1. Another Friday the 13th? Really? Is it just me, or are we having these, like, once every few months. I swear we just had one, didn’t we? Well, regardless…hopefully you’re not superstitious??
2. This past Tuesday, I finally got to go see the 50 Shades of Grey movie with some of my girlfriends!
Do any of you remember when I was in to the books a couple of years ago? We made an evening out of it and stopped for dinner first at Whole Foods (hey, they’ve got TONS of options, don’t knock it!). I loaded up with some salads and a nice hunka cornbread.
And we also all wound up sharing some spicy crab and cupcakes because, well, why not?
As for the movie? I liked it! I’d say I definitely could have done without some of the extra sexy scenes, but I loved their storyline and both of the characters really grew on me. I wasn’t sure of them going into it, but definitely liked them by the end. When does #2 come out?!?!
3. My little Cody. He’s such a cuddlebug.
I swear, within 5 minutes of the blankets coming out, he’s right there. Always.
4. I’ve had a new obsession this week for my after dinner snacks/desserts: Cereal and cookie bars.
What a combo, right? Thanks to my friend Mal, I’ve fallen in love with this Special K Cinnamon Brown Sugar Crunch Protein Cereal and it’s amazing with some almond milk at night.
And the cookie bars? Ohhhh myyyy…I made a batch of my favorite Heath Bar Crunch Cookie Bars on Sunday and we’ve been snacking on them all week.
They’re seriously some of my favorites (and a blog favorite, by far).
5. Did you guys check out the skirt up there in the cereal pic? I ended up doing a little damage at Target recently and snagged that skirt, along with two tops similar to this one (couldn’t find the exact one online) and these sleep shorts. I need to stop…
6. My Sweet Tuna Salad has made a return this week for lunches, and ohhhh, is it good! I always wonder why I wind up going so long in between making it because it’s really a favorite of mine.
I mixed things up a big with this batch and added some avocado and a little light mayo since I was out of plain yogurt. But I’m tempted to say it’s even better that way. It’s also really good with honey mustard added too, FYI.
7. You don’t ever really need an excuse to pop a bottle of champagne, do you?
Jay and I have had a bottle in our fridge since maybe my birthday(?) and we decided to clear our some space and open it up yesterday. Definitely not a bad decision.
8. While I was out on my lunch hour yesterday, I decided to pick up one of these suja juices to try.
I feel like I see them around blogs all the time, so I decided to give it a whirl. It was pretty good and super refreshing, and totally made me feel “healthier” after drinking it and reading the ingredients. I’d buy them continuously, but for the price, I don’t think I could make it a regular thing.
9. *Edited to add: I totally forgot to tell you guys…did you hear the news? Stitch Fix is now offering both Petite and Maternity lines!
If you fit into one of those categories and already have a profile, be sure to go in and update that (with your due date, if you’re going the maternity route) and your stylist will take it from there to ensure that you’re getting clothing to suit your growing bump! And if you haven’t already signed up, you’ve gotta give it a try. Spring = SO many awesome clothing options!
I’m cutting things a bit short today because I really just need some time to veg this evening (Thursday). It’s been a crazy week!
Hope you all have a great weekend and are doing something awesome.
That skirt looks really nice! I love stripes, I have a ridiculous amount of them in my wardrobe. And absolutely, champagne is good at all times (okay maybe not before work ;) )
Maxi skirts are the best, aren’t they?! I really want to stock up on some more for the spring/summer :)
I still want to see the 50 shades movie. I couldn’t go when it first came out and then I forgot about it. Maybe this weekend I’ll get there! Your heath bars remind me that I could really go for some dessert tonight. Hmm, what to make. Have a great weekend!
love these posts, they’re fun!
Those cookie bars look great, I’ve been talking up making cookies all week and bars are nice and easy.
I love that skirt and they have a ton of cute patterns, but please help…what sort of top do you wear with that?! My only idea is a tank/cardigan? I never know where to get stuff like that. Unrelated, I’m in love with the portofino shirts from express, no iron! I’ve been holding out for a good coupon.
