Fun Facts Friday {10/17}

By Courtney 63 Comments

1. Uncle Dan came to visit us last night!

IMG_8418

Unfortunately when he arrived, Lucas was expecting Jay so my brother didn’t get the warmest of welcomes from Mr. Lucas. But he won him over eventually and we all had some fun together.

IMG_8420

2. I am so bad at changing my contacts and razor blades at the right time. I am a repeated offender of wearing my contacts until they’re noticeably too blurry to keep using and I’ll use my razor blades until they wind up feeling like they’re ripping the skin off of my legs. I really need to get my ish together, I know. Especially with the contacts…yikes.

3. My poor baby took quite a spill earlier this week while he was at daycare and ended up bruising/scraping his face.

IMG_8466

I know this is only just the beginning, and I’m trying to prepare myself to be the strong mama this active, rambunctious little guy is going to need…but man.

4. iHerb.com is having a special offer between now and October 31st – 10% off all orders over $40. And, of course, you can use my discount code SAZ564 to get yourself some great deals! I just ended up ordering some of this Mild by Nature for Baby Tear Free Shampoo and Body Wash for Lucas after seeing some amazing reviews.

mild by nature

The child has some sensitive skin just like his mama, so I’m hoping this will work well for him. I’ll let you guys know how it is once we try it out a bit!

5. So I had an interesting appointment at my allergist yesterday. I met with a new doctor who basically told me that he thinks the food allergies I tested positive for were actually false positives. Makes sense, considering I still eat most of them and I don’t get any reactions whatsoever. Now if we could just get my environmental allergies under control…UGH. Hopefully all of this immunotherapy I’ve been doing is helping!

6. I’ve suddenly found myself in a bit of a plaid/flannel phase. I ended up buying this shirt from Old Navy on the last day of their Stuff & Save event, and now I’ve currently got my eye on this one and this one from Target. There’s just something so cozy and relaxed about a cute flannel, skinny jeans or leggings (if the shirt is long enough…no bum showing for this girl), boots and a scarf.

6-1/2. So while we’re at it, I want to know…what’s your take on puffy vests? Cute/worth the investment? Or a waste? I’m still on the fence, because I like the look of an outfit paired with one, but at the same time, if I want to get warmer, I’m usually just going to put on a full jacket with sleeves…

7. I’m getting closer and closer to finally getting my hair done. I’ve been eyeballing a few different looks and colors, and I’m currently loving this look/color…

As for the cut, I think it’s about time to add a front angle back in, along with some long layers. I’ve also been toying with the idea of some side swept bangs, but I just don’t know if I can take the plunge. Anytime I go down that road, I always regret it…yet, I still can’t get them off of my mind!

8. Heard some awesome news around these parts yesterday…we’re going to be getting a Nordstrom Rack! Granted, it’s not coming until fall of 2015, but I’ll be ready.

Ok @nordstrom_rack, you made my day! Even if I do have to wait a year for you to come to #Albany! http://t.co/eaZpOQP6w5 #NordstromRack

9. I know I mentioned it last week too, but I am seriously loving me some PiYo these days. I’ve found that I’m just not quite as interested in the T25 at the moment, and just cannot get enough of the intense-in-a-totally-different-way burn that PiYo is giving. My legs and shoulders have not felt like this in a LONG time. I. Love. It.

10. Yesterday, I used up the last of my apples from our trip to the orchard to make my absolute favorite apple crisp.

IMG_8408

I only made half of a batch, based on the number of apples I had left, but it did not disappoint, as usual.

11. Earlier this week, I took the time to descale my Keurig. I’d already been planning on it, thanks to some friendly, yet gross reminders of just how dirty they can get but then the notification came on the machine so we knew it was time.

IMG_8406

I followed the directions on this post and it was super easy, but it does require a few hours. So I’d say if you own a Keurig, haven’t cleaned it in a while (or in forever, like my case), and are gonna be home for a bit this weekend, go ahead and give it a cleaning. And while you’re at it, look into some Stainless Steel Refillable K-Cups. We totally love ours.

12. I will leave you all with this fun fact for today…Lucas has mastered the art of the frown.

IMG_8424

This kid. I’ll tell ya, he is quite the character! He’ll be laughing and smiling then, all of a sudden, he breaks out the frown. Comes from nowhere, but it gets us laughing every single time. And everyone in my family agrees that we know where he gets it from…

IMG_8426-001IMG_8474

Yep, that’s his mama. Winking smile

Alright friends, that’s all I’ve got for today. Hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend, whatever you may be doing!

As far as changing things out in a timely mannor, I'm always bad at tooth brushes and loofahs. I will all of a sudden realize I don't know how long it's been and then that pushes me to change them. Bad, bad. Love the hair and all of the plaid!! Also, puffy vests are silly in cold climates bc the wearing window is so small, but I still think it's worth it. They are just too cute for fall.

