1. I had the most amazing sub for lunch yesterday. I ran out of time to pack a lunch at home, and was too lazy to drive home at lunch, so I hit up a local deli right around the corner from where I work and ordered a small chicken salad sub.
I tend to try to avoid mayo-based salads when I’m out, just because I know they’re likely terrible for me (which is why they’re so friggin’ delicious) but I made an exception this time and it was WELL worth it!
2. So, I have to know…have any of you out there tried this dinner?
I picked it up at the beginning of the week from Target for a quick, easy dinner (aka, I had nothing at home and didn’t really feel like cooking) and we had it that night. Holy CRAP, my mouth was on fire. Seriously…the only way I could even come close to finishing my piece was if I covered it in sour cream and diced tomatoes. We both said it was too spicy to even save leftovers…yikes!
3. Another good quote from the desktop calendar this week…
4. Did anyone else take advantage of the 40% off all boots at Target yesterday with their Cartwheel app? I picked up myself a pair of these riding boots in gray for myself, along with a pair of winter boots for Lucas. And then, because they were buy one, get one 50% off, I got him a couple pairs of jammies, too.
5. Soooo, last night I went to a cheesecake tasting party with my mom.
And to say I left there STUFFED would be an understatement. Trying 8 different kinds of cheesecakes is no easy task!
But I mean, seriously, how amazing is that?? If there’s anyone local who is interested, let me know! They were INCREDIBLE, and the girl is selling them for Thanksgiving!
6. I am seriously obsessed with this thickening mousse from Living Proof. I just ordered a full bottle, after finishing up the sample I received a while back. It works really, really well!
7. I will say, Monday cannot come soon enough. I finally booked an appointment for an eye exam, since my contacts have been driving me crazy for at least the past month. I’m pretty positive my prescription has changed, so anytime I wear them, I’ve been getting major headaches. No good, no good. As much as I don’t mind glasses, I’m ready for a break from them.
8. Fun fact: Jay couldn’t believe I actually used the selfie stick to take that picture above last week. He laughed at me and was like, you seriously used it?? Yes babe, yes I did.
9. Coworkers with candy = trouble.
10. This weekend could get very interesting. Starting tonight, we’re planning on an attempt to take Lucas’s paci away. I am not prepared for this whatsoever, and I have no idea how he’ll react, but I’m going to assume it’s not going to be good. I’ve heard different strategies on how to do this (i.e., say you’re giving it away to another baby, have him help you throw it away, etc.) but I just don’t know. I guess we’re gonna wing it?! Needless to say, there will be a fresh bottle of wine on standby tonight.
Alright my friends, that’s all I’ve got for today! I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful Halloween weekend ahead. Stay safe out there and have fun!
P.S. – The winner of the Target gift card giveaway was chosen yesterday and was emailed directly – congrats, Kaitlyn!

I think your glasses are super cute!! It is always good for our eyes to take a little contact break every now and again :) And a cheesecake tasting party?! That sounds like Heaven :) I hope you have a wonderful Halloween weekend!

I was at Target last night for boots for my son, too! I’ve been looking for winter boots for him but toddler shoes are so expensive and knowing he will only get one season out of them made me reluctant to spend a lot. I was so excited to see the 40% off yesterday. Boots scored for him, but I was good and didn’t buy any for myself.

When I was little my mom took away my blankey and told me she was giving it to someone who needed it. I went and got another one lol.
Kathryn says
Please post how you took away the pacifier. We need to do this soon with our 2 year old. We’ve kept putting it off!

Ditto here!

We took Emery’s pac away on his 2nd birthday and we/he never looked back. We had weaned him of its use to just naps and bedtime a few months before so it wasn’t always around. I was amazed at how easy the transition turned out to be! I’m sure Lucas will do just fine too! Ps,, where do I sign up for a cheesecake party?! :)

The binky fairy just visited my niece Audrey before she turned four and brought her a bunch of presents… Of course she was older so she had a better understanding.. Good luck!

It might be one of those mornings I stop for lunch. I’m usually pretty good on making my lunches, but the tuna salad combo I’ve had most everyday this week just doesn’t sound too good! And boy, cheesecake sounds good right about now!
Christy says
Good luck with the paci! We’ve been prepping Jayson for it by telling him that he’s going to leave his “binky” in his stocking for Santa to give to a baby that needs it and in return Santa’s going to leave him a big-boy present.