Haha, thanks! I wore it with a black dolman top, which was great because it was nice and simple. I also like doing the tank + open cardigan, and then when it gets warmer, likely just a solid, plain tee. I also love pairing maxis with denim jackets, too….we’re SO close, haha!
i love suja drinks! i do only buy them when they’re on sale though, but instead i’ve been loving my skoop a-game which includes TEN servings of fruits and veggies! http://www.itzlinz.healthyskoop.com (you can try it for $10) or i can send ya some samples in the mail if you’d like! :) :)
I’ve never tried those drinks – I laughed when you said it made you feel healthier. Whatever works, lady. ;)
Bahaha, I laughed when I wrote it too
My friend and I lot eating at Whole Foods! It’s become a bit of an obsession because we do it once a week. But they have so many healthy options, what’s to hate?
I’m with you! Lots of good stuff to choose from :)
i was just thinking the same thing regarding all of the Friday the 13th we’ve had lately. They seem to be more frequent. When I was a kid I used to get so scared because I was sure something bad would happen. But nothing ever has- yet!
I hear you on the vegging thing! I was all about it last night. So exhausted. It’s a good thing I didn’t have a plate of those bars laying around-they would have been gone in a jiffy!
I know it sounds pathetic, but I think it’s the time change that’s made me so tired this week. Anyone else?
Not pathetic at ALL. I’m with you!
I agree – you must stop shopping at Target because it always makes me want to do the same! LOL … in all seriousness, I love that maxi skirt and have been thinking about picking one up for myself this summer. I guess I just need to get in that dressing room and take the plunge (though I avoid them as much as possible!).
Oh, and as much as I love your nighttime bowl of cereal and side of cookie bar, I love that you’re eating it out of that bowl even more! ;) Happy Friday Courtney!
Hahahaha, thanks Stacey! Happy Friday to you, too ;)
I call my cat, Henry, a Cuddlebug, too. Actually, it used to be Bug because he bugged me so much (I got him in college, and he always tried to play with me when I was doing my homework), but as he’s gotten older (he’s turning 7 this year), he’s gotten more cuddly. <3
Hahaha, that’s great!
February is exactly 4 weeks long, so the days of the week/dates repeat in March. That’s why there was a Friday the 13th two months in a row :)
Well now it makes perfect sense :)
I swear, cats have a sixth sense that alerts them any time humans are on the floor or sitting on a couch. Both of mine show up within seconds every time I plop down. Seconds. Haha! Love Suja juice, I agree with everything you said there. Oh, and those recipes look delicious!
Gotta love our kitties! :)
Oh, I love maxi skirts like that. Such an easy way to look pulled together but feel like you’re in your jammies!
Love your cereal and cookie bar combo :) I may start doing that so it’s easier to stop after just 1 bar!
It’s not even 7am and I want that whole sheet of cookie bars!
Oh, and I’d say that making room in the refrigerator is reason enough to celebrate with champagne! Fridge space is a highly sought-after commodity. ;)
Bahahaha, touche! ;)
We had a Friday the 13th in Feb! The way the days fall in February are the same in March. Apparently we also have a Friday the 13th coming up in November! That was actually my son’s due date. Good thing he was late otherwise his first birthday would have been on Friday the 13th!
Ahhhh, well that explains it!
So glad to see sweet little Cody on the blog again! I’ve missed him!
Yes! He’s still around, getting smothered by Lucas kisses most days ;)
Wow, those cookie bars look amazing! I’ve really been meaning to try the Suja juice but haven’t yet. I’m going to keep my eyes open for it this weekend!
It’s definitely worth trying at least once!
dinner at whole foods is legit. i do it at least once a week.
Those bars look delicious. I am not sure I’d be able to stop at just one. That would be my problem! lol
Glad you got to see the movie. I had a good time when I watched it with my friends a few weeks back.
Girl, I know! Wasn’t it JUST Fridat the 13th? Hahaha!
Love your favorites this week! Cody is adorable. Champagne is always a good idea. And, that tuna salad recipe looks delicious!!
