1. So I’m pretty sure I either broke my toe, or it’s just really badly bruised. And I’m convinced the nail is going to fall off. Gahh, I hope the nail doesn’t fall off! Somehow, as I was going to sit down in one of our kitchen chairs on Wednesday with Lucas on my lap, my foot slid right underneath the leg of the chair. Oh my, did it take all of me not to belt out a couple of choice words! The toe is red and swollen, the nail is all sorts of black and blue underneath, and I can’t even put on a pair of shoes without it hurting so I’m not sure how the whole workout thing is going to go. Major case of the booooo’s, especially because I was really finding a workout groove again.
2. Later this afternoon/evening, I’m going to be working on some blog updates, so if you wind up coming back to visit, you may see an “Under Construction” page. I’m planning on starting some work on my end around 4pm, and then having a developer step in to help with the rest. We should be back up and running by Saturday, but just wanted to give ya a heads up!
3. I bought a 1lb bag of rainbow sprinkles this week for only $2.99, but then spent almost double that price to have them shipped. Even still, it is WAY cheaper than buying them in the store, so I totally justified it. Plus, that means now I can make a bunch of the recipes that I’ve pinned with loads of sprinkles in them like these and these and these.
4. It’s a good thing Jay and I have co-workers who like sweets. I sent half of yesterday’s cupcakes with Jay and I brought the other half in with me to work. BUT…we do (err, rather, did) still have a little something left over. When making those cupcakes, you need to scoop out the centers of the cake, so you wind up with lots of little scoops of cake. So, as one who doesn’t like things to go to waste, I layered the cupcake leftovers in a bowl and topped them with some of the remaining Nutella frosting and chocolate ganache.
Soooo. Darn. Good.
5. You know it’s going to be a good day when a package like this arrives at your doorstep. Thanks so much, Nestlé, for sending along the delicious and adorable PEANUTS inspired Easter candy. I think our Easter baskets will be set for this year!
And, FYI, Nestlé continues to expand its commitment to sustainable cocoa and has now bought enough certified, sustainable cocoa to produce its entire Easter chocolate collection. The Easter collection is Nestlé’s next step toward its goal of making all its US produced chocolate products from sustainable cocoa. Pretty sweet, right?
6. Speaking of sweet treats, be sure to check out my post on My Daily Bubble, featuring 6 Fun and Festive Easter Desserts!
7. I came across a photo of this dress on Pinterest, and I MUST find out where it’s from. I want it. Badly.
8. Earlier this week, I got an awesome package in the mail from my friends at Love Grown Foods. Did you guys hear that they now have new Mighty Flakes, which are made with beans but totally don’t taste like beans??
They’re so sweet over there…thanks for sending the extra LOVE, LGF!
9. I’ve been spending a lot more time on Pinterest lately, and have been pinning all sorts of ideas for future homes. I pinned these photos of office ideas and am absolutely loving the look of both of them.
10. I know it’s only the end of March, but I’ve been thinking ahead to spring and summer (wishful thinking?) and the fact that I’ll eventually be able to trade all of the heavy sweaters and scarves for tanks, sundresses, and shorts. Ahh…shorts are one thing I struggle with every. year. because I can never seem to find ones that are the right length (you know…they’re either bermudas to my knees or riding up my butt cheeks). I am kinda liking the looks of these and these, though. Do any of you have any recommendations for shorts you love?
Alright friends, I’m off for today! I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend ahead. Hopefully things will be back up and running on the blog so I can check in with a weekly meal plan on Sunday!
Annie says
Oh my… How long did it take you to eat the leftover cake? That bowl looks REALLY dangerous! I’m sure I could eat it all in one go haha
Renee @ Fit For Motherhood says
Those cupcakes look amazing. And that dress is adorable. If/when you find out please let us know. I love it too!! I’m sorry about your toe that is awful.
Christen says
thanks for posting on the sprinkles! I’m in need of some for a recipe for this weekend!