Lucas' frown is the best face ever! Love it! I am also in need of a hair cut and am thinking of heading out after school. I want a few inches chopped off of mine, and my bangs trimmed up. I love vests, and I actually think they keep me pretty warm. If it's a little chillier, I'll throw some gloves on if we're outside and with a long sleeve shirt, I'm pretty good to go! Of course, if I'm outside for a while, I'd rather wear a coat.

I had a puffy vest once....I didn't wear it a lot. In fact my sister ended up taking it to college with her and I didn't even realize it was gone until I saw her wearing it last weekend, and she'd now done with school. Shows how much I missed it!

I'm exactly the same way with contacts and razor blades. It is terrible! I once made a year of contacts last two and a half years... without conciously trying to! That cut and color is beautiful. I'm with you on the bangs thing... I always regret getting them, but every time it is time to get my hair done, I really want to get them again! I recently cut over a foot off my own hair and feel great, so a new 'do will make you feel like a new person! Good luck!

i have quite the obsession w/ plaid (some flannel, some not) shirts, and i have 2 puffy vests (a thin white one and a thicker royal blue one) that i absolutely lovveee. invested in the blue one last year -- i went for Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx, can't beat it -- and it was such a good choice, as i never want to take it off! love those highlights, and side bangs are a fun look but i agree, after about a week i want them long enough to pull back into a pony again. happy Friday!

Any idea if PIYO is pregnancy-friendly? I'm 32 weeks and still running, so not necessarily worried about being in shape enough for it, but more worried about whether it's worth it to buy now, as I'm bored with my other videos - or wait until after pregnancy?

Hmmm...I'd say some possibly are safe, but not all? I haven't done all of the videos yet, so I can't speak for all of them. Thinking off the top of my head (and about how I was at 32 weeks prego) I'm not sure some of it would be too comfortable. BUT, that's just my opinion!

Not to be stalker-ish - but what did your doc say about the "false positives"? I'm like you - have asthma/allergies - and test positive for just about every food but eat everything and never notice a reaction. Is this reall a thing?

      October 17, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Haha, not stalkerish at all :) For me, I have super sensitive skin, so when they tested for the environment allergies, I even reacted to the histamine (the control). So he said it's very possible that my skin just reacted and it's not necessarily a true reaction, especially since my numbers were also so low. They even make me have a prescription for an epi pen and I'm always like, whaaaat?! I never react to ANY of these things!

When I got allergy tested, some of my favorite foods came up as well! The doc said some of them were cross reacting to pollens (carrots and blueberries). I'm also apparently super allergic to every pollen....not sure if it's an option for you but I'm doing an allergy treatment that consists of taking drops every day. It takes a long time, but it's supposed to "cure" allergies.

I have this one: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=0385_1902_576&catId=cat6470522 (I bought a size up so I could comfortably layer stuff underneath, but I'm not sure how necessary that was). It's quite warm and I'd buy it again for sure. I've also been kind of looking at getting something like this: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-quilted-vest-black/-/A-15143243#prodSlot=_1_3 ...Or spending a little more on something like this: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/michael-michael-kors-quilted-down-vest/3825921?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Red&resultback=386&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_1_A Sorry, that's a lot of links. Anyway, I have personal experience with the AE one and really like it, and I've heard good things about both the others :)

Hahaha - that frown! I am loving it. My obsession with plaid/flannel tops started last year, and it only continues! I've been eyeing the ones at Target and one at Old Navy too, but I already have a few so I'm trying to use some self control. We'll see how long that lasts. ;) As for the puffy vests, I love them, especially for fall and spring (well, in Utah at least...they'll be great for winter here in AZ) when it's chilly but you don't quite need a heavy jacket. Adding a scarf helps with extra warmth too when you don't want a big jacket.

I wasn't sure until I moved up to MI, but they're a great transition on days where it's too warm for a full on jacket, but chilly enough to want something over your flannel. I'm not sure why people dislike the puffy vests. I've had my brown one from American Eagle since 2004, and I still wear it every Fall! I LOVE it.

My boyfriend has been trying to convince me to the vest side. (He loves the fleece one he has). And until I saw your outfit board, I'd never have considered it. (I mean, I'm usually trying to make my torso look less puffy, rather than more.) But I can totally see it over a comfy flannel. Basically, you should totally go for it, and maybe I should too.

Hehehe this post is too cute!! You guys look identical there, but you definitely have changed a lot :D And I say, go with your heart's desire for a change of hairdo!! I always find that no matter how much I love it or am just "okay" with a certain change, I'm glad I did it because it's fun to experiment and hey...I'm only this young once ;)
