in the morning! i’m with you on the Bachelor premier — i was ready for it to be done at 10 and hadn’t checked ahead of time to see that it went til 11. snooze.
monique says
I really enjoyed this post! I love What I ate Wednesday posts happy you are in including them in posts again :) I also cant wait to try the one pot burrito dinner! looks sooo good!
Courtney says
Thanks Monique! Yes, we’d definitely recommend it!!
Laura D says
Pacifiers- I’m in the camp of WHATEVER works! So much so that I have 12 pacifiers in my 9 mo old sons crib. Yes 12 so there’s always 1 nearby for him to find :-) Do you have more than 1 in Lucas’ crib?
Avocado- HOW do you keep it from turning brown in your packed lunch?? I love avocado but if I make my salad night before for work it’s yucky by next day.
Courtney says
Haha, we actually just started adding an extra one in his crib but I’m thinking we may need to toss a few more in there for good measure. ;) We also took out an Adan & Anais blanket which I think he was losing them in and so far (knock on wood) things have been MUCH better!
As for the avocado, I actually packed it separate and cut it at work. Otherwise, it’s usually a little brown by the time I eat it at lunch :)
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Still loving these DITL posts! I’d love to hear more about what you do at your day-job too! :)
Courtney says
Thanks Ashley! I’m not sure I’ll ever really go into too much detail about my day-job. I try to keep the two separate, but really, there’s not much to report on anyways! ;)
Kellie says
Pinned that burrito bowl. Looks like a great weeknight meal for us working moms! Not sure what your plan is to take pacifiers away from Lucas but my son is 14 months and LOVES his pacis. I figure we will take them away when he is old enough to understand that we are “giving them to a baby in need.” But, the best piece of advice I ever got was to put a bunch of pacis in his crib at naps & bed. We have a whole bucket in his room that he likes to just play with and I put at least 8 in his crib at night. Just a big handful. He holds on to them & finds them all over his crib. Might help!
Courtney says
We actually just starting putting more in there (i.e., he only has 2) but we also took out a light blanket he had in there and so far, we haven’t had any wake ups (knock on wood!). I really like your thoughts on waiting until he’s old enough to understand that he can “give it away.” I really love that (Lucas has been the “recipient” for friends of ours a couple of times, haha) and really, I don’t have an issue with it if he’s not waking up from it. It’s not like he’s walking around with it all day long, so it never posed an issue until recently. But I’m thinking we may just have to toss a few more in the crib for good measure. ;)
Koryn @ High Heels & Healthy Alternatives says
This post was absolutely Awesome!! P.S. Your morning (from 5:15 to 5:30am) sounds almost EXACTLY like mine these past few days. I think we’re dealing with 11 month old sleep regression. Oy!! Kudos to you for skipping the short nap and getting a workout in! …I’ll get there eventually. Haha! P.P.S. That one pot Burrito Bowl looks sooo good! I think I may try that tonight, provided we have most of the ingredients on hand. Thanks! :-)
Shel@PeachyPalate says
A workout at 5.30am is serious dedication!!! Especially with that busy ass day ahead!
Kay @ Kay Bueno says
Your day is packed! I would probably freak out if my power went out that often.
Bachelor was definitely better without commercials. I watched it tonight! :)
Danielle says
WubbaNubs are great since the babies can find them easier – it’s just a paci attached to a stuffed animal. I got my sister some for her twins and she said it helps to keep them quiet because they can easily put them back in when they want. http://www.wubbanub.com/
Courtney says
We actually tried a wubbanub with Lucas a while back, but he just didn’t take to that variety of paci. Bummer, too, because they’re so cute! :)
Laura says
My kids didn’t like that kind of paci either! I ended up cutting the paci off and just giving them the little animal. To this day my 2 yr old daughter sleeps with her “kitty cat wubs” :-)
Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork says
That one pot burrito bowl sounds delicious! I was just going to do tacos tonight, but this is much better! Thanks for helping me mix it up!
Lucas pointing out his body parts sounds so adorable.
Sammy Jo says
I just wanted to tell you that your lunch salads inspired me! They looked so delicious that I had to copy you and prep salads for lunch all week. Thanks for helping to inspire me to eat healthier for lunch!
Courtney says
Aww that’s great to hear! Thank you!!