Lindsay says
Isn’t it a shame that at the end of March we have to be “thinking ahead” to Spring? In many parts of the country Spring has already sprung! I get texts from my family that they’re expecting 80 degree days and I can’t even hang up my jacket for the season yet! Loving that dress though!
Marielle says
I’ve pinned that exact same dress from Pinterest and I can’t find where it’s from either, grr! Hope your toe gets better, that’s no fun! :(
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
Oh my gosh I need that chevron dress!
soleil says
chevron dress is dvf ( summer last year) blog with love from kat.
Ashley p. says
american eagle “midis” are by far my most favorite shorts ever. They are super comfy and he perfect length. Def check them out!!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Definitely wishful thinking–we are getting flurries as I type! And maybe for the best–in case your toe is broken… which I obviously hope that it isn’t. Either way, tape up and ice that sucker. Give it a cupcake or piece of that trifle #icanteven. I wish Pinterest would just come and redo my life. That would be lovely and way easier, yes?
Good luck with the toe, and happy Friday!
Brynn says
i love that you bought a one pound bag of sprinkles!! Best of luck with the website and I hope your toe feels better. That’s such a bummer.
Pamela says
Check out Ann Taylor Loft shorts – longer than booty shorts and currently 40% off! They’re long enough to wear with cute wedges too :)
Danielle @ Little Mama Big Life says
That dress is so cute! Definitely let us know if you find out where it’s from or something similar! Totally digging those cupcakes and that trifle! Have a great weekend!
Sarah says
I really like shorts from Old Navy. I feel like they show just enough leg yet are appropriate to wear and not feel like you’re back in high school. Last year they also came in lots of fun colors and the material is comfy.
Old Navy is one of those stores that doesn’t flatter all body types though, but worth a shot if you haven’t checked them out yet :)
Oh and best part — they won’t break the bank.
Kate Vaughn says
Ann Taylor LOFT has some great shorts and a million styles of them!! And everything is 40% off today so I would jump on that ;) the 4 inch inseam ones are my fav! The perfect length!
haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine says
wowow! buying those sprinkles!! I usually spend an arm and a leg buying sprinkles at the grocery store. that’s such a good deal!
genius cupcake trifle idea. i want it!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
such a great post today! (minus the whole broken toe thing) sprinkles on everything YES! can’t wait to get my hands on those mighty flakes and i love that dress with the gold jewelry and purse!
Stacey M. says
I completely understand how you feel when it comes to finding a decent pair of shorts. I used to get mine from Old Navy, but I feel like the denim ones always make my rear-end look larger than normal and the fabric (cotton) ones fit great when I first put them on but get WAY too stretched out within an hour or so. Sorry Old Navy, but I’m not really into wearing bloomers!
Lately, I’ve been shopping at American Eagle for my jeans and shorts. I find they fit much better than Old Navy’s, and both their denim and fabric shorts are decent. I’ve got a couple pairs from last year, and just ordered a couple more for this summer. I stick with the “Midis” since they have a longer inseam (but aren’t bermudas by any means). Maybe you could give those a try. LOFT also has nice shorts, but I find those fit me weird sometimes too (waist too tight, but leg openings too large). I’d be interested to know if you end up finding some you like!
Bri says
I broke my toe about 6 weeks ago on my birthday of all days. It was awful painfully for a long time and is just now to the point where I think I can run on it again. The worst injury by far! Hope yours heals up faster!! Also, I’ve got some shorts from Athleta that fit perfectly,, not too short and nice and light. Check them out if you can! Cute shorts should def counteract your bum toe :)
Abbie says
Loft! and the Joe Fresh collection at JC Penney have some cuffed ones that I got a yr or 2 ago. They’re really cute and a little on the dressier side.
Erin M. says
I found some really comfortable and appropriate length shorts at old navy a couple years ago…I think they called them the perfect pair or something like that.
