Fun Facts Friday {5/8}

By Courtney 29 Comments

1. Since Jay and I totally dropped the ball on Cinco de Mayo this year, we made up for it on Wednesday night with some takeout Chipotle. You can never go wrong with a chicken fajita burrito bowl with lots of guac.

chipotle

And beer.

2. It’s been SO extremely beautiful this week…I swear, it almost makes up for the horrific winter we had. And maybe I’m weird, but one thing I absolutely love after being in a cool building all day, is getting in the warm car and waiting a few minutes before rolling the windows down or turning on the AC. There’s just something about that warm, cozy feeling (you know, until you start sweating) that is just so…comforting? Not quite sure what it is, but it’s my favorite.

3. I had a conference call yesterday with a couple of people from over in the UK, and I always get so thrown off by seeing the differences in the way dates and times are displayed.

IMG_1700

There has been more than one occasion where I didn’t realize I was reading something international and totally got the date wrong. Whoops.

4. Are any of you guys out there electronic toothbrush peeps? The folks at Oral-B were nice enough to send me this sweet Oral-B PRO SmartSeries 5000 Electric Toothbrush with Bluetooth Connectivity. Yes, you read that right…they make toothbrushes with bluetooth connectivity now. Who knew?!

Oral-B Pro 5000

I guess with the rise in smart devices that allow us all to track and improve our health, it only makes sense to have toothbrushes do the same thing right? Way to go, Oral-B! Since it is almost Mother’s Day and all, I’m considering this a little treat for myself (especially since I said no gifts needed this year…we’ve got a new house on the horizon), and I’m sure it’d be a cool gift for the other moms out there. Because, really, who doesn’t love fresh pearly whites??

Oral-B Pro 5000Oral-B Pro 5000

If you’re interested, Oral-B is also offering $20- and $30-off coupons on their elite models of electric toothbrushes (available now through 7/4). Thanks again, Oral-B!

5. As usual, a little inspiration for your Friday…

IMG_1703

Amen to THAT.

6. My hands were so puffy the other day after being out in the heat for a bit, I could barely get any of my rings off. And also worth noting, I have a perma-indent on my wedding ring finger which I find rather amusing.

IMG_1702

And also worth noting #2…I’m still loving the Sally Hansen polish. That polish job pictured above is a week old, with quite a bit of dishwashing, too. I’m totally impressed with the stuff!

7. Today is breakfast club at work and my “team” was up to bring something in. I actually forgot about it until last minute, but thank goodness I had all of the ingredients I needed to make a loaf of my Cinnamon Chip Studded Snickerdoodle Bread. Totally counts as a breakfast food!

8. The house continues to come along…we thought the framing might start this week, but it’s actually set to start on Monday. As of right now, the foundation is completely backfilled and they have in a rough driveway and sidewalk (crushed stone). It’s still so surreal to drive by and be like, woah, I’m gonna be living there?!

IMG_1709

9. This guy has just been so fun lately. Talk about keeping us entertained!

IMG_1707

I feel a bit bad for Jay though, because he seems to be going through another little stage where he’s all about mommy. Poor daddy…I’m sure pretty soon it’ll be the two of them against me, but for now I’ll take the extra attention. Winking smile

10. Okay so, umm, do any of you guys have any good packing tips? I feel like I’m fine with packing up the things we don’t use everyday (or most often) but what happens as we get closer to the date? There are so many things that I look at and think, “I can’t pack that up until right before we leave!” So since I know that’s really not an option…help! Any advice?!

11. I’ve got a winner for the Sears gift card giveaway! Thanks to everyone who entered…the lucky winner is: Alyssa!

Alyssa says May 5, 2015 at 10:06 am I would love to buy myself some new shoes/sandals… since having my son almost two years ago most of my shoes don’t fit anymore :(

Congrats, Alyssa! Now let’s get you some shoes…shoot me an email at sweettoothcourtney at gmail dot com so I can get you your gift card!

Alright my friends, I’m outta here for today. I hope you guys have a fabulous Friday and an awesome weekend ahead! Get out there and do something fun!

I love getting into a warm car, especially when there is sun streaming in. So nice! So much better than getting into a freezing cold car! It took me awhile to get used to the date/time change too but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

Happy Friday! We've had those wanting mommy only phases quite a bit with our oldest and it can be so hard! It's nice to be wanted, but is so hard on Daddy. The worst one extended from the end of my second pregnancy until our first was about 2 months old, which you can imagine was not easy for anyone involved! Now if Daddy is around he's all about him, so we're happy with that for now!

Good luck with the packing thing... I packed up some extra stuff last year when we listed out house thinking I would not need them until we moved. I was wrong, but it was nothing major. There is so much stuff you think you will need or may need so you wait! I have a feeling I will just be busy packing for a week or two before I have to move. You have a tough situation because you are moving twice and need the "essentials" in boxes you can get to where you are staying. Good luck! Exciting to see the foundation in :)

I have moved several times in the past few years and feel like a professional packer at this point! I used an excel spreadsheet to keep track of what was in each box [labeled each box with the room it belonged in and a number). If you do end up packing something you need, you would know what box to look in right away.

