1. What do you do after spending 2-1/2 hours walking through your new home and are starving? You hit up Five Guys for a celebratory burger and fries, that’s what!
2. As for the walk thru? It went awesome! We walked the entire house, inside and out, checking for any minor issues like paint, chips, or anything else. We created a punchlist, and the builder will work on getting that completed by Monday. Then, we have our final final walk thru on Tuesday, hopefully (knock on wood!!) with a closing shortly thereafter. Eeeek!
We didn’t wind up taking any new pictures of the house yet, but we did take all the measurements for the windows and also narrowed down our paint selections a bit more…
After the recommendations from reader, Sarah, we basically have it narrowed down to one swatch, considering both the top and middle colors.
I’m liking both of them in the kitchen so far, so I think we’re going to purchase sample cans of both and paint some larger areas to get a better feel for them. And no, I wasn’t purposely trying to flip Jay the bird in these photos, which he pointed out. Whooops.
3. After grabbing our lunch yesterday afternoon, we made our way back to the tile place (for the locals, Albany Marble – they are FABULOUS!) aaaaaand…we bought a backsplash. Wooo Hooo, I convinced him! Our plan is to do a 3 inch wide section of this along the bottom…
followed by a pencil tile trim and the same white handcrafted subway tile that I showed you guys a couple of weeks ago. I’m SO excited about it!!
4. Earlier this week, I picked up these panels on sale at Target for our office. I’m thinking that I may want to add some pops of blue in that room, so we’ll see how they look once they’re up there! I also spent some time checking out some of their rugs (also on sale), and there are a few that I seriously have my eye on…but I’m holding off for now.
Plus, I’m so bad at mixing patterns. Does it work? I have no clue.
And as if Target didn’t already have enough that I wanted to buy…I then spotted these accent tables. I feel like I neeeeed them for our living room!! #outofcontrol
5. I had a rare opportunity to be able to actually just sit and watch Lucas play with his daddy and Uncle D, and it was just the greatest. Considering the fact that Lucas is probably 98% alllll about mom, all day every day, I love when he spends some extra time with Jay. I just love watching them play.
6. I came across this quote on my desk calendar earlier in the week, and it just so happened to have really, really good timing.
Such a good reminder, right?
7. Last night I ate cereal for dinner and it was everything I could have wished for.
Sometimes it just hits the spot, you know?
8. Yesterday afternoon was a productive one, indeed. After hitting up the tile place, we headed down the road to Mooradians to check out their couch selections. We actually came across a set that we really, really like, which is also customizable to where you can pick your own fabrics and everything.
We still want to look around a bit more to make sure we don’t rush into this purchase, but we’re definitely considering them. They had so many different fabric selections that we loved! Here is a sampling of some of our favorites for accent pillows against a light grey sofa…
If we do decide to go this route, how I’ll ever actually decide on the fabrics is beyond me. But it’s still fun to look.
9. You’d really think our money tree is just dropping leaves like it’s hot with all of this purchasing…but it’s really not. If you need us for the next year or two, you’ll likely find us at home eating PB&J sandwiches.
I kid…sort of.
10. I really should even call this post a fun facts post, because it’s basically a run down of our Thursday, but I’m too lazy to come up with a new title, so fun facts it is. Plus, I need to wrap this up so I can try to go give myself a mini pedicure or do something with these feet. Yikes…
Happy FRIDAY my friends! I hope you have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend, whatever you may be doing!

Absolutely loving all of the house updates! So much progress, it looks beautiful! I think that if you think something works, go for it. Don’t worry about rules. Make your home yours :)

I love that fabric for the pillow with the white background and the blue flowers!!!!! LOVE!!!

Haha, even if this is just random facts, I always like these Friday posts the best!
Your new house/decorating is so exciting! I’m no expert, but I don’t think I would pair that specific curtain with that blue rug in the same room. Now, if they were in neighboring areas, I think it’d be okay, but personally would do the rug then solid curtains or a deep blue hue and the patterned curtains.
Love the backsplash. So envious, since we don’t have one.
Burgers and cereal dinners = ? heck yeah!
What brand/style of appliances did you pick?

