1. I want to wish a very happy Veterans Day to everyone out there, especially to the brave men and women who have sacrificed and graciously served our country. If you happen to see a vet today, be sure to tell them thank you!
2. A “quick trip” to Target earlier this week resulted in a few extra items in my cart. I had to grab another one of these nursing bras because they’re SO comfortable and I also picked up this cute baseball tee for when I’m lounging at home (which is most of the time). It also resulted in this Rudolph’s Mix which is absolutely INSANE.
I’d say I shouldn’t buy any more of it this holiday season but I feel like that would be a lie…
3. The postpartum hair loss is still going strong over here. You can see where I’m losing a bunch of it from this post-workout pic I snapped the other day.
Blahhhhh, definitely not my favorite thing in the world!
4. I’m currently sipping on some wine as I’m typing up this post on Thursday night while watching a DVR’d episode of Chicago PD. Good stuff tonight, my friends. Good stuff.
5. Lucas has been so much more interested in Alex lately and it’s adorable. He asks to hold him all the time (although it lasts for about 20 seconds) and loves to give him hugs and toys. And does he not look totally huge in this picture?!
6. Speaking of…my little bubba turned 5 months old yesterday. FIVE months! Man, time sure flies. I’m hoping to have an update post up next week!
(FYI: For any of you in the colder weather, I cannot recommend the JJ Cole BundleMe enough – it’s PERFECT for keeping the little ones warm in their infant car seats so you can avoid worrying about bulky coats!)
7. I’m a little short on fun facts today, so I’ll leave you all with this…
8. So this blog has never been – nor will it ever be – a place for any sort of political discussion. However, I feel I would be remiss to not mention something about the election this week. I’ve had to take somewhat of a step back from social media because I’ve found it incredibly disheartening to see so much hate at a time where we really need just the opposite. Politics aside, no matter who you supported throughout this election, I think we can all agree we need encouragement. And hope. And unity.
So rather than adding fuel to the fire, it is my hope that we can rise above the hate and negativity and, instead, spread more love, kindness, and compassion at a time when we need it more than ever. I challenge all of you to get out there and do one good deed today. And hug your children tightly. <3
Rebecca says
I appreciate your mentioning the election. I’m distraught, as are many of the students I teach. I understand your message about spreading love, but I don’t think it’s fair, accurate, or ethical to ignore the reality that someone who did NOT spread love–who spread a lot of hate for a lot of people–won and will hold office.
We need to remember this. We also need to remember the many threats he posed to the Constitution itself. I say this because for those who believe in love, respect, and equality, there will be times in the next four years where just loving your kids, neighbors, and friends isn’t enough. It is not moral to hide behind our families and rely on our own privileged safety. We will need to take action on behalf of love and equality. We will have to become the loving resistance, if we want everyone to feel love and acceptance. We will have to take many loud, possibly painful stands.
Hope you don’t mind my sharing my two cents.

Rebecca, I appreciate your comment and agree wholeheartedly with what you said. But because I choose to not discuss politics on this blog shouldn’t be viewed as unethical. It’s not a subject that I choose to discuss on this platform and, rather, choose to focus on spreading a positive message. :)
Rebecca says
I’m sorry, Courtney, I see that I didn’t word that very well. I didn’t mean to imply that it was unethical not to talk about this on the blog–I guess I was talking about people’s mindsets more generally.
I am struggling with how to continue with “normal life,” but also keep in the forefront of our minds that this is not–cannot be–the new “normal.” I guess that’s what I’m trying to convey here.
I apologize again. I didn’t mean for that to sound like an attack.
Courtney says
Not a problem, Rebecca. I completely understand.
I hope you have a great weekend :)
Brynn says
Agreed! I also support a second round of reindeer mix! Any chance you’ll start workout posts again?