I love that the casserole states that it is “medium” heat… I wonder what the “hot” meals are like?! :/

My parents bargained with me, to trade it for a Cinderella dress I really wanted when I was about 2 1/2. Apparently I tried to trade back at night, but by morning had decided this whole trade thing could be a super effective way to get stuff :)

Good luck with the paci. We are almost at that point as well, and let me say, I am not looking forward to it. Maybe all of the fun from Halloween will tucker him out and he won’t notice.

My glasses do the same thing your contacts do! So strange. I’d like to give my eyes a break sometime, but I can’t for very long or I get headaches. Hope you get that resolved :)

Hi,
I thought my little girl, almost 2.5, would never give it up! We started limiting it to naps and car rides (the best we could anyway). Then she started biting holes in it so we told her it was broken and we threw it out. We went threw a lot because as soon as she got a new one she would bite another hole in it! But within a couple weeks she would grab for one and say yuck it’s broken and she would throw it in the garbage all by herself. We couldn’t beleive it! Good luck and all the best. He may surprise you! ;)
Christen says
All the power to you for paci extraction tonight! I’m not going to lie – we straight up bribed our kids. Each got to pick out a new toy that they’d wanted and we exchanged the toy for the pacifier and had the kids throw them in the garbage themselves (which they happily did). It worked with both. So yeah, I bribe my kids :)

We just took the pacifier away from my little guy a few weeks ago. I had read somewhere that the first 3 nights would be the worst and then they’d get better and that’s exactly what happened. You will need the wine :) Good luck!! He doesn’t even ask for it anymore so it can be done successfully!!

Good luck this weekend. I dreaded taking the girls’ Nuks away — at 18 mos. we took them away for naps, and at 2 years we took them away for bedtime — but they took the transition surprisingly well. I hid the Nuks (they knew where we kept them in their room), so they were 100% out of sight, then told them because they were 2 years old, they didn’t need them anymore. They whined a bit, but we continued with our nightly routine and they fell asleep fine. They asked for them again for the next few days, and I just repeated that big girls don’t need Nuks. And eventually, they stopped asking, and they haven’t looked back. My only tip would be to make sure Lucas is really tired when you put him down this weekend, so he doesn’t have much choice to sit up and whine about his pacifier; if he’s truly tired, he’ll just fall asleep, hopefully without the paci as a soother. You got this, girl!

We took our son’s pacifier away just a few months ago (he’s the same age as Lucas). We were so afraid it would be a disaster because he was “addicted” to it. Before we gave it to him for the night, we cut the end off, enough so that he couldn’t hold it in his mouth. He put it in his mouth and knew immediately that something was wrong. We asked him what was wrong, if the pacifier was broken. He said “yes, broken” so we brought him the trash can and he threw it away right then and there. That was the end of the pacifier for us! He took it like a champ and never looked back. Well, he did ask for it for a few more days, but we just reminded him that it was broken and we had to throw it away, and he was fine with that. We got this idea from another couple who said it worked for them, so I’d definitely try it! I will admit I did have a few spares hidden just in case this idea failed (which I was sure it would), but we never used them! Good luck!

When my parents decided it was time to take my pacifiers (which I called boppys) away, they had me help tie them to balloons and we released them on a little street corner near where we lived where a man played guitar. They told me they were going to “boppy heaven” which helped little me deal with it!

Cheesecake tasting party??? OMG YES!!!
Betty says
two things
1) a cheesecake party – so much fun – what a great seasonal business for a home baker – certainly could be year round, but this time of year is perfect
2) I saw the pic of the sub before, and waited, and waited – but, I have to ask – where did you get that? mr subbs and subway are holding no interest to me – but yours looks great – good looking bread (but not too much) and fresh lettuce
thanks
have a good weekend
Courtney says
It was from Roasted Red Pepper – they have amazing subs!! :)

I really love that quote from your desktop calendar, it’s so true and a great reminder. Also, the cheesecake party sounds like it must have been such a fun time; cheesecake is one of my all-time favorite desserts!

Cheesecake tasty party! That sounds awesome but very filling indeed! Good luck with Lucas and taking away his paci. I hope that goes well!

my mom says that when she weened my sister off her paci, each day she would cut just at little bit more off the tip, by the end of the week, my sister didn’t want it any more…..