Happy Friday!! I absolutely hate packing, so I do not envy you at all! When we moved, we packed one room at a time, beginning with the guest room and other rooms/closets we didn't use frequently. LABEL everything - even way more detailed than you think is necessary. It will be so nice when you unpack. We didn't pack hanging clothes, just carried them out on hangers, and we didn't pack things in drawers, just left them in the drawers and carried the drawers out. The wedding ring indent, yeah..I"ve totally got that too. So funny!

i always pack in phases; everything I don't use on a daily basis and then save the rest for last minute. The trick is to be super lean with what you keep out. Packing is one of my favorite things! (I know, I'm strange.)

So funny I had that conversation about the difference in dates and how you can get mixed up about half an hour ago. :D When I was little I remember we were going to visit my grandparents and I just couldn't wait and wanted to start packing days in advance. At some point my mom said "well I guess you can start packing the things you really want to take." at which point I packed up my glasses. That wasn't thought through particularly well so no packing tips from me I'm afraid. :D

I can't imagine the feeling you get when you drive by your new piece of property - that must be an extraordinary feeling! I'm so excited for you! And I definitely feel ya on the rings being too tight in the heat thing ... I find mine get tighter when I'm outside for my lunchtime walk at work or even just in the sun in general. It's not a comfortable feeling and just makes me want to take them off altogether! Have a great weekend Courtney!

I'm definitely terrible at packing. I end up waiting until the last minute for everything because I know I wil need it! Good luck with it :) Love that the house is coming along! When do you have to be out of yours? Did you figure out where you're staying yet?

The best advice for packing is to use different colors of packing tape or duct tape on top of the box. We put green, yellow and red tape on all of our boxes so the movers knew that everything with green tape went upstairs, yellow tape went to the main level and red went downstairs. Then they didn't have to search the box for "kitchen" "bedroom" etc. or ask me for help. It moved it much much faster.

I also think labeling the boxes with very specific information about what is in it is great advice. I also bought paper plates, cups, and plastic silverware as we got closer to the move date so that I could pack up dishes, glasses, silverware, etc. I kept a box with clorox wipes, paper towels, extra tape, garbage bags and a dust pan open in the kitchen during packing to have it close on hand. Although an extra expense, I found it to be totally worth it to hire a cleaning service for when you move out but before the walk through of the closing. One less thing to worry about. I am local, so if you would like a cleaning service recommendation just ask! Good luck!

TOTALLY agree about 1. leaving a box of essentials on the floors and 2. hiring a cleaning service. I recently moved out of an apartment i'd lived in with a roomie and it was really tough. but the paper plates thing and having tape/ sharpie nearby at all times helped.

I do the same thing in my car! After being in the air conditioning at work, and especially after I eat lunch out (which I do just once a week) in a cold restaurant (why are they always so chilly?), nothing feels better than locking myself in a hot car. Good to know we aren't alone!

I've moved a lot from apartment to apartment in San Francisco and across the country in the past few years. It's just not easy. I got rid of as much as possible by donating it to Goodwill and selling it on Craigslist. It's nice to get a fresh start in a new place, so sell as much as you can and buy new! :) Happy Friday!

I love my electric toothbrush--it's the bomb! I agree with you with the packing thing....we close in like 3 weeks so I've gots to get a move on, and I just can't even begin because we need SO much before hahaha. Kids make things way harder with packing.....good luck is my only tip I guess, sorry! :/

We packed for building and i also had a tough time with it. What we ended up doing was packing most of our stuff up and leaving very minimal unpacked for last minute and to use while in an apartment waiting for our house to be done. I tried to label all boxes with everything in there just in case we decided we couldn't live without something. We also moved our boxes ourselves (let movers move the heavy stuff and furniture), that way we could store them with some sort of organization in case we went looking for something. Our family wan't too far away from our apartment so we knew we could always borrow stuff from them if were in a bind. Oh and clothing wardrobes are the best invention ever for packing clothes! you can totally stuff the bottoms with shoes, blankets, whatever and stuff a ton of hang-ups in them. If you have home depot there they sell them. Some storage or u-haul retailers sell them too.

I definitely do the warm-car thing, too! Sometimes restaurants/stores are just a little too air-conditioned :) Good luck with packing! I have to pack up a dorm room in a few weeks and am dreading it a little... I can't imagine having to pack a whole house. Have a wonderful weekend :)

Yes to #2!! I'm with you! ;) Exciting about your house! It really is amazing how quickly it all goes. As for packing, we did everything we could that we wouldn't be using first (like you said), then we got RID of a ton of stuff which felt awesome, and then just plowed through the rest of the stuff in a weekend right before we officially moved. You'd be surprised at how little you actually need those last several weeks!

I'm British and when I lived in America for a couple years, I always got the date wrong!! Then when I moved back home, I started writing it the other way! My dad still lives in the States and I think he forgets about the time difference because he'll always call me in the middle of the night!!

I'm the same way about warm cars! I actually like to go out to my car in the middle of the work day and soak up the warmness. I don't have any last minute packing tips but I will say the last thing that should go in your car and the most accessible thing should be your box of cleaning supplies and your paper plates, cups, plastic-wear, paper towels, and TOILET PAPER! Also a case of water bottles for you and anyone moving you. My Mom always says the first thing to do when you move is make the beds so you have somewhere to collapse.

In terms of packing I would make sure I did a box or so a day leading up. So I'd go in the kitchen and pack up everything but the bare essentials. Extra dishes, serving ware, appliances that I could get on without.. you get the point. I would only MAKE myself do one, so that I could use that as motivation and leverage, but I usually got more done once I got in the groove!
