Another Easter weekend has come and gone, and I think it’s safe to say that my kids may or may not get more excited about finding Easter eggs than they do for Christmas.
Okay, mayyyybe that’s pushing it. But seriously, these kids love Easter. We did the obligatory egg dying on Friday, despite the fact that it’s really just not my favorite thing to do (I can’t help but hover the whole time!). The boys enjoyed it for all of about 10 minutes, and then it was done, so that worked for me.
They also LOVE the egg hunts that come with Easter. So for that reason, I sat and stuffed 100 plastic eggs with m&m’s and coins on Saturday night to make for a fun-filled Easter morning.
And in no more than 15 minutes, all eggs were found!
Shortly after our egg hunt at the house, we all got ready and headed over to Jay’s aunt’s house for their second egg hunt of the day.
After watching a dreary weather forecast all week, we seriously lucked out with some great weather again, and the boys had a blast running around, finding their eggs, and playing with some of their cousins.
Fun fact: I know so many people who plan ahead for Easter outfits for their kids, and I found myself scrambling through both of their closets on Easter morning, just hoping I’d be able to find something halfway decent that would fit.
And another fun fact…Lucas wore the same shirt Alex was wearing two years ago. Here’s Lucas from two years ago…
I think I’m seeing a resemblance!
Final fun fact (wait, it’s not Friday…?!)…I’m so glad I decided to wear white pants.
After the kids finished their egg hunt, everyone gathered inside for brunch, which was delicious, as always.
And then there was more playing outside, and I just have to share these two pics again (I already shared on Instagram) because I still can’t help but chuckle when I look at them…
Ohhhh, Alex.
Eventually, it was time to head home to put Alex down for a nap and get all of my stuff finished up in the kitchen for our family dinner.
First up to finish was this fun, Easter-themed dirt cake.
I was so excited about how it turned out! And WOW, was it delicious. I’ll share the recipe later this week!
As for dinner, we had the whole family over (my parents, my brother and his girlfriend, and Jay’s mom) and we kept things pretty casual by firing up the grill for some chicken and steak.
I also made a batch of my beloved Apple ‘n’ Bacon Mac & Cheese, which was a hit.
Shortly after dinner, and a surprise visit from the ice cream truck (which basically made my boys’ day), it was time to clean them up and shuffle them off to bed so everyone could sleep off their food/sugar comas. Holy moly, so much food!
It was another great holiday, and we were once again reminded of just how lucky we are. <3
Looks like such a fun holiday! That Easter Dirt Cake looks incredible and I’m definitely looking forward to the recipe!
What a fun Easter! I made a dirt cake myself for our family potluck..i decided to make it look super real and got some lawn clippings and pebbles on top. I think we got some dieters in my family because i saw some people eat it and spit it out – they said it was super rich! Can’t wait to write a cookbook! Happy happy Courntey!
Cute family! Can’t wait for that dirt cake recipe :)
Looks like such a fun weekend. I am obsessed with all things pastel, so I totally need to make that cake. Can’t wait for the recipe!
I used the PAAS Shake and Color kit for egg coloring this year and it was AWESOME…you add the dye to a plastic baggie of rice, smush it around, and then put the egg in and shake it up. It was SO MUCH easier and less messy then the traditional cups of dye that I always feel are going to ruin everything :) And my daughter loved it! She was able to be much more independent with it. Highly recommend!
Girl, I do the same thing – wear white and then ask myself why I even bothered. Its a magnet for kid mess. Looks like a really fun Easter!
