Fun Facts Friday {5/12}

By Courtney 17 Comments

1. Happy freakin’ Friday…what a week! What started with a little cold/post nasal drip for Lucas ended up with a last minute trip to the doctor on Wednesday afternoon, only to find out that the poor kid tested positive for strep throat. Soooo, I took the day off yesterday and the two of us had a special little mommy + Lucas day at home.

IMG_1087

Thankfully, the meds seemed to start kicking in pretty quick, so he was back to his spunky, sassy little self in no time. Now if we could just get rid of the boogers…

2. One major bummer on Lucas’s strep was that I wasn’t able to go and visit Brian & Mal’s new baby girl, Emilia Rose! She was born on Tuesday evening, and my gosh, is she precious. I just cannot WAIT to get my hands on her!!

3. This article is everything. As a mom to a toddler who quite often experiences the same frustrations and emotions that I can relate to, it was an incredible reminder that they, too, have the right to experience these feelings. A much needed different perspective for sure. Can anyone else relate?

4. You guys want in on my latest snack obsession? Fage 2% greek yogurt mixed with ~1/2 tablespoon of chocolate pudding mix + strawberries.

IMG_1060

Protein packed (thanks to that incredibly delicious 2% yogurt!) and just sweet enough for it to taste like dessert. Ob-sessed.

5. Soooo, on top of Lucas being sick this week, we’ve also had a few early morning wake up calls from a little mister who’s stilllll dealing with some teething (and who also turned 11 months on Wednesday..GAHH!). Either that, or he just misses us so much that he needs to get up at 5:30am to see us.

IMG_1072

And, subsequently, winds up taking a boob snooze by 7am. Ohhhh, this kid. But seriously…that right there absolutely makes up for the early wake up. Those snuggles will not be forever. <3

6. Plus, I mean, there’s always coffee to help me power through the day.

IMG_1073

Good. To. Go.

7. Many of my incredible, loyal readers out there already know about my own personal struggles with Hypothalamic Ammennorhea a few years back. It was a very difficult phase of my life, but also probably one of the most eye opening, and also an experience that I’ve become quite thankful for in the long run. Without going through that and learning how to treat my body right, who knows where I’d be today? It’s a subject that I feel incredibly passionate about and, for that reason, I absolutely wanted to share Ashley’s new ebook, Fit & Fertile, for any of you out there who may be going through (or know someone going through) the same thing.

I get many emails from readers asking about HA, and one of the first things I always say is NOT to worry because you CAN get past it. It takes time, and it takes a lot of effort, and it means taking the hard road…but it is all SO worth it. Not only for those looking to become pregnant, but just because you want to keep yourself healthy! Ashley has some great information on her website that you can read before purchasing, but having already read her book myself, I can tell you that it is 100% worth the read. If you know ANYONE at all who is struggling with HA, tell them about Ashley’s book! She’s also an incredible blogger, too, FYI! <3.

8. I’m cutting this week’s fun facts short because I have an Usborne Books party about to begin and I still need to grab myself a snack before it’s party tiiiiime.

Soooo, I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend ahead, whatever you may be doing! <3

Courtney, I LOVED the article you shared in #3. I just pinned it to my Motherhood board. So often I will correct Jack for his behavior - and then turn around and do the exact same thing. I need to continue working on holding myself to the same standards (and higher!) than I do my children. I hope everyone in your house is feeling better asap! Have a great Mother's Day!

I love mixing chocolate milk powder into Greek yogurt too, just sweet enough! Also, your post on HA is so needed for me at this stage in my life. I haven't heard of it before and after months of tests, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and everything g else (that I've yet to share publicly on my blog but am talking about more openly) they have simply told me "you just don't get a period." I'll be reading your article and the one you recommended today! Thank you for your openness.

Hi Annie! I totally get it that you haven't talked about it yet -- it took me a LONG time to open up on my blog about having HA -- in fact, I had already recovered by the time I did. But now it's OUT THERE! :) It is NOT normal to not get a period, and sometimes doctors don't have all the answers. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. Hope you have a chance to read my book and know that you are not alone! You can get through it and be healthier than ever before! :) Please reach out if you have any questions at all! Best -- Ashley

Great timing with this post. I was diagnosed with HA earlier this week and my doctor told me to quit running and gain weight..perfect for summer season :-( I've been looking for HA resources so thank you for recommending Ashley's book!

Hi Allison! I know it can be super hard when you're going through HA, because doctors aren't very helpful and you don't know what advice to trust that you find online. I hope you enjoy reading my book -- and please reach out with any questions at all! :) Good luck to you!! Best -- Ashley

Strep is definitely making the rounds up here in the Ballston Spa area, our family hasn't had it yet but we know a LOT of kids who have. My youngest was up all Wednesday night with the stomach bug and then kept waking up last night with night terrors...aCk! I told them we're going to sleep ALL WEEKEND (i can dream, right?). Hope everyone feels better soon!

Oh my goodness! Poor babe! I hope Lucas feels better! My nephews just had runny noses this past week and I think I caught it since they are always in my face (which I love, but I should have expected to get it too!). Hope you guys have a great weekend and everyone is all better soon! Xoxo

Hi Courtney! First of all -- ohhh the joys of motherhood! I can't wait to experience so much of it, but then am also quite terrified too! I hope your babies are both okay this weekend. Strep is awful for anyone, so I'm sure it's enough tougher for a little guy like Lucas. Also, I cannot thank you enough for this SUPER SWEET shout-out about my book. You and I know how alone people feel when they face HA -- particularly in the fitness industry -- and everything we can do to get our stories out there is so helpful. You're the best! And you're kind words have made my day, lady!! Hope the book party goes well! :)

My daughter is a few days younger than Alex and has also been into 5:30 am wake Up's lately. Maybe it's some kind of 10.5-11 month sleep regression? Ugh!

My 13 month old thinks 5 is a good awake up time. Plus a semi-regular 3 am wake up. Do kiddos ever sleep through the night?

Thanks so much for sharing your story. It's just like our pet, it wakes up just to see us.