Allison says
Check out j crew factory store. They had cute ones there yesterday that seemed long enough
Katelyn R Runyan-Gless says
Girl, I am axing those jean shorts. Way too mom :) I did some some cute, longer ones at Zara that might work! The white ones look super cute and they seem “dressy”. I currently live in Dhaka and we don’t have a lot of ready made clothes stores– what we do is buy sets of fabric and get it tailored (stitched, is what we say). However, the tailors can replicate ANYTHING. So, basically you can bring in any pattern and they’ll make it. The only problem is that you can’t wear it out of the house! Here’s what we wear in Bangladesh if you’re curious: http://oo.com.bd/images/P/7-13.jpg
It’s called salwar khameez in most of the sub continent.
Liv @ Healthy Liv says
That dress you found on Pinterest is so cute! I love your cupcake trifle :)
Kate says
I like shorts from LOFT. They’re comfortable, and made for grownups. Not up your crack, and not down to your knees! They have a few different styles and a few different materials, too.
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
That box of candy would be so dangerous for me right now! I absolutely love Easter candy.
I have the same issue with shorts. The best I’ve found recently were Lauren Conrad brand from Kohl’s. They were really modest in length without being actual bermuda shorts.
Monica says
Here is the original post for that dress, but it looks like it is sold out/last year’s.

Catherine Cormier says
Oh no – that happened to my toe before and the nail had to fall off twice before growing back normal so hopefully yours is just badly bruised and won’t fall off.
A few years ago I fractured my foot and was sad about not being able to work out because our wedding was coming up!! I ended up only doing arm workouts while I was recovering and it actually worked out for the best because then my arms were all toned up for the wedding :P
tiff @ love, sweat, & beers says
Oh goodness, I love that dress! If I didn’t have a bump to deal with, I’d be hunting it down too!
As for the sprinkles, if you have any extra goodies you want to send my way, I’ll send you my address… ;)

it is very impressive that you didn’t say a choice word when you banged your toe. fingers crossed that it isn’t broken!
Alanna says
jcrew 4 inch chinos!! (or 5 inch if you want longer) they usually have pretty good sales at jcrew factory (or jcrew factory online). and there are so many fun colors and patterns! i like loft too, but they sometimes seem a little too..baggy?

on sale for 22.50 now!

I purchased chino shorts from Banana Republic last year and absolutely love them. They are the perfect length!!
http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=94275&vid=1&pid=187081012
Also love J.Crew Chino shorts – 4 inch (3 inch is too short for me) but those didn’t fit quite as well as the BR ones.
Shopping for anything pants/shorts related is the worst. Why can’t they just… I don’t know… fit well? And be affordable?
Kayla says
I have the same problem with shorts. I’m 5’4″ with thick (runner’s) thighs and a big butt. I’ve always been self conscious, and almost always chose skirts over shorts. But the last few years, as I’ve toned up a bit, I’ve found shorts that work and last year, I had the best luck at Kohls. I got a pair of Dockers and a pair of Sonoma shorts; nice twill-like (think khaki pants) material, good length.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Oh man, so sorry about your toe!! That sounds painful. :( I hope your toenail stays put!
I’ve found some luck with shorts at Loft, Kohls, and Old Navy. That “in between” length seems to be more in style now, so they’re easier to find – thank goodness!
Stephanie @ Sparkles and Sweat says
i bought two pairs of shorts from old navy for the spring/summer. i think they’re called ‘pixie’ and they have a 3.5 inseam, so they’re not inappropriately short….plus they’re super cheap and come in fun colors. :)
Anna says
You really have to be careful with a broken toe. I broke my pinky toe in December of 2013 by stubbing it very hard on the leg of a table. The entire toe was bruised and I could barely walk on it. I borrowed a walking shoe from a friend that took the pressure off of it and used that for 2 weeks. After that the only regular shoes I could wear were Danskos. Rest is the most important thing, so try to stay off your feet as much as possible. It takes a good 6 weeks for bones to heal, even more if you keep working out. The craziest part was how even a month after I was back to feeling fine and working out, my toe would still swell up. Depending on which toe it is, try making a split and taping it to the next toe. Along with rest (and Aleve!) that’s really the only thing that can help.
