To tell you that I spent the entire day yesterday looking forward to last night would be an understatement…and it was such a good time! Jay and I met up with our friends Brian & Mal for a nice “double dinner date.” It had been way too long since we last got together.

IMG_0733

IMG_0732

We met up for dinner at Creo’ Restaurant, which you may remember I visited over this past summer with some lovely ladies. Creo’ is an amazing restaurant, but definitely not one that my wallet can handle on a regular occasion, so it was really nice to be able to treat ourselves last night.

We had a reservation, so we got seated right away and were given some bread and butter, which tasted like it may have been some sort of honey butter. It was delicious.

IMG_0725

I also ordered myself a glass of Pinot Grigio, which I enjoyed a couple glasses of throughout the evening.

IMG_0726

None of us were in any rush last night, so we decided to order a couple of appetizers while we sat and got caught up. When I used to work at Creo’, I would always hear people raving about the Maytag Blue Potato Chips, so I made sure to get an order for us to share.

IMG_0730

I could immediately see why people rave about them. Fresh, homemade potato chips, topped with blue cheese and some other sort of creamy sauce that was out of this world.

IMG_0731

We also got an order of Grilled Edamame to share. The only way I’ve ever had my edamame is steamed(?) but I absolutely loved the flavor of it grilled.

IMG_0734

When it came time to order our dinners, I was at a complete loss. I had been so busy chatting that I never really took the time to look over the menu. I wanted to try something new…then I wanted a salad…then I wanted swordfish…

Finally, I ended up ordering the Crab & Asparagus Risotto…the same thing that I got the last time that I came.

IMG_0737

Luckily, Mal and I decided that we were going to do a little sharing, so I gave her half of my risotto while she gave me half of her Lobster Mac & Cheese.

IMG_0738

Okay, I’d never had lobster mac & cheese up until last night, but oh-my-friggin’-lord. That stuff is incredible! What have I been doing all this time?!?

When it came time for dessert, I think we all had the “go big or go home” mentality; I say that because each one of us ended up getting our own dessert and shared. Smile

Mal got the Chocolate Cake, which was layers of chocolate fudge cake, dark chocolate mousse, and ganache. To say this was “rich” doesn’t even describe it enough. Holy chocolate. Brian got the Tiramisu, which you can somewhat see in the background here. That was delicious, too.

IMG_0739

Jay ordered the Zephyr Cheesecake, which came with a mixed berry coulis, toasted meringue, and white chocolate shavings. This may have been the best cheesecake I’ve ever consumed. Just sayin’.

IMG_0740

I ordered the Chai Spice Apple Crisp, which came with homemade cinnamon ice cream and caramel. The apple crisp was good, nothing amazing; but the ice cream was delicious.

IMG_0741

And the little sugar swirl thing that came on top of it was super awesome.

IMG_0742

When it came time to pay the bill, I used my new Serve account. If you haven’t heard of Serve before, it’s a digital payments platform that helps you organize your money, send and receive funds, and manage payment requests — all from a single online account. Serve is provided by American Express, which means that they use American Express security, technology, and data protection.

IMG_0746

Before going out to dinner, we all signed up for Serve accounts, so we could test out how to transfer money to each other. Just for signing up, each of us received $10.00 in our account, which was pretty sweet, too.

Since there is also an app that you can download with Serve, the boys, of course, whipped that right out and started looking through it.

IMG_0743

It was super easy to pay our bill, and we didn’t even have to worry about how to split everything evenly and all that other jazz you usually end up dealing with when you’re out to eat with a group. It was great!

By the time all was said and done, we realized we had been at dinner for over three hours. Talk about time flyin’ when you’re having fun! Thanks, Bri & Mal, for a great night out, as always!!

I have never been to Creo' before but I do know that it is extremely expensive, according to my mother. If you like lobster mac n cheese or any mac n cheese really, you should go to the TimesUnion.com Tablehopping Mac n Cheese Bowl Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at the Albany Marriott on Wolf Road. I went last year and had a blast because I absolutely love eating mac n cheese. The best last year was the Farmer Boy Diner's on Central Avenue. I think I was partial to that one because it was the only original mac n cheese submission. But I did like the winner's mac n cheese, Valente's in Watervilet. $15 are the adult ticket price; there will be 2 sessions this year, one at 11:00 am and one at 12:30 pm. I'm sure that I'm going again this coming year. I'm also a big chocoholic and I really think that chocolate layer cake looks extremely appetizing. Rich or not, I'd eat the whole thing! :)

That Serve app would be so handy going out in big groups. I can't STAND when folks start to argue about the group bill. No fuss/no drama sounds like a beautiful thing.

That is awesome! This exact thing happened to me over the weekend...big group, told the waitress to split the bill, she didn't, we felt bad, etc etc...so we ended up trying to work things out ourselves. Not easy. Ha!
