1. I never ended up really doing a weekend recap earlier this week, so I never got the chance to share about my fun evening out with some friends on Saturday!
Our friend Erica is an incredibly talented performer (the last show of hers I went to see was almost two years ago!), so a group of us got some tickets to go see her in her most recent show, Into the Woods. It was such a great play, and she did an amazing job in her role (way to go, girl!).
2. Of course, I had to snack on two of my favorite things during the show: wine and cookies. :)
3. And actually, before the show, a few of us met up for dinner at Zen in Schenectady. Believe it or not, I think that was the first time I’d had sushi since before I was pregnant with Alex…we’re talkin’ a LONG time!
Thankfully, it was just as delicious as I remember. I wish we could get it more often but, unfortunately, I haven’t really found a place near us that has great take-out sushi. If anyone local wants to tell me otherwise, I’m all ears!
4. This kid. As of this week, he has learned how to pull himself up in his crib and it has made for some exhausting evenings. Oh mannnn, am I tired.
I have no idea if we’re going to have to wind up doing some CIO like we did with Lucas, but Alex also has a cold this week so I’m hoping that he’s just off from that. We’ll see where we’re at once he’s back to being 100% and re-evaluate. But I’ll tell you that rocking a 23.5lb baby multiple times in the middle of the night is NOT something I can sustain for much longer…WHEW!
5. Oh, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! In honor of today’s holiday, I made a batch of these delicious treats for Lucas to bring to daycare today, and we went out earlier this week before the crazy storm hit to indulge in a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake.
Our group of friends started texting pics a couple of weeks ago (just like we’ve been doing every year!) so I had to make sure we were in on the action. Lucas and I shared the chocolate mint one and it is SOOO freakin good!
Alex wanted in on it, too…not yet, bud.
6. Do you guys remember a couple of weeks ago when I shared that we had tried Not Your Father’s Root Beer? Well shortly after, the company reached out to tell me about three brand NEW beverages with a fun spin on the name…Not Your Mom’s!
The three new flavors (all available now!) are Apple Pie, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Iced Tea. I’m currently sipping on the iced tea as I type up this post on Thursday evening. It’s SO GOOD! I can absolutely see it being a perfect summertime staple. Oh, and if you hurry, you can probably check out the videos I posted last night on Instagram Stories with them all, too!
7. We have a new project happening in the Horan house…barn doors for our basement!
Jay started them over the weekend and both of them are now built, so it’s just a matter of staining them and getting them up. I can’t wait to show you guys once they’re all done!
8. For my fellow parents out there, read this post. I loved it, and I’m sure that many (if not all) of you will be able to relate on some level. This can be a tough season, for sure, but it’s all worth it (and it helps to know we aren’t alone!).
9. I was SO excited to get my new Beautycounter order in the mail the other day!!
I got quite a few new items and I’ve been loving them already (no, I’m not selling these products, but I do think they seem to be amazing and I’m excited to continue using them to see how well they work!).
10. Alright, I am exhausted. Time for me to hit the hay!
I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend ahead, whatever you may be doing! <3

What a fun girls’ night! I love going to theater type things. I always went on dates with my mom to the ballet growing up and it was so much fun to get all dressed up and do something fancy. We still go together occasionally!

Those drinks look amazing. I love the not your father’s root beer, so I can only imagine how good the other flavors are, too. I have not had a shamrock shake yet this year but I think I have to go get one before the end of the day today! Have a great weekend (:

Hi! Long time reader, but rare commenter! I was wondering if you could go through all the logistics of your pumping routine and daily schedule. I’m headed back to work in two weeks and I’m not sure about this whole pumping thing. I leave for work at 6 and I don’t get back until 4, so it will be an early morning start for me. I’m trying to decide if I should try and feed her at 5ish or pump in the morning and just let her get a bottle when she wakes up around 730? Anyway, I’d love to hear more about your routine.
Courtney says
Hey Katelyn! Right now, I nurse Alex when he wakes around 7am, pump twice at work, occasionally nurse him one last time around 5 depending on when he had his last bottle at daycare, and then he gets a bottle of formula at bedtime. I pump once before going to bed too :)
I really think it’s totally up to you on how you want to do things! I have no doubt that, within a week or two, you’ll find your groove :)
Best of luck with heading back to work, mama!