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
I hear you about the shorts! I really like J Crew. They are not super long but just short enough. Have a great weekend and hope your toe heals quickly!
Ashley @ Sweet Carolina Belle says
Hope your injury heals quickly. I have lost a few toenails in my day and it is not fun!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Happy Friday, Court! I’m excited to see the blog updates. And I love that dress too. And you got some great deliveries this week! :)
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
Try J Crew Factory for shorts! https://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/shorts.jsp
I have an embarrassing amount of shorts from them and I love them. They also have various lengths to choose from so you won’t get stuck with some booty shorts. ;) Plus, you can almost always catch a sale there – it’s dangerous!
Caitlin says
OMFG I love that dress! I actually have one super similar from Kohl’s!
Very resourceful use of leftover cupcake :)
I often get suckered into a good deal only to have it “cancelled out” by paying shipping but I look at that as justifying the shipping in the first place!
Kristen says
Hi Courtney! Long time reader, never comment (why?! idk?! haha)! I did some detective work and tracked down the dress! Here’s the link I found…hope it’s what you’re looking for! Have a great weekend and ice that toe! http://wheretoget.it/link/878204

I injured my finger in the car door a couple of years ago. The nail turned black and I lost most of it. There was a tiny bit of nail when it healed and it eventually grew totally back to normal!
Michelle says
Try shorts from Anne Taylor Loft or Old Navy. They both have different lengths to pick from.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
I just hope we get the weather here soon for lighter clothing, still so cold! LOVE the dress!!! Hope your toe is ok!
Lisa says
It’s so hard for me to find appropriate shorts as I am 5’9″. I love the J Crew 5″ shorts. Every year they come out with a different version but they are all similar and I have several pair in different colors. Well made and classic. They make a 3″ also but the 5″ are really as short as I can go.
Ashley says
Check out the loft, I just rediscovered how much I love there shorts and they always run a 40 percent off everything in the store every few weeks.i think it’s still going on now. I’m 5’6 and 145 pounds and buy the 4 inch Rivera short. I usually wear a size 4 at the gap but I’m a 2 at loft which makes me feel skinny lol. They are the perfect length and I don’t feel like a frumpy mommy but I also don’t feel like I look like I’m shopping in my daughters closet.
Kelly says
I got a pair of LC Lauren Conrad jean shorts from Kohls last year, and I love them. They’re a great not-too-revealing length, and I like that the jean material has a hint of stretch to them. I can’t wait to wear them again soon…hopefully!
Molly says
I have the same issue with shorts as I am pretty tall. I have been loving the 6″ chino shorts from either JCrew or Loft. Super comfortable and can be either dressed up or down.
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
I am OBSESSED with rainbow sprinkles. I put them on ice cream, cupcakes, and such…but also randomly in plain old yogurts to brighten up ordinary days!
Angela Han says
Sorry if this is kind of a dumb question but do you randomly have companies like Nestle and Love Grown Foods send you free foods via packages all the time? Why?
Courtney says
Not a dumb question! :) Sometimes companies will contact me asking if I want to try out their products (like Nestle did). With Love Grown Foods, I’m actually an ambassador of theirs, so they tend to send me stuff pretty frequently. :)
lilly says
I hear ya on the shorts!!! I’m super tall so it’s impossible for me to find any shorts/ jeans that are the right length. I’ve honestly kind of given up on shorts, so would love to hear if you find anything you like. In the past, I bought jcrew shorts be you can order them in virtually any length (often the store only carries 2 length, but they can order the length you want)…. however, I don’t thing their shorts are very flattering in the behind area. Oh well, good luck!
Katie says
Do you have an Amish Market by you? They have the best prices on bulk sprinkles (and spices!). So, I haven’t tried them personally but I remember seeing Lands End has a lot of length options for shorts, and I think you can either buy at Sears or online then return at Sears if they don’t work out. Solid colors and some cute prints too.
http://www.landsend.com/shorts101/
I hear ya on the length thing though. I feel like I’m too old to have a potential butt cheek peek!