I have that blue Target rug (third from the left in your picture) and I absolutely love it! I had it in my living room for a while but then I moved it to my dining room when I got a new rug, and it’s just held up so well. I get so many compliments on it! I thought about getting the grey one in the same pattern but I’m so glad I went with the blue, it just pops so much more.

Ugh, I typed up this comment before I read the rest of the post — I say GO for the pattern mixing! Like I said, I have that same blue rug and we also have a blue/white curtains that have a different pattern and it looks so good.

I am loving that swatch of the blue flower stencil on the cream background for couch pillows! Gorgeous!

My living room rug is from Target, and I LOVE it. However, I learned the hard way I should have bought throw pillows to match it right when it came out, because almost a year later, I am *still* looking for ivory throw pillows with the right color red to match (the rug is an orangey red that’s pretty hard to find). So I’d say when you grab the rug, check and see if you can find throws right there to match! ;)

so much fun house stuff! gahh i don’t know how people ever decide on any home decorations with all the options out there. i live in a NYC apartment (’nuff said) and only have to worry about what my bedroom looks like, and only this week (for the first time in 3 years) did i finally get curtain panels that match my duvet. and i was actually proud of that lol. good luck picking everything out! and i love love love CS Lewis. i’ve read a few of his books (besides the Narnia Chronicles, of which i’ve read all) — he’s so awesome.

It’s so exciting to see everything coming together! I love your countertops and backsplash. And cereal for dinner is just what you need sometimes :) In fact, I’m thinking something like that sounds pretty perfect for tonight. Have a wonderful weekend!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
I actually watch a lot of home-improvement shows and happen to be in love with the right backsplashes. It can totally make or break a kitchen! Great choice, Courtney! Enjoy your weekend! :)

I love all the updates and pics about the house and decorating. I like the accent tables but I think you need to pick out your couch/rugs/pillows first before you get the tables. If you are leaning toward a grey couch, do you want brown tables with it? I always buy accessories first and then I am like oh man…these don’t really match the big stuff. I can’t wait to see the final pictures of the house when you are in there, it’s so exciting.
Have a great weekend. Happy shopping….

I’m so bad at picking out colors for paint/fabrics/tiles. I just can’t seem to imagine the finished room from small swatches.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Ooooo Five Guys … good choice! That’s one of our favorites for burgers.
All that house stuff can be overwhelming, but it sure is fun to start “fresh” so to speak. So excited for you guys!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
I love that quote (and the Narnia books). I can’t wait to have a house to decorate one day, it seems so exciting to have a blank slate that you get to paint exactly to suit your family. It’s years and years away for me I think!

I have that exact rug from Target in my living room (gray/white on far right), but I bought it at Kohls’ for cheaper (on sale/coupon). But, it’s the EXACT rug. I also got matching throw pillow at Kohl’s for the couch and I’m kinda wishing they didn’t match, now….lol. I say MIX.ALL.THE.PATTERNS! And I’m with everyone else – love the cream fabric/blue flowers – DEFINITELY! Have fun with everything – so exciting!

Shopping for decor for a new home is just the best! I am sure everything will come together perfectly!

Courtney,
I have been clicking around on your blog reading your HA posts and I just want to say you are awesome! I am struggling with HA right now and your posts and the resources you point to have been tremendously helpful. I am still in the very early stages of recovery. It’s hard, but reading other people’s stories makes it less lonely and scary. So, THANK YOU for sharing and being so open on your blog.
As I have questions along the way with recovery, can I email you?

I have that rug from target! My curtains aren’t the same pattern as my rug design, but I think they look fine together….I’m horrible at decorating.
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
I’ve only had Five Guys once in my life, but my goodness, it was a wonderful experience. Also, I LOVE those accent tables! They’re stunning and I adore the color. Have a wonderful weekend Courtney!
Amy says
YES! By all means…mix patterns! I have a very neutral couch and wall colour, so it’s easy to mix patterns! Just make sure the colours go together and tie things together! Target is THE BEST place to get decor items! I think most of my home accessories come from there. Have fun :)

We just bought a home and used the same paint colors…Revere Pewter and Edgecomb Gray???? They work in every room, we love them. Good luck with everything!!