Oh my gosh Alex in that hat is too much! I have been wanting to try Not Your Father’s Root Beer. Eagerly awaiting June when I’m not pregnant and can enjoy some alcohol ;) With two kids I may be enjoying a little too much, ha! Have a great weekend!

Your mom looks so happy watching Alex :) and those drinks sound amazing!!

Courtney, I hadn’t seen that Scary Mommy article. THANK YOU for sharing. Soooo true. (I’m a working Mom like you — for now. I’m 19 weeks pregnant with #2 and not sure what life is going to bring when this one is born. But this article still hits so close to home.) I appreciate your real-life approach and how you share some of both the highs and lows of life on your blog.
Courtney says
You’re very welcome! Best of luck to you on baby #2 on the way! :)

CIO do it! I did it with my boy twin my girl slept through on her own. It works, it took three nights but they sleep 7 till 645 am. Literally best thing ever…so hard but worth it.
Courtney says
Oh yes! We did it with Lucas and it was definitely a HUGE help!

wine, sushi and cookies? sounds like a perfect night! WHAT that beer sounds so friggin’ cool- I’m not a beer gal, but my friend is a beer fiend!
Ashley @ Sweet Carolina Belle says
How was the strawberry rhubarb flavor? It sounds so interesting!
Courtney says
It was very interesting! I’m not sure what to describe it as?! We thought it might be good mixed with something but never figured out what, haha ;)

Tell me more about beauty counter! I’ve been staring at the products in the skincare aisle. I need to start using…something. No idea what, but I’m 33 😊 And if I don’t moisturize in the am…eeek. Eye cream maybe? Help!!
Your kidddos are adorable. Alex seems like such a happy baby! Love those cheeks.
Enjoy your weekend! Weekends are my favorite, they’re like pizza. Even a so-so one is still pretty good 😊
Courtney says
I actually ordered through Gina (The Fitnessista) and she was super helpful! I’d definitely recommend reaching out to her – she’ll be able to help WAY more than I can lol ;)
Brynn says
Schenectady is one of my favorite words in the whole world (random but true). I love how you enjoyed the play- wine and cookies all the way!

I of course only know you thru the internet, however just from pictures I’ve seen over the years, I really think Alex looks A LOT like your dad in that pic w/the baseball cap! Which side of the family do you think he looks most like? PS your instagram story the other day of Alex trying to crawl on the slippery hardwood floor… his little legs going lightning speed but not quite moving–I was cracking up.
Courtney says
That’s so funny – you’re not the first person to say that! We still definitely get a mix of thoughts on who he looks like (but my husband is actually adopted so we only have him to go by in terms of looks!) ;)
Kaitlyn @ Powered by Sass says
I have got to get in on this Shamrock Shake business… I’m tellin’ ya. Mint chocolate is probably my favorite flavor combo. Even more than peanut butter and chocolate. Yep, I said it.

Just out of curiosity, does the Not Your Mom’s Apple Pie flavor taste anything like hard cider? (but, from what I’m assuming, an extra sweet and sugary version) I’ve been interested in trying them out for a while now, from the root beer to cream soda to iced tea… Thanks in advance for the input!
Courtney says
Yes, very much like a hard cider! A fairly sweet one, but that’s definitely what it reminded me of!

I got my first Beauty Counter order this week. Absolutely LOVING the products!

I’m a musical fanatic, so I love Into the Woods! The score- Sondheim is a genius. The Strawberry Rhubarb drink sounds goooood. I love the connections that can be made through blogging that otherwise would have been lost. o fun you got to try their products after a genuine share! As always, it just reminds me of why I love your blog- you’re authentic. :)
Have a fabulous weekend, Courtney!