The JJ Cole Bundle Me looks wonderful, but as an RN, I wanted to tell you that they are not recommended, due to the padding between the baby and the car seat. You should look into the JJ Cole car seat cover, which covers the baby and keeps them warm, without going behind the baby. It’s the one piece or advice/ registry items I explain to new moms!
Courtney says
You’re kidding, really?! I’d never heard of this one being a safety issue! Thank you so much for the heads up!!
Ali says
Came here to comment on the same thing about the bundle me! I had no clue either when my son was a baby, but someone quickly told me ?, so I only use it in the stroller now during the winter. I just use a blanket wrapped over in the car seat.
Love your blog and love the positivity post election. It’s been a tough week, but I’m ready to accept and move forward. I don’t feel like we really have any other choice but to do so!
sarah says
I was coming to type the exact same thing. I used the JJ Cole car seat cover and it was great. The way to test if the bundle me or coats are too bulky for a car seat is to tighten the child in the straps with the cover/ coat and then take the child out and put them back in without touching the straps – if the straps are not snug to the baby – it is not safe. Hope that makes sense.
Courtney says
Well thank goodness for writing this blog and for my readers, haha! Going to check out that car seat cover now – THANK YOU!!
Caitlin says
They usually carry the car seat covers at Target, in case you need a reason to make a trip?
LM says
I’ve also heard stores will take the bundle me back and exchange it for the cover if you mention the safety concern.

My daughter was introduced to regular old Trail mix the other day and has been begging me to buy some. That Rudolph stuff would be a fun treat! P.s. my FIL wants to build us a dining room table and I sent him the post you did a long time ago on how to build your table. I’ve always loved yours?
Virjinia says
Your little man looks so cute and cozy! I love that quote. I haven’t really seen much hate on my social media feeds but I’m all for sharing love with one another regardless of the outcome! Aaaaaaaand, I might go to Target this weekend to find that Rudolph mix.
Kimberly says
Your blog is one of my favorites. Your boys are adorable!!
Courtney says
Thank you so much, Kimberly! Have a great weekend :)

Thanks so much for helping spread positivity this week. I’m ready to focus on how we come together as a country and be kind to one another, not continue to be embroiled in this disaster of an election.

Alex is so big – 5 months already!
As a Canadian we get a lot of American media coverage here. I was surprised when I woke up the next day to find out who’d won the election.
Trisha says
I’m preparing for a “quick trip” 59 Target today as well. I swear I can’t leave that place without spending at least $100…especially at the start of the holiday season!
I don’t think I minded the post-partum hair loss as much as the never ending regrowth stage. Luckily for me the 90s are back, so my micro bangs are in style I guess? ;)
I can’t say that I stayed off social media over the past couple days but I did stay silent and tried to process everything that is happening and I could agree with you more. We just need to keep on loving and keep on living. Happy weekend to you!
Trisha says
Um, I think 59 means “to”?? Wth?! More coffee, please! :)
Laurie says
Postpartum hair loss is getting to me lately. I am loosing it around my temple too. I just keep telling myself that it does stop. Happy Friday! Your boys are so cute. I can’t believe how big they are.

I agree that blanket stereotypes and close-mindedness on both sides have contributed to the elections outcome and far more understanding is needed. However, I also realize my profound privilege as a white, straight, us citizen. We can’t overlook that our president-elect literally promised to dismantle the fundamental rights and liberties of muslims, people of color, immigrants and the lbgtq communities. We must acknowledge the fear and hate they are facing. Kindness is greatly needed and is so important to stand up for your friends in these communities not just on facebook or social media, but also by action. I believe this can be done in a tolerant and understanding way that helps all americans realize the magnitude of our current situation and come together.
Rena says
Let’s see if this will get posted…
Trump is not against gays, Muslims, Mexicans or any people of color and once you stop believing the lying, liberal media you’d know this is a good thing for America. I was watching an event of his where he held up the Pride flag, he only wants refugees thoroughly checked for criminal backgrounds before they stay in our country, and as far as the wall and Mexico goes.. We are 1 country. We are not the USA + Mexico. Other countries also have walls but are you calling them racist?
Stop believing the lies the Clinton Foundation and the media have been telling you.
Laqueefa says
Ugh my God why are you evening saying anything political? Clearly you didn’t get it when she said not to speak of anything with the results.
Chrissy says
She was “saying anything political” because Melissa was implying that Trump is against certain groups of people when that is simply not the case. However, as Rena mentioned, this is what the mainstream, liberal media wants people to believe.

I can’t believe how much Alex has changed in the last couple of weeks! I wouldn’t have recognized him! He’s def getting much bigger, & his face is filling out more. They are both so cute! It’s so sweet that Lucas is becoming more interested in him. I’m sure that will only intensify as Alex gets older & is able to actually “play” more. Have a great wknd!

With Owen (Boy 2) my hair loss was crazy! I had to clean my hair brush a lot more than normal and Tim was even mentioning all of my hair all over the place! It is growing back now, but it is not pretty… I have all different length hair now lol! Crazy what babies do to you!
Laqueefa says
I totally agree about the politics. My husband so upset he burp in my face