Thanks, Jen! :)
Ooh I want to try that cereal! You can’t go wrong with cinnamon and brown sugar flavors. And it’s been forever since I’ve had tuna salad, but I love it, so I might have to try your version! Hope you enjoyed your “veg” time :)
Never a bad time to open champagne ;) My boyfriend LOVES that juice! I still have yet to try it myself!
That Special K cereal sounds pretty darn yummy. I may have to get that one next after I finish up my Frosted Mini Wheats. Cereal is pretty awesome to me these days. ;)
I bought the same maxi skirt at Target last week! I haven’t worn it yet, but plan to soon. I couldn’t believe how comfy it was when I tried it on!!
Oh, I know right?! I want to go back and get ALL of the colors/patterns!
I so wish StitchFix was in Canada ’cause this Mama to be could use all the maternity help she could get, the options are sort of limited!
I am obsessed with cereal these days and glad to see I’m not the only one eating it every night as an evening snack ;)
i’m a big fan of Suja juices (esp when they’re on sale, i agree — they are rather pricey for what they are) — i like the green ones best. second Fri the 13th in a row b/c as long as Feb has 28 days, March mirrors it. :) we are going to have 3 of them this year! i read 50 Shades last semester for my Sexuality class, as i did my term paper on BDSM….i haaaaaaated itttttt so much lol. i thought it was theeee worst written book, soooo i def have no desire to see the movie. i agree that popping champagne is always a good idea, though, and i’ll have to make those cookie bars for one of my gfs, b/c that’s her favorite food!
Hahaha! Oh, I’m with you…it was definitely a poorly written book. I think I enjoyed it more because many of my friends were reading at the same time and we had fun discussing. Poorly written, yes, but it did make for some interesting conversation. ;)
totally agree with you there — that was the one redeeming factor, was being able to discuss it and feel myself get more comfortable learning about “alternative” sexual expressions. :) great for girlfriend convos.
I am in love with going to Whole Foods for lunch or dinner! They seriously have a bajillion options, and I love that they have beer and wine. Plus, the casual atmosphere is really conducive to good conversations with girlfriends :)
Your eats always look so delicious!
Hi Court! Happy Friday! It does seem like we’ve had a lot of Friday the 13ths the past few months. I haven’t read any of the 50 books nor seen the movie, but I’d like to see it for sure. And champagne? Never need a reason for popping bottles! Have a lovely weekend!:)
Okay, definitely making that sweet tuna salad for lunches next week. That sounds like exactly what I’ve been craving! Now to just figure out how to portion out the Wheat Thins to last all week…. :)
I still haven’t seen 50 Shades of Gray yet. I’m not completely won over with the characters either, but you aren’t the first person I’ve heard to say that you came around to them. Hopefully I will too!
Have a great weekend!!
Those cookie bars look delish! Do you differ the ingredients, oven degrees, or cooking time when you make them into bars instead of individual cookies?
I actually always use this recipe when I make them into cookies! https://www.sweettoothsweetlife.com/recipes/2010/10/02/chewy-chocolate-chip-heath-bar-cookies/ <-- our favorite cookies!!
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I would like to make the bars, not the cookies. Do you bake the bars for longer than 11 to 13 minutes at 325°F?
Sorry Julie – I just realized that I linked to the wrong recipe in the post! Here is the recipe I use for the bars: https://www.sweettoothsweetlife.com/2010/09/14/heath-bar-crunch-cookie-bars/
Haha, no problem! Yum… can’t wait to try these. Thanks, Courtney!
Ooooh maxi skirts are the best! yours looks super cute. I def want to buy a new one (or two) this spring!
A good Whole Foods dinner – there isn’t much better! It’s probably a good thing we don’t live closer to Whole Foods, I’d eat there way to often! Regarding Friday, the 13th, we had one LAST month…I didn’t even know that was possible! Have a great weekend!
Ooooh! You need to try Cracklin’ Oat Bran cereal with some almond milk. They sell it in a small box and it does seem kind of pricey but it is by far my favorite cereal. I could eat it round the clock.
